That was stupid crazy good. Grilled fish and the Frieda, fully dressed. And your receipt get you to for one of the bar next-door.

The roast beef poboy with mayo, swiss and tomato. Perfection. Absolute perfection. I ordered the 11″ and the sweetums had the 6″ version with pickles instead of tomatoes. These babies were delicious. I managed to eat the entire thing. I couldn’t stop. The perfect amount of creaminess from the melted swiss and mayo, just the right amount of a light gravy dripping out and made exactly as I ordered. I appreciate a sloppy roast beef but its not as easy to eat in public. In private I don’t mind but I usually wear my food so the absorption ability of the bread was appreciated. With the restaurant being part of a bar in Jefferson Parish, I was expecting a slight odor of smoke lingering in the air. Nope. Whew. The servers are pretty and friendly. Oh and for those keeping track… yoga pants. The food came out fast but we ordered easy stuff. I cant wait to come here again. I highly highly recommend this place and their roast beef!!!

Had a roast beef poboy and my wife had the oyster(with a light fry) and both were about the best poboys we’d had. Flavor was excellent everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. The lovely young woman who worked there really saved my day by coming running out to our car to tell us that we had forgotten my bag. She was too sweet to even accept a reward. I think that Bear’s has become our #1 poboy stop when in town.

This is as good a po boy as you will find anywhere. Definitely not a tourist trap. This is where the locals go.

It’s got a really good ferdi, and the shrimp po-boy was really good from what my son says. Got the cheese fries, a ferdi, and a shrimp po-boy. I have to admit that it was as good as mandina’s, and the roast beef was on par with someplace like liuzza’s by the track. Real roast beef, stuffed with garlic and all. The waitstaff was really nice and attentive. There’s just one problem: you know the«4 P’s» of marketing?: price, product, place, and promotion. Well this is a restaurant for the 1%ers. It’s a central location, the food is good, they are off the charts on Unilocal, but you’d come out of Langenstein’s with a smaller tab. A regular size po-boy(many upwards of $ 10, are 6″ long”. The appetizers like cheese fries are $ 7.50.(At the best restaurants in town you’d be hard pressed to find that). With $ 106″ po-boys, $ 7.50 appetizers, and fountain drinks(we all know cost less than a dollar) are $ 2.75, the bill comes to about $ 46+tip=$ 50+ more like $$$ for two people. Isn’t $$ defined as $ 10-$ 15 per person? At guillory’s, a few blocks away you’d feed a table of 4. But at the same time of day, this place is empty, and guillois bustling. I guess that if I was in a hurry, I’d pick somewhere else. The main reason restaurants like this exist anyway is to get around the 3 limit video poker machine rule. With a detached restaurant you are allowed 3 more. Personally, I would have preferred cooter browns. But like the guy at bonvillian’s told me when I asked why he would repair a wash machine from 1950? His answer-«Because people buy the things…»

My daughter and I went here the other night for the first time, it was a trek for us from Algiers to Causeway, but it was worth it. We ordered the French fries with the debris gravy and cheese, OMGosh, they were delicious. We decided to split a large roast beef po-boy and unfortunately, after the fries, we were pretty much done in on roast beef, so while the sandwich was yummy, it was roast beef overload. Other places I have ordered fries with debris gravy have been covered with gravy and little bits of roast beef, not here, there were huge hulking hunks of roast beef on these fries. That made the whole experience so much more satisfying. I made the comment to my daughter we maybe should have changed our sandwich order because of how much meat were on these fries. We did eat most of our sandwich, but there was so much meat inside of it that neither of us could finish our half of a sandwich. I had a small issue with sogginess but that is a personal thing, but it did not deter from the sandwich and I avoided that part of my bread. The kiddo and I both agreed, we’d be willing to go back again, we just won’t be ordering the French fries and roast beef sandwich together again, it really was just too much meat.

The burnt tasting shrimp not worth the wait. Friendly staff! Mediocre food most of the time. Decent roast beef poboy. Try the half and half for the long wait.

Been twice for take out poboys… Not parkway or domelici’s, but a very solid joint for sure. I’m a shrimp or oyster guy unfortunately, as apparently they are known for their roast beef.

Best roast beef po-boy I’ve had in the Greater New Orleans area since I moved back home. Love Christy the hostess there! Super friendly and hospitable!

Definitely a great place for po-boys! Very convenient to Oschner Med Center. We had their signature roast beef and also a shrimp po-boy. Good bread, generous fillings and perfectly dressed. Highly recommend the roast beef! Definitely order the onion rings– hand made, cornmeal crusted, gigantic and fresh. A small order was plenty for three. The large shrimp po-boy was perfect for two women to split and came already divided into 2 baskets. Good selection of cold beers. Two big screen tv’s, but ambience otherwise pretty blah. Service was excellent. Plenty of parking across the street, under the overpass. Would definitely go back!

I had a great experience at Bear’s. The roast beef po boy was excellent and juicy! The onion rings were fried to perfection(light breading with some seasoning). Also the sauce that came with the onion rings was an excellent contrast to ketchup. Also if you take your receipt next door you get buy one, get one free beer. I will definitely go back to explore the other po boy selections and French fries combinations!

We had a roast beef poboy, fried shrimp poboy, and fries with debris and cheese. Everything was amazing, with the poboys being first class and comparable to other places I’d be overjoyed to get a poboy from and the fries being an amazing, succulent masterpiece of debauchery. Service was great, too, and the prices were more than reasonable. We’re looking forward to going back and highly suggest anyone looking for a great poboy hit this place up.

I love roast beef poboys and their roast beef is as good as any. The onion rings are good, but the hype is a little much.

I don’t know why I have not been to this place given its proximity to my office and house. What a great typical(and not typical) menu of great poboys, sides, and other options. I had a half grilled shrimp, half grilled fish poboy with lettuce and not dressed. It was perfect and fresh. Good size portion of shrimp/fish. I will certainly make this my new go to for poboys. Sweet potato fries were very good too.

Great place for poboys! I still think Bear’s in Covington has better poboys(and they are cheaper too). But, Bear’s Poboys at Gennaro’s are very good quality also. They have a bigger menu to choose from too, which is cool. I like the roast beef poboy best. My boyfriend likes the bbq beef poboy. We usually split the sweet potato fries. They have some really good sounding salads on the menu but I haven’t tried them yet. The location is very small and dark. The staff is friendly. We like to order our food ahead and get it to go. They have great hours and are even open on Sundays.

Roast beef poboy is great. The meat is thin, very flavorful and not dry. The gravy is also thin, but tasty. The menu says they use Leidenheimer’s, but it doesn’t seem like it to me. But it’s still good. They toast the inside of the bread, which is different. The only thing is that they use imitation Swiss cheese(like Kraft singles). Really?! The fries are just average and they won’t do a side order of cheese fries. I asked, because I didn’t want a large. They weren’t really busy when I walked in, maybe 6 or 7 tables occupied; however I was told it would be about 25 minutes for my food before I even ordered. I got my food in exactly 25 minutes too. I appreciate them telling me ahead of time, but still a little weird. Service is very good.

First & foremost the staff was on point! Some of the nicest people I’ve met in the service industry! Alright, who cares about service right, it’s all about the food, right? Yeah, you right. The roast beef PO boy taste was perfect, toppings were fresh and tasty, gravy was ample. The only thing that made this my second favorite poboy in the city is that the bread didn’t have enough crunch on the crust. A little crunch with a soft inside is key. We also got the onion rings which were also on point and tasty! They came with their own dipping sauce that was maybe a remoulade sauce? Either way it was good. To round out the food coma we went with a order of debris fries, which was huge and came with a couple sides of ranch. We will be back for sure. Pro tip: restaurant is behind the bar & order less than you think you’ll need.
