Good BBQ not great BBQ. Came here for some lunch and grabbed some BBQ. What better way to see what type of questions the serve up than order a ½ pound of brisket and sausage. The brisket was good. I got half lean and half wet. I would have preferred to have some bark on some of it and there was no smoke ring. By the looks of it all the BBQ is cooked in ovens and not a true pit. I ended up adding table salt to make it taste better. The sausage was not that good. Very mediocre. It’s a coarse grain and they slice it very fine. I would rate it on the scale of Eckrich sausage and not a Holmes or Chappell Hill. The side of green beans was a star. Weird how that works in a BBQ restaurant. My dining partner had a sandwich on Texas toast with brisket and sausage and Mac and cheese and green beans as his sides. He liked the mac and cheese but said overall the BBQ was a C. Ultimately, I guess we’re just spoiled with great BBQ in the city and that makes our expectations higher.

One of my favorites, Been eating here for years… The chop chop sandwich is a cross between a chopped barbecue sandwich and sloppy Joe amazing!!!

Their brisket is delicious smothered in their BBQ sauce slapped between two pieces of Texas toast with a side of pecan pie… it’s a picnic in my mouth!

I ordered a 3 meat plate, what I got was 2 slivers of meat from each category. no one said this was a weight watchers place! You get more meat on a quarter pounder than you do here, and for $ 13 plus tax! This is a first and last visit, all in one! It is lunchtime, and they have no one in line. no wonder why!

By far my favorite BBQ place. Grew up eating it every Friday night. Loved it then, love it now. My go to is the sliced brisket sandwich. Sliced chopped is my second fave. Both are very moist and flavorful. I’ve also tried the manhandled which is slice brisket and sausage on Texas toast. Delicious! And the there is the bbq fries. Similar to a BBQ baked potatoes but with fries. Sooo good. Every time I eat here, I also order a pound or so of sliced brisket to take home for later. This little treat makes my husband very happy. He wasn’t big on BBQ until I gave him Mesquite BBQ.

This place is awesome. A little pricey, but food is so good and staff is always friendly. Parking does suck if they are crowded.

Nice little local BBQ joint. Been here forever. Really juicy brisket. Good ribs. Excellent Pinto Beans & fair Green Beans. The restaurant is nice and clean. And the staff is very friendly. Moderate pricing. About the same as most any other place. But it is a local, family owned BBQ Restaurant.

Yummy in my tummy! This hole in the wall find is a gem in Mesquite! Their brisket is yummy and their sides are even tastier! The staff here is very friendly! We had a great time here!

I’ve been procrastinating this review for 2 – 3 weeks. The reason, I couldn’t quite describe it in words. The service, it was okay. The«chop-chop» beef sandwich, absolutely horrid. It is mixed with a sauce that closely resembles ketchup. To me, sauce in general is a barbecue sin. The taste of the beef was that of those dehydrated skoal can beef jerky things. I am convinced they have only been around, as long as they have, due to the French fries.

This is an icon of Mesquite. First time in our town? Try it! Go for the pulled pork sandwich! Most natives have been to Mesquite BBQ and love it. It has been around for decades and still thrives for a reason. The staff are mostly teenagers, so it didn’t always have the down home, warm welcome, or personable service it used to, but it’s still a great place to have very good food in a nice country setting. Try them out!

I just tried this place for the first time, my chopped beef sandwich was full of fat, had very little flavor and compared to soulmans was very small. I threw away half of it and I won’t be back. I feel like I wasted my money and time

Visiting from out of town, but grew up here and been here quite a bit. Disappointed — the family pack is technically more expensive than buying separate, wish I had noticed, since THEYCHARGEFORSAUCE. What? Nothing like dropping $ 70 on meat and sides and having them tell you that second side of sauce will be extra. Boo. Been renovated and the inside is nicer, but the pricing is high and misleading. Quality is okay, less than Rudy’s but passable, but no chicken.

Friendly staff. Great sausage and good brisket. The man-handler sandwich is killer, as are the loaded fries. Best BBQ I’ve found in Mesquite so far.

This was my stomping ground back in the day. You know a place is good when you leave there filled with regret as you think of the hours and hours you’ll have to put into your next workout to burn off all the deliciousness you just enjoyed.

Great brisket and decent service. Great place for a Saturday lunch with your family. The chopped beef is kind of thrown together and hardly eat able. Turkey was better than decent. If they had better side besides their great French Fry’s I would give higher stars ! decent price and hungry people order the Manhandler. it is really filling !

Ordered family pack on Friday Night and when I returned with food for 8 hungry people, we opened it up and found the order was incorrect. Ordered sliced brisket and got chopped something that was hard, dry and looked like it had been run through a blender. Called them on phone and complained and they said to bring it back and they would replace. They told me that is what I ordered although I have never ordered chopped brisket in my life. I asked my guest if they wanted to wait while I did the 30 minute round trip and they elected to eat what we had. Hung up the phone and went back to join my guest. When I returned I began to survey what was on the table and I asked where were the condiments and the sauce. They replied that what I saw, was all that came out of the bag. I apologized and called Mesquite Barbeque back and asked to speak with a Manager. I was given to Manager Haley, and explained that my order was incomplete. She said those items were free and I could come back up there and pick them up. She said they were available at a table and I should have got them before I left. Missing the whole point, I explained it is a common practice for take out orders to include everything that the menu says is included, and if that was not the case with them, then someone should have told me. I told her I had been buying takeout orders from them for years and I never recall getting sauce and condiments myself, they were always placed in the take out bag order like ever other Barbeque place in the world. No apology for ruining our meal and as a customer I felt like they did not care and in fact kind of blame me for not picking up the condiments. I ask her if that was all she had to say on the matter and I told her I would take my complaint elsewhere – Unilocal. I have never written a bad review on Unilocal but I was truly disappointed in the poor customer service of this long time establishment. Looking at some of the recent reviews it appears that the train is going off the track — too bad, hopefully the owner can fix the problem before it is too late! I probably will try them one more time before I take my business elsewhere, maybe they were having an off night!

Ok this may hurt some die hard fans feelings but I have to be honest the BBQ here was terrible! I had 3 meat plate $ 11: ribs, sausage and sliced brisket w mac&cheez, and baked beans… not one meat deserved to be considered«best in Mesquite»…I can name 2 other places that I would recommend based on flavor alone… Soulmans and the Wood Pit. The BBQ at MesquiteBbq was dry with no flavor and for $ 11 bucks the portions were laughable! The ribs were dry as hell and had hardly any meat and were over cooked and crispy. The brisket and sausage were cut really thin and both had no distinct smoke or normal BBQ flavor… bottom line the sides and free onions and peppers were the highlight of the meal… so I got ripped off and spent good money on freakin sides.

The best BBQ in Mesquite, that may not be saying a lot with few choices, but they are very good. My daughter loves the ribs, my son loves the ham and I’m a huge fan of the brisket. The sauce is amazing and their family recipe. They are family owned and run and the pecan pie they sell, also locally baked by a third party, is the best I’ve had since I was a child and my great grandmother was alive and cooking for her hungriest and most appreciative great grandchild. The chopped beef sandwich isn’t like a lot of other places that chop the scraps and fat, this is the real deal and their combos will fill the heartiest of appetites. They sell in bulk, so order by the pound and spread it around! You’ll see me there about twice a month or more.
