The food is good but what caused the horrible taste of this place is the vert poor customer service under the management of one called Marin. This person never came to the phone to hear the problem we had with our delivered food: starting with w/o the specific dressing we asked for … since the order desk insisted we order something other then the pizza to qualify for delivery. I repeated myself several times about the dressing … now i have a salad i can’t eat w/o dressing! Simple phone call right? Initial call, i was placed on hold on and off several times with having to repeat my situation constantly along with giving my name and number. After many refernces of this«Marin» I was finally told to look up Applewood Pizza to speak to Marin direct who is located across the street. I googled Applewood’s number(located across the street from the delivery number??) and called it, I then asked to speak to Marin. After being placed on hold for a very long time, someone by the name Jessica told that«Marin» is extremely busy and that if I wanted to speak to him Id have to wait my turn. I explained once again my situation and she interrupted me by telling me id have to wait. Im turning to Unilocal to voice our disappointment at the disorgnization and lack of customer care i experienced tonight from Applewood. I cannot recommend this kind of customer service to anyone at all. You can’t correct a mistake from a voice you’re not willing to hear?!

congratulations on making one of the best peninsula pizzerias into one of the worst. whenever i work on menlo park or rwc, applewood was a go to for pizza. sure, the prices are a bit on the high side & the décor is old school, but you got a good meal. that is no longer the case. don’t bother. when i went to pick up my order, they managed to miss the fact i ordered a second pizza. their customer service was meh & the cashier blamed the ordering app for not giving them enough time. i suspect the ownership may have changed.

We ordered a pizza for delivery. What a mistake! They mistook our order despite verbally confirming several times. Then when we called back to describe the problem they said they would fix the problem and remake the pizza. Then after calling me back again to confirm the order they just said they would fix, they called back again to tell me that they wouldn’t remake the pizza unless I drove the bad pizza to them to exchange it. This completely defeats the purpose of ordering delivery. 0 out of 10 for customer service.

Another great pizza place to go. The salads and the beers. Not bad at all. Great for my Fridays Nites. And it is family friendly.

Extremely good pizza. The toppings can be a bit unusual but if you’re up to try new things go from the menu. Otherwise you can always make your custom pizza. Salads are also very good.

Sadly Applewood Pizza of Menlo Park is no more … so I had to delete my ‘old’ glowing review and replace it with this One Star Warning … We ordered two pizzas from the main restaurant, to go. One small One medium. $ 35 The biggest disappointment is the crust, its now very similar to frozen pizza style crust … and the crust was the main reason I loved the pizza for more than 20 years … thick crust, big bubbly crust … now it is almost like what you find in a bagel :( The crust is similar to DiGiorno Frozen Self Rising pizza crust — in fact the texture and taste were very close — which was not only surprising but also disappointing as this place was famous for their crust. The pizza was not cut evenly or properly, unless you like eating half the pizza as ONE piece(not kidding). Some piece were tiny little wedges. Some pieces were not cut all the way through. It looks like they had a speed cutting contest to see who could cut their pizza fastest… and by the looks of it, whoever was cutting our medium pizza won … Some toppings were burned black — yes, like charcoal — well I imagine when you leave 3 pieces of Salami stacked on top of each other, the top one will curl and get burned… Not too difficult to evenly distribute toppings on a pizza, unless you are in a hurry, I am guessing that is why only 25% of the pizza had ALL the crumbled sausage dumped on it … like a small sandpile So it was abundantly clear that no effort or care was placed into the preparation, baking, or cutting of the pizza, like they were in a big hurry to get it done… and that’s also surprising because when I went to pick it up, the place was nearly empty, the three employees were standing together chatting away … and this was a Saturday night. Needless to say I wont be back, well, once more — but only to return the pizza and get my money back for the first time in 20 years :( (as soon as I can get these photos out of my camera and online I will post them)

This place is terrible, ordered garlic bread and we receive a piece of fried bread with a garlic clove on top. Also the pizza is super dry and over-priced. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone, even though the beer is cheap.

I love their food, never had an issue but just this one time. The guy that delivered my pizza and salad must have been hitting corners because all the topping and cheese were pushed over leaving a good sarea bare. Theres no issue with the taste but presentation was sad.

Terrible customer service experience. Order from web app was wrong(pizza defaults to a non-traditional sauce). Restaurant refused to fix the issue and stated that in addition to not making the pizza right, I would have to pay an additional delivery charge. Terrible customer service. Won’t ever be eating/ordering from there again.

Sorry to say that this was possibly one of the worst places to have pizza. Trust me I know pizza. I really did want to like the place the vibe was nice. The employees weren’t so professional. This place really needs new management and to vamp up the pizza.

My 5 star rating is going to be purely for the setting and food quality not the customer service because for a mom and pop restaurant I look for quality food at a good price. My family has been coming to this place since before I was born, so I have truly grown up with Applewood pizza. I have only had pizza off their menu, and the pizza here is truly amazing. IF you think that the crust of a pizza does not matter I will just say that this place will make you think differently after eating here. Applewood has taught me that the crust is a crucial part of the pizza making it with a soft inside and perfect thin crust on the outside. I usually get the menlo special pizza, budapest sausage pizza, or prawn pizza and they are all great(yes prawn pizza is a thing and this place does it well). They have some good beers on tap and in the bottle, which is always a plus. Now as for the setting, Applewood has a classic set up with wood paneling, wood tables, and low lighting for people who complain about customer service… just understand before coming that you order at the counter and you pick up your food from the counter when it is ready. There are no bus boys/girls, so it is self service to that extent, but hey you are at a pizza joint not an expensive restaurant you are paying for the food quality not the waiter, which in this setting and type of cuisine I think is perfect. Please go and check it out.

I just returned from eating a personal size Budapest style pizza at Applewood in Menlo Park. The minute I came home I had to get the bad taste out of my mouth. It is, without doubt, the worst pizza I have ever eaten.

Ok so let’s start with the name. It is «Applewood Gourmet Pizza.» With that name I was expecting a higher level of pizza than I got. If the name was Applewood Pizza this would be a 3 star review. Because I had higher levels of expectation set by the name, it is two. I ordered a Pizza Margherita. I was expecting a thin crust pizza, with basil leaves, sweet tomato sauce and buffalo mozzarella. I got a very basic thick crust pizza, regular cheese, and smothered in pesto. Again, if this was Applewood pizza, my level of expectation would have been different and I would have ordered something more basic. I actually got good service, but I was in there on a Tuesday evening so it wasn’t busy.

Don’t even bother to go to this place. Horrible customer service! I had to go inside and wait for ~3−5 minutes to talk to the cashier/waiter. The place was literally empty and I was forced to call the number which I called 20 minutes prior to place my pizza pick-up. As the phone started ringing, a guy came from inside to answer the phone. After I politely explained that it was actually me calling, he did not even bother to apologize for the wait. Anyways, I ended up not taking the pizza when he said I can’t split the cost between two credit cards,(mine and co-worker’s). That just ticked me off and I walked out. I’d pay double the price at Little Cesar’s…

The food alone, is always amazing. I have yet to be disappointed when it comes to their pizza(I’m not even a fan of pizza, but it’s just too damn good to pass up). My favorite is definitely the pesto(all variations: with onion or with sun dried tomatoes are all glorious). This place is our go-to pizza delivery place at work and they are really good about getting the food to us on time. The few times I have eaten there resulted in a positive experience. It’s great because you can order your pizza and drink, then go sit and wait for them to either call your name or they take it to your table depending how busy they are. They’re friendly and helpful. Also, there’s beer there! Now, the prices are a little bit pricier than say, Round Table, however, if you want some gourmet pizza and are willing to pay for it, this is your place.

Great pizza!!! Our family enjoyed their extra large half-n-half pizza; smoked salmon with capers and pepperoni/sausage/mushroom. It was out of this world! Their crust was thick and crunchy with a nice flavor. The cheese on the pizza is fresh with a hint of smokiness to it. Their bacon spinach salad was delicious. Move over New York City.

Not sure whether to rate this a 1 or 2 star. First time here and the place is dark with old wood paneling. We weren’t sure whether to sit or order at the counter. All the employees just stared at us and not even a single hello. Very poor customer service. We ordered the Langos(garlic bread). Basically a piece of fried bread with a clove of garlic. We also ordered the menlo combo and the los altos pizza. Mediocre pizza definitely not worth driving to. I would rather order pizza at round table which is closer to home.

Some of the reviews are right on the money: 1. The inside is old. Looks old and smells old. 2. Unclear if we should sit down and order from the table or go to the bar and order. 3. Didn’t realize they just call the last 2 digit of the receipt. Had to go up to the counter and pick up the pizza ourselves. Including plates and forks. Need water pitcher refilled? Go to the counter yourselves. 4. Because it was unclear what service we would receive, i signed a 15% tip when I ordered and paid the pizza. And we got pretty much zero service. Same as McD. Rip off, but that’s my own fault for walking in here. 5. Pizzas were slightly above average. No more. Thanks.

I really enjoyed their medium pizza with salami and sausage. in like twenty minutes or so, it arrived, looking quite delightful, just the right amount of marinara and sausage — it’s scent arose, it’s crust, golden, like the Roman gods would have wanted. The stars shone thru the window’s and our eyes met. and we were not denied — slice after slice, till there was rapture. And enough for 3 hungry eaters. Generous amounts of meat and the crust was tastey too. $ 18.00 We shared a bottle of Franciscan Cabernet Sauvignon, it was delicious: notes of black berry, pear and cherry with a nice heft. Fine quality and very good value at $ 32.00 Tip: if you really like pizza, try to splurge about twice as much money for the vino. Customer service: fine. Parking: ok Bathrooms: clean
