The go to place for authentic Chinese food. Dimsum on the weekend was outstanding. Really a fantastic place for reasonable money.

I loved a South Garden. We ordered there or dined in at least monthly. But now a new owner, they advertise same menu but it’s definitely a new kitchen staff. And a serious decline in the quality of the food. So disappointing. We have tried them several times hoping things would improve. Sadly they haven’t

This is still the same place essentially that it was before when it was South Garden, only under new management. I actually thought the food was a little better done than before. They made the bar bigger, so the restaurant portion is now a little smaller, but it is still nice. It felt a bit chilly in there and the front door always slams shut and scares you, but the food is still worth it, as is the service. The woman remembered us from having frequented there when it was South Garden.

Picked up some take away from Zhong’s tonight. This Chinese restaurant was formerly named South Garden. The facts: menu is the same, cooks are the same and the restaurant has had a face lift on the outside and in the bar area. Called to place an order by phone and it was ready for pick up in 15 minutes. My partner had D2 which is pork fried rice, chicken fingers, chicken wings and an egg roll. 1st — it is an enormous amount of food! More than you should safely consume in one setting! Stomach beware! 2nd and most important it was excellent. Not greasy, very flavorful and cooked perfectly. I had vegetable fried rice with Tofu and a side of Chinese broccoli. 1st– I have to say the vegetable fried rice is some of the best I have had. It is loaded with veggies not greasy at all and the added Tofu was crispy and perfectly cooked. 2nd– For those of you that have not had Chinese broccoli yet you must try it! It’s like a cross between spinach and broccoli. This place prepares it in a light garlic sauce and it’s amazing! I would highly recommend anyone who is in or lives in this area to give Zhong’s a try you won’t be disappointed! Happy Eating!

Sad replacement for South Garden. The food was over cooked; the rice was tasteless; and even soda tasted bad and cheap. The servicewas good, but we’ll be going to Jade Dragon from now on.

Zhong’s Restaurant(formerly South Garden) opened recently and was renovated. Similar to South Garden before, they offer a good Chinese menu including the standard Chinese dishes & items, Chinatown style dishes, chef’s specials, and 24 dim sum items(served Sat-Sun-Mon until 3PM). Most dishes priced under $ 12. 18 Lunch Plates served all day($ 6.25-$ 7.25) with pork fried rice and choice of soup(dine-in only) or free soda(takeout only until 3PM) are offered. 11 Dinner Plates served all day($ 7.95-$ 9.25) with pork fried rice, various appetizers, and choice of soup(dine-in only) are also offered. I stopped in here for lunch recently and dined in. Like before, the restaurant has a cocktail lounge and a clean dining room with light green colors. Each table is covered with a vinyl table cover. I ordered complementary hot tea(in a ceramic pot) and the L10 Pork Lo Mein($ 6.25 plus tax) with Pork Fried Rice, Egg Roll, and Hot & Sour Soup. The hot and sour soup had a mild spicy flavor broth with a mix of egg, tofu, vegetables, and bamboo. The lo mein dish consisted of firm noodles with plenty of tender roast pork strips, vegetables, and sprouts, a bit on the oily side, but flavorful. The pork fried rice served in the bowl was freshly made with a mix of firm rice, egg, tender roast pork pieces, and onions, slight oily texture. The egg roll was crisp on the outside and filled with a mix of shredded cabbage, ground pork, and seasonings, not greasy. Overall, the food I had tasted pretty good and the portions were just right for lunch and filling(I just about finished everything). The place was empty when I had lunch here on a Friday afternoon and the server left me alone to enjoy my lunch. The food came out quickly, soup first, then the lunch plate. I will have to return here for the dim sum. The prices went up slightly(ie $ 2.95 to $ 3.50, $ 3.75 to $ 4.75) for the dim sum items since the last South Garden review I posted in 2007(7 years ago).
