Went here with some old friends of the family for lunch. Tucked into a strip mall, I was excited to find a new«hidden gem» but left a bit disappointed. Huge cheese lover but was almost overwhelmed with the ripe cheese smell of the place(think the strongest bleu cheese pervading the whole place) Antipasto appetizer had tasty cheeses and cured meats but also a pile of mandarin oranges dumped straight from a can, cheapening the experience. Fried calamari and eggplant, though heavy on the batter, were the highlight of our meal as they were crisp and not heavy despite the flour treatment Lentil soup is great, spiked with what I believe to be smoky chunks of pancetta, but minestrone was watery and weak. Fettuccini Alfredo was disappointing– rich and thick but lacking in flavor. The side of meatballs were delicious and moist, delicate despite their huge size. All in all I am disinclined to return.

Excellent all around. Reasonably priced and great food. Eggplant parm was delicious as was the Minestrone soup. Loved it!

Great food. I love the tomato basil soup. I had the eggplant parmesan for entrée. Most restaurants slice the eggplant thin, Sandros gives you 1″ slices perfectly cooked. Service was great, topping off our drinks regularly.

The other reviews are spot on: locals, would not expect such a nice place across from TJ Max in a strip mall, but it is nice. I also like they play Mr Sinatra and Deano and other real Italian music– good atmosphere.

FOODWASGREAT! Service… eeehhhhh I had a similar experience to Jennifer C. Re: I had a similar experience today… but we had Katherine… and i only know her name from my check, which is what she was the fastest at doing the entire visit. She was rude, complaining in the background, rolling her eyes. I’m not sure why but even though we came in before all the other tables we were definitely nowhere near her priorities or interests. The only person that really recovered the entire visit was a gentleman named«Mikey»…which he helped us more than Katherine. he was polite, and i really wish we got him instead of sour face Katherine. I’m guessing that Katherine and Mikey were the opening servers because two more came in while we were still there, looked at us several times and did nothing, even though I tried to wave them down a few times. And I’m just curious because it’s not a ginormous place and you can’t easily overlook us by accident. but seriously?! Again the food was great!!! Service was not(minus mikey). Ohh and fyi it was NOT really busy when we were there untill we were trying to leaving.

I am sitting at my table at this moment watching my boyfriend finish my entrée(I couldn’t finish the healthy portion) because everything here was so amazing. The servers are very polite and everything from the bread to the oysters to the salads to the entrees were spot on! We are staying at the hotel next door and walked over and I’m only sad I can’t take my leftovers back with us because we leave too early. Not a location I would have picked out for great Italian but we were pleasantly surprised how great it is!

Last night we had dinner for the first time at Marcello’s wine Market Café on St. Charles. The food was wonderful and the service was over the top. We live in Jefferson Parish & New Orleans crime limits our city dining. Marcello’s is a few blocks from Lee Circle. The paid parking is next door. We felt completely safe. In fact there was dining outside & we wouldn’t hesitate to eat there. Finally they allow you to choose your wine from a wide variety, sell it to you at retail, and then serve it to you with your meal.

This is a perfect date night restaurant. The food is consistently good with a good and affordable wine list. This is our«go to» for great Italian in Metairie.

The Sandro’s Trattoria awning says«You’re In Tuscany.» And when we walked in, I felt like we walked into a little European restaurant. Ah, if you like Italian food and you find yourself in Metairie, go to Sandro’s! It’s located in a typical looking strip mall. I had the meatball and mozzarella panini. It was delicious! Everything I saw looked good. The table next to us had friend eggplant sticks with a marinara dipping sauce and a glass of red wine. I wanted THAT too! Good atmosphere, good food!

Sandro’s Trattoria, in a strip shopping center, has an attractive exterior, with some outdoor seating. The interior is likewise attractive and well decorated with a «old time» Italian look. I, and one of my lunch-mates, ordered the Seafood-Stuffed Portobello Mushroom with Angel Hair Pasta and White Sauce Special(with soup or salad– we chose salad), and the third person ordered the Eggplant Parmesan with Pasta. Everything, from the service to the entrees and salads were simply delicious. We had no complaints, and we would return and recommend this place to others. RJT

What $$$ I don’t surrender at TJ Maxx, I often spend at Sandro’s. Usually do soup and house salad… for my money, their tomato basil soup trumps La Madeleine. Outside belies intimate interior. Tables are a little close, but noise factor is not a real issue. Excellent panini… large enough to comfortably share. Never been for dinner, but lunch options are diverse and yummy!

Absolutely the best Italian ever! Was completely surprised due to the location. I have been here so many times and have yet to try something I didn’t like. Whenever someone’s talks about wanting Italian food I immediately think of this place. The food is beyond fresh and the staff is extremely nice. I wouldn’t know what to do as far as Italian food if they weren’t around.

Who cares that it’s in a strip mall. I had the best veal parm I have ever eaten. The pasta was fresh and the alfredo was rich. I loved it. Best italian I have had in years. Will seek it out again next time I’m in town.

Had a good meal at Sandros tonight. We were staying at the Wyndham Hotel next to the shopping center and called them about 10 minutes before they were slated to close. They said they were happy to accommodate our party of four, and to come on over. My lentil soup and angel hair primavera with pesto sauce was quite good. My husband’s shrimp parmigiana was tasty, but not as warm as he would have preferred. Our companions enjoyed their meals as well. The service was very attentive.

Great meal. Very tasty. This restaurant is a gem among the rocks. Their angel hair pasta meals are to die for. So flexible and yet so deliciously Italian. Their waffle bread is an amazing entry to a fantastic meal.

Had a lovely lunch with my Mom here. The outward appearance of this place isn’t special as it is in a strip mall, but the food is good. I shared fried eggplant appetizer & had lasagna with a small house salad. All were good! Good service & interior atmosphere with a continuous track of classic Italian music always playing. Convenient with lots of parking. Would recommend & will return.

I stopped by here a couple of weeks ago randomly for lunch. What a find!!! I had the lunch special, salmon scampi over angel hair pasta. SOOOGOOD!!! Also had the lentil soup with my meal which was also outstanding! I was also very pleased that when I asked for parmesan they brought me a small bowl full of real parmesan as you would expect to purchase from an italian market! I will definitely be back! I can’t wait to try other items on the menu! Finally — an italian restaurant that feels and tastes authentic! Bonus — The service was great!!!

Just had a late lunch here after a lengthy search on Unilocal. The ratings and reviews were all excellent so we decided to give the place a try. I thank all of the other Unilocalers that gave this place such great reviews and ratings. I had the best New Orleans Italian meal that I’ve eaten in years. We were a party of 3 adults with 1 infant. We wanted to try a variety of food so we had: Fried Eggplant; House Salad; Spinach Salad; Minestrone Soup; Eggplant Lasagna; Fettuccine Alfredo; Grilled Shrimp; Panned Veal; Sautéed Spinach, Mushroom, and Pepper; Flan; Spumoni; Italian Cream Cake. Everything was fantastic. We all shared and tasted everything. The Panned Veal was easily the best I’ve had in recent memory. The servings were very generous and everyone left full with a box to go. We are already planning our next visit. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Usually I’d avoid anything in the same strip mall as a TJ Maxx but my grandparents insisted we try Sandro’s, and I have to say that we were very impressed. We had to wait a while for a big enough table, but it wasn’t too terrible. We got seated and had some of their tasty garlic bread. My meal came with soup or salad; I chose caesar, which was decent. Just romaine with dressing and croutons, but there was nothing offensive about it. For dinner, I had the eggplant parmesan, and it was honestly the best I’ve ever had! The eggplant was cooked perfectly — not too hard and not too mushy. Their salsa rossa(aka red sauce) is really great. It’s deep, dark red and tastes like it’s been simmered for hours and hours. My mom had the angel hair with garlic and olive oil, and it was heeeavy on the garlic — which means I loved it. Boyfriend had eggplant lasagna that was as big as a brick, and he ate every bite. All in all, this seems like a nice hidden little Metairie spot for some tasty Italian.
