Sweet tea was a huge dissapointment, as it was barely sweetened at all. I got the crab cakes, and they were burnt on one side. The fried green tomatoes were mediocre. It’s sad when the best thing here is the complimentary bread.

My hubs and I were traveling to see family and when we travel we like to take in the local fare. There wasn’t much that looked good along the highway so we ventured into the downtown area just a bit and found Weideman’s. He had the spicy chicken sandwich and I had the shrimp grits. Lord have mercy, they were the best darn shrimp grits I ever ate and I’ve had them in MD, LA and TX. I couldn’t finish them and took half to go and they heated up great later in the hotel. Yes, I finished them off in the same day, they were that good. My husband’s chicken sandwich was also one of the best I’ve ever tasted — spiced just right. Another nice touch was the unique gratis appetizer of peanut butter served in a little crock with crackers. Too cute! The service was very good and the tea was well brewed(I’m a bit of a tea snob and will not drink«soda tea» like Gold Peak). I was pretty impressed with the whole experience. It was pricier than I normally go for while on the road, but the quality is definitely worth it!

Wasn’t good at all. From the stale crackers on the table. To waiting almost 30 mins for a non-alcoholic daiquiri which ended up being a smoothie. The waitress couldn’t even pronounce the specials which she never told us the price either. The shrimp scampi appetizer was so-so at best. Way too much lemon in the sauce. My salad came out with the dinner, not a major thing but normally salads are served before the entrée. My friends mashed potatoes tasted like they had fish sauce in them and their crab cakes truly tasted like pre-made frozen from the food supply company. $ 80 for this? Never again!

This place sells breadcakes(what they call crabcakes) for $ 24…if I want a loaf of bread I’ll get it for a dollar at Wal-mart. Not going back.

Great for brunch. Good variety of foods to choose from. Loved smoked salmon. Did not like the steaks much. Mud pie is ok.

My husband and I were in town for a short visit and stopped in for a late lunch. The atmosphere is a little upscale, which I love for a downtown establishment. Our server was prompt, courteous, and knew the menu well. The food was amazing, definitely the best meal we had while in Meridian. We were also pleasantly surprised when the bill arrived. I would absolutely recommend Weidmann’s and we will be back on our next visit.

We journeyed with two friends from Tuscaloosa, AL to Meridian(about 100 miles) for the expressed purpose of dining at Weidmann’s. It was WONDERFUL! I grew up in Alabama just across the state line from Meridian. Some of my earliest recollections are having Sunday Dinner(lunch to you non-Southerners) at Weidmann’s. It was fantastic in 1954 and is just as good today! What’s great about the«new» Weidmann’s is that it is considerably upgraded yet has lots of the original menu, décor, and ambience. The food is just as fantastic. I had Catfish Belvedere while other in our group had various burgers and grilled salmon salad. We shared black-bottom pie and lemon almond pie for dessert. The server as friendly, helpful, and efficient! We’ll be back and soon!

My mother used to work here as a waitress in the 1940s. I ordered the shrimp and grits and my mother ordered the grilled catfish dinner along with the creole cabbage. Now my shrimp and grits were full of flavor, but I do wish my grits were creamy. The grits came across a bit lumpy as well, but still the flavor was there!!! I took a picture of my mother’s place and she loved the fish and cabbage. I would recommend people to come here and enjoy!!!

What a beautiful historic place to experience lunch with my husband and two young kids while driving through on a road trip! Elegant but relaxed. Despite no other kids being there we found it VERYCHILDFRIENDLY but not child focused. You can’t go wrong when the meal starts with crackers and a little barrel of peanut butter. Kids also get crayons to color on the paper laid over the tablecloth. Children’s menu had about 6 different option including cheeseburger, grilled cheese, PB&J, fettuccini, chicken tenders, etc. kids also get a piece of candy from the neat wooden treasure chest in the lobby on your way out(with mom and dad’s permission). BATHROOMS are up a long but near flight of steps(there’s an elevator too). Women’s was spacious with a couple chairs, 4 stalls, clean & stocked, AND A DIAPERCHANGER.(Sorry non parents, but these are less common than you might imagine and super needed/appreciated with babies). SERVICE was pleasant and attentive. FOOD was very tasty. We tried the daily soup special, shrimp bisque, which had good flavor and spivey but not too hot or anything. I had a simple side salad and the sandwich special: turkey and bacon panini with avocado aioli. It was great but if approved on at all I’d add a little actual avocado and/or a tad more sauce as it was ever so slightly on the drier side but still quite enjoyable. Hubby got the shrimp & grits which were also a little spicy and very flavorful all in a good way. Definitely authentic Southern/Mississippi recipe. Even our daughters grilled cheese was really done well with thick but soft sourdough bread and a side of fries. My sandwich came with potato chips too that were slightly BBQ flavor. Overall a completely enjoyable experience with BEAUTIFULHISTORYANDAMBIANCE. I’m so thankful to the Unilocal community, our vacations have significantly improved with all the great local restaurants we are now able to explore and help us experience wherever we are so much better!

Got off the expressway to grab a burger but a very advantageous detour led us to Weidmann’s. The host was welcoming and the ambiance in the dining room was warm & romantic. Suzanne was our server and she was fantastic — friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The beer list features all Mississippi beers on tap and the three we tried were top notch. All of the food was delicious. We started with the Loaded Crab Cake appetizer and for entrees hubs had Catfish Belvidere and I had the Shrimp & Grits which were creamy, peppery and just the right ratio of grits-to-shrimp. Will return to Weidmann’s whenever we are in Meridian, Mississippi again!

One of the best shrimp n grits I’ve ever had: a wonderful mix of bright, savory, salty and briny. Well done, Weidmann’s! Wife had the Caesar Salmon — it was well-dressed, the fish moist. Middle child had the prime rib po’boy: tender, juicy and flavorful. This is a place steeped in local history: it’s palpable as soon as one walks in. This is a rare treasure: don’t miss it if you’re in the area!

Weidmann’s is definitely the dining highlight of Meridian! Weidmann’s is rich in history with delicious food to back it’s southern roots. From the crackers and peanut butter to their Steaks, their cuisine is prepared with lots of southern flair and love!. The 1870 sauce was phenomenal! The service was also exceptional, the waiter did not hurry us, answered all of our questions and made some favorable dinner suggestions!

Overall, excellent«downtown» dining experience. We have dined here for both dinner and brunch. The hostesses and waiters/waitresses have all been delightful, polite, attentive, and knowledgeable. All the staff have accomadated my requests and answered my questions about the menu options. The facilities upstairs and outside on the deck are great.(We have yet to eat downstairs.) It is kept cool inside so definitely enjoy any nice weather out on the deck. The bathrooms and dining areas are kept clean and are up to date. The menu items provide many options relevant to the culture of the area. There is a wide variety of appetizers, entrees, brunch items, and desserts. The specials have always been appealing; my boyfriend and/or I have always enjoyed a special and have been pleased thus far. We have only dined as a table of two or four; we do not know what a larger party experience would be. It is of my opinion that if I had to guess the atmosphere and set-up is best for smaller parties. This is my favorite fun, but expensive, dining experience in Meridian. I have enjoyed their brunch the most!

Weidmans has been an excellent choice for my wife’s family for many years. And I see why. They have very good food and good prices. The grilled chicken salad was very good. It is kind of sad that the restaurant was busy and hopping inside, but outside the restaurant was kind of dead.

Great atmosphere. Food is never disappointing. My husband and I LOVE the fried green tomatoes with the 1870 sauce and so does every guest that we have had and have taken to Weidmann’s loves it. The staff is always great and friendly.

One of the most interesting restaurants in Meridian. With the restaurant being around for over 145 years… The ambiance really captures its history with its beautiful tall ceilings and exposed brick walls. Unlike many places in Meridian, the staff here is engaging, polite, and service has always been over the top for us here while we were in town! The cuisine has a Cajun/Creole influence which is a perfect opportunity for one from out of town to explore the regions local cuisine! Our favorite dish here was the Tomahawk Ribeye Steak! It was a massive ribeye carved right off the side of the cow along with its flavor lending rib! They are crazy about their Fried Green Tomatoes here, which are good but we’d rather opt for their Fresh Homemade Crab Cakes, simply to die for! And for the adventurous foodie, there’s plenty on the menu to try everything from Carpaccio to Fire Roasted Shrimp in Juice of a Jabanero Pepper! As for desserts… pass up on the World Famous Black Bottom Pie and go for the the Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie or the Praline Cheesecake. Unless of course you like what tastes like chocolate mouse pudding topped with whip cream. Weidmann’s is also known for its upstairs lounge which has a balcony that looks right into the rest of beautiful, historic Downtown Meridian. It seems this was one of the few places in Meridian that could serve up some outstanding cocktails. This is a great spot for dinning in or just to stop for cocktails. The lounge upstairs serves some of the best, if not the best, cocktails Meridian had to offer.

This was a great find off I-20 in Downtown Meridian. The staff at our hotel(Fairfield Inn) referred us here for a nice dinner after a long day of driving… am I glad we took the advice. After entering the building you immediately realize you found a true gem. The décor is conservative and highlights the history of the restaurant and the town. We started dinner with the fried green tomatoes with the 1870 sauce(think the sauce for a great stroganoff but with shrimp). My wife had the grilled catfish with crab belvedere(light parmasean and wine cream sauce, red and and green peppers and green onion) with a side of made from scratch Augatin potatoes. I went for the shrimp and cheese grits with a cream sauce with fresh tomatoes. This was amazingly simple with great flavor. The shrimp were perfectly prepared, and the grits were creamy with enough cheese to enhance the flavors of the dish without overwhelming any one ingredient. Service was prompt and pleasant. Everyone was a joy to interact with. Stop here and enjoy a true taste of the south!

This place is a hidden gem in the middle of downtown Meridian, MS. The service was great, but the food… the food was out of this world. The Fried Green tomatoes with 1857 sauce is decadent creole with mushrooms, shrimp and a creamy tomato sauce. It’s big, so don’t let the price deter you. At $ 13, it will feed at least two as an app. The creole cabbage was simmered slow and you can tell. Even the corn muffin was melt-in-your-mouth good. This is worth a drive from Memphis if your out for a day, definitely stop on a trip south down 45.
