Extremely thin crust, good texture, good sauce, good mozz. Cooked in a brick oven with wood fire, very good pizza especially for outside New Haven area. After reading others who have posted poor reviews on saying soggy pizza, I suggest you go for no topping or ask for well done as the crust is super thin.

We were so excited when the doors were finally reopened to a pizza joint, after being vacant for over a year after we bought our house down the street! The pizza is pretty good but we love their grinder rolls!(chicken cutlet with prov, please!) They are my go to in Meriden for stuffed breads. I had one awful experience with their customer service since they’ve opened but the food is so delicious, I won’t hold any grudges and we’ll still order from there all the time as usual!

I have been seeing reviews for Castello Pizza for a long time and was eager to try it out. We were in Meriden to do some shopping and take in the lights at Hubbard Park, so we decided to stop in and get a pizza. There is a small dining area and it was very warm and inviting and smelled great! The employees were very friendly. We ordered a large half meatball/half sausage and peppers pizza and 12 wings. It was $ 31, which I thought was a bit pricy. We drove about 25 minutes home and had to heat it all up when we got home. We probably would have done that anyway, the bottom of the pizza was not crispy and the wings were not crispy either. The wings were fine, though we ordered«hot» and I did not find them to be spicy at all. They were less spicy than Frank’s red hot. The pizza was good but not the best I’ve ever had. If I lived locally I could see myself going there once in a while or trying other varieties. It seems too expensive to be a regular pizza stop. But I definitely would not go out of my way to go there, if I’m going to go out of my way, I’ll go to New Haven for pizza.

Didn’t really find anything wrong with my delivery pizza, food was here in a reasonable time, delivery guy was friendly. Top perfectly well done, crust nice and thin but not stiff, a little soggy :(a bit of a bummer. But overall good. Holding back a star until I try more of their foods.

Once upon a time, I trusted Unilocal reviews especially surrounding places to eat, but slowly I am starting to question the validity of reviews. After reading«raving» reviews yet again, I ended up here at Castello, only to be disappointed. Upon arriving, I salivated in thinking: «Ah… Finally something to come close to the kind of pizza I used to eat in Brooklyn NYC.» After speaking to what I believe was a family member/owner, he told me with a straight face: «Oh you’re from Brooklyn. We have a family who drives here from NYC just for pizza.» Unfortunately, I must have been wearing a stupid bumper sticker on my forehead that day. Anyhow the pizza… Bland, mediocre, run of the mill. I don’t get it anymore. Once upon a time, I used to rely on these reviews, now, I suspect companies are likely hiring people to post rave reviews on mediocre restaurants. I gave this place 2 stars to be fair. I have had better pizza(and I mean this honestly) from the frozen food section in the supermarket.

Picked up a large sausage & mushroom pizza tonight. Total was $ 17.02 Decent pie, I enjoyed the sauce, the toppings, etc. One side of pizza was charred, the other was not. Overall though, it was a tasty pizza, and I would return in the future.

I just ordered take out from Castello’s. I’ve ordered from here many times and have always been more than satisfied with the food. Today however, I had the best chicken parmesan grinder(sub) that I’ve ever eaten. You can tell the chicken was hand cut, breaded and cooked, not that pre-packaged, pre-made stuff you get from other places. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. You could literally taste the different cheeses. The mozzarella was the perfect amount not overwhelming the sandwich. Then I would get tastes of pockets of grated parmesan which was amazing. The bread was tasty and soft, the right kind of soft, like it was freshly baked. Which finally brings me to the sauce. Beware! This is not your bland run of the mill pizza place sauce. It is jam packed with flavors ranging from roasted tomato to roasted garlic and what might be some red pepper flake! The sauce is of the homemade, italian grandmother, cooked all day on Sunday variety. The amount of sauce was perfect and blended well with the rest of the sandwich to give it the perfect consistency. This I find is the fatal flaw of most places. Not enough sauce which makes it so dry, or too much where the bread falls apart but none of that is a problem at Castello’s. As if this sandwich couldn’t get any better, it was baked to perfection in a wood fired brick oven! Calling all Meriden and surrounding towns pizza/italian places, take note this is how it’s done!

We hate to admit that we probably have not had enough pizza in our lives to suggest this place has a lock on dough, sauce and cheese; nonetheless it do, it do! If you can grab a pie and swoop across the street to catch some old school picnic date action at the park-the pizza is even better!
