In an age when consumer homogeneity is at an all-time high and every city in the USA has the same selection of stores to choose from, you know, large corporate chain stores, it’s refreshing to find a owner-operated gift shop to patronize. These small, independent stores flavor a neighborhood, making it a special or unique place to visit and reflect the personality and tastes of the owner. In other words, they’re a fun place to shop, especially if you’re looking for something unique. Terra Bella on Mercer Island is just this sort of independent gift shop and owner/operator, Nancy Meade, is a warm and charming host with impeccable taste. She carries a wide selection of merchandise in every price point and is eager to help you find that special housewarming gift, or share a new product that she’s excited about. It’s the kind of store you want to visit whether you’re in the market to buy something or not, just to see what’s new and say hello to Nancy. I highly recommend Terra Bella on Mercer Island and look forward to visiting their other store in Issaquah next time I’m in the neighborhood – definitely on the 30th of April when artist Sid Dickens will make a rare public appearance there and sign his work.

Cute place with a limited mix of high-end stuff and low end things at high prices. A pack of 6 little red hot dog/hamburger baskets was $ 7. Across the street, Albertson’s had 4 of them for $ 1.99. Look here then find the stuff online at much better prices.

New high-end housewares store that relocated to Mercer Island from Bellevue. They have a lot of nice scented soaps, candles, and shea hand cremes to choose from. Also candle sticks, fancy serving plates and other small house accessories. There is also a small section for babies. Softest teddy bears around. A bit on the pricey end but I would think worth price especially for the lotions, it can set you back $ 20 and up. They also sell Coobie products( ) for about the same price that you can get them for online. There is a decent scarf selection. If you are buying a gift item, there are also greeting cards available(both funny and more serious cards available) You can tell the owners have selected the products they sell with care and are proud of all of it. I’ve met a couple of the ladies that work there. Both were very pleasant and knowledgeable of all their products and were very happy to suggest ideas. This location partnered with food trucks in the Seattle area so every Tuesday-Thursday from 11−1pm, you will find a different food truck parked adjacent to their building. It made for a pleasant lunches and also gives Terra Bella great food traffic to their business. Hope this place stays around a while. Mercer Island needs cute shops like this one.
