Jack Pirtles Chicken

I’m here in Memphis from Atlanta working. Looking for something to eat, so I stop hoping for the best. The best chicken sandwich ever!!!

Best fried chicken in Memphis. This location is particularly great. However, you can’t go wrong at any. Tip– get the steak sandwich with fries and a side of gravy. Dip the fries in the gravy, repeat. Have mercy!

WOW — we see why this is a «Memphis Thing!» We drive by this place and could not miss the billboard proclaiming Jack Pirtles the Memphis restaurant association 2014 distinguished restaurant. Those awards matter, and we trust them.
Our location was walk up and drive thru only, and a line was forming (always a good sign!) while we looked at the menu.
OMG the chicken was tender, juicy, not greasy AT ALL and both perfectly spiced and salted, inside and out. They must use a pressure-​marinating system to infuse their chicken with a brine before frying. It was so tender and moist, plus seasoned all the way through to the bone, that this MUST be how they do it.
The chicken and rice gravy bowl had savoury yellow rice topped with tender chicken and a lovely peppery gravy. For those who may not want to eat fried, the 8oz bowl is enough for lunch with a biscuit. The bowl also comes in a 16oz size for dinner, perfect for a side.

This super popular Memphis fixture has fantastic chicken, with quick and easy service. This location is strictly drive-​thu, but some other Pirtles have sitdown areas inside. I eat here regularly.

It’s 2pm and the chicken is hot & fresh. Unlike on my last visit when I found feathers on my chicken.

The wait is too long. I ordered 4hotwings and it took thirty minutes. the chicken was very good but its not considered a fast food place to me!!!

This is by far the best chicken in the south. Its perfect in texture, flavorful, & crispy. This chicken is seasoned to perfection and eaten along with fries and gravy, with perfect little biscuits on the side. I have never been disappointed in this chicken once in 20 years. The foot long hotdogs, cheeseburgers, fried chicken livers, and gizzards are great as well. I have never ordered anything that wasn’t good. Always on point worth every cent!

Didn’t want any Buffalo Style Chicken wings, had a taste for some good ol’ country fried wings and these guys were spot on.
As long as my mother has lived in Memphis, this is my first time ever having Pirtle’s chicken and it was a pleasant surprise.
Will definately consider them when I don’t want to spend an arm and a leg for some Popeye’s
