They lure you with old school appearance, cool sign and name. You think«OHHH! old timey burgers and fries served curbside, like by a car hop!» What you get a slobby disinterested server and an unseasoned frozen burger patty filled frozen fries. Despite the name of this place, i couldn’t get an onion slice for my burger. «but you sell onion rings!» I protested «they’re frozen» she retorted/ Of course! Was I thinking!

We really love the burgers, onion rings, tots, shakes and banana splits… they use real bananas. Back in 79 my husband and I would hang out with friends at Hungry Onion. If you haven’t tried the Green Rivers you are missing out… We’ve taken our grand kids there, they had the kids meal with the sliders and Green Rivers. They loved it. When asked where they would like to get a burger now they want Hungry Onion instead of McDonalds…

Food is ok. Not the best. It was not busy and the service was slow. I was disappointed with the fries. They were soggy

Denizens of Treasure Valley, there are times when«gourmet» is the furthest thing from your mind. There are times when white tablecloths, folded napkins, and chandeliers are the last thing you want. For times like these, we have places like the Hungry Onion. I found this place because I began frequenting the Big Star Coffee shop just up the road. They are some of the best«grease bomb» burgers I’ve ever had. It has the old vintage«drive up» feel and really nails a good ol’ fashioned«grease bomb» burger. That said, it does create a couple of caveats, but if you know that going in, I think you’ll be very satisfied with this place. So it is drive up service… no inside seating, and the service is a bit on the slow side for burgers and fries. So if you’ve got a car full of grumpy toddlers, keep on driving. This isn’t the place to stop. Also they are very much«grease bomb» burgers. There is nothing healthy about what you will get here. But if that’s the kind of burger you are craving, this place will absolutely satisfy. Oh and the fries are HUGE portions. I got a large not knowing how«large» it would be, and had a hard time finishing it myself. The small will more than suffice for a single person. Bottom line, when you are looking for an excellent(and totally bad for you) burger experience, pull into the Hungry Onion. You’ll be lip-smackingly satisfied.

After working late — I asked the teenagers where were we going to eat. One of them recommended this place. Crazily enough I had no idea it even existed. I totally enjoyed it and will most definitely return. I got the chicken strips, with onion rings and a caramel shake. The food was prepared right then, and so hot I had to be careful with it! Onion rings were awesome. I shouldn’t have to say it(but in this day and age you have to) they were made with real onions! One of the kids got a burger and just from the size of the wrapper it was a good size and she loved it. The place does not look like much — but it was good. And on top of all that a friendly car hop checked back on us to make sure we were still good!

We got a couple of cheeseburgers, tots, fries, a Korn dog(yes, spelled with a «k») and a raspberry shake. The food was so-so, definitely wouldn’t come back for it. The car hop also seemed like she absolutely hates her job. :(

We really enjoyed it. Fast and friendly, good prices, and a cool vintage style. We’ll go back.

The hamburger I had was great! I’d go again just for it. The rest I wasn’t impressed with at all.

The menu needs a little more of a selection my hamburger was alright I’ve made better hamburgers myself does’t compare to any of the little Hamburger joints I’m accustomed to out in Southern California were I came from the finger Steaks were a little dry would i go back no unless a new owner improved the quality of food.

Great burgers, even better onion rings!!! One of the oldest burger joints in Meridian, this place has stood the test of time and has the taste to prove it. Try it out and enjoy the feel of an old drive in.

This place has been a fixture in Meridian for more than 50 years. 1960s type drive-up service(there are a few picnic tables too, but no inside seating). Great classic burger joint. Very close to highway for those coming to/from eastern Oregon.
