Really enjoy there food, music and ambiance only thing I didn’t like was the the seating was right next to me he door. If it’s cold out keep your coats or grab it to go

I recommend the fresh mozzarella sandwich with balsamic and basil. The ingredients were fresh and the portion size is huge so you can easily take half to go. The menu was a bit pricey, especially for the pasta.

I was told 20 minutes for take out and you took 60. The staff were so unorganized! It was painful to watch. I will not be back. I would really recommend that you hire a manager for the weekends. All of the staff were high school kids!

This place is ok at best. Food preparation is inconsistent, sometimes it’s spot on and other times it «I won’t feed this to me dog». I liked the place at first when they opened in Melrose but now I’m not a fan after too many long waits to bring home shabby food.

Unfortunately at this time I cannot recommend Comella’s for either their community support or their customer service. We partnered with them for a school fundraiser on a Monday night, where by 15% of all purchases with the exception of $ 5 pizzas would benefit our school. The location manager reneged on the corporate-approved coupon offer and excluded all pizzas from the fundraiser, did not alert us or customers to the change, and did not staff properly for what is normally a slow evening. It was a bad experience for the majority of our families, with rude staff who were overwhelmed, to the families that brought them tons of business. RESOLUTION: We had an amazing turn-out at our Comella’s Dine Out — our school raised $ 165.72! Some families had good experiences while others did not. The Melrose manager stated a miscommunication with the terms of the coupon, and made good by tallying all profits from Monday, only excluding the $ 5.00 pizzas, and applying our 15% to that.

I have only had their wings and the Grilled Buffalo pizza. Both are really good! My complaint is the wait. Almost every single time I have called to place an order(5+ times) the wait for a pizza is an hour. One time it was 2 hours and it wasn’t Super Bowl Sunday or any other major«pizza» eating holiday. Their food quality does not equal the wait time. Go to one of the other many pizza places on Main Street or in Melrose.

The inside is small and cute. They have $ 5 cheese pizza everyday and it’s good. You cant go wrong.

I don’t like american italian and love italian italian. This is an american italian cuisine which is not a good quality. You can use it from time to time if you do not want to cook and this place is close to you.

Holy delicious! We ordered the cheese lasagna with ziti. At first, I thought it was weird to serve pasta with pasta, but it worked! We ate there and got a ½ bucket for two people. It was more than enough for 2 meals between us– for just $ 24! Eating the lasagna with the ziti tasted so good! Everything was fresh and flavorful. Some tomato sauces skew too sweet for me, but theirs was awesome. Next time, we will probably get takeout since it’s close to home and they’re really more of a takeout place. There will absolutely be lots of more next times!

Absolutely dreadful. Completely inedible. We bought 2 servings of some simple pasta and sauce dish and it was the most disgusting thing we’ve ever had. I’m not a picky eater at all when it comes to pasta and I had to throw the second serving away without even opening it. The pasta was soggy and overcooked and the sauce was overly sweet and bland. Shameful. Another restaurant FAIL for Melrose.

Underwhelmed. I was debating between 2 and 3 stars and decided on 2… here’s why: Living in Melrose my whole life I was excited to see the addition of Comella’s Downtown after seeing them on Phantom Gourmet over the years. After work one Friday night I decided to give them a try. Ordered 2 calzones, 2 pasta dishes, and an order of fried calamari. They said a half hour. I showed up 25 mins later. As I was paying the calzones came out… she said a few more minutes on the pastas — sure. She put the calzones on the top of oven as I waited. Ten minutes later the pastas and calamari come out. I drive(5 – 6 mins) home. We take everything out. The pastas are lukewarm. The calamari is soggy. It just didn’t make sense. I waited for these to come out and these are the items that are cold? As far as the quality goes it was pretty standard.(Think Polcari’s…nothing amazing nothing awful) The calzones were pretty good. Had the pastas been hot they would’ve been good. I even had to pop the goat cheese ravioli in the microwave for a minute. I got these in a pesto sauce. It essentially was olive oil with chopped basil and pine nuts. The bottom of the container was a good 1⁄8 cup of oil left. Overall, like I said in the beginning I was underwhelmed. It was busy, and they recently opened, so I’m hoping if I try them again in a few months things will improve. Until then, two stars it is.

Like I said in my review on their Marblehead location, a great combination of quantity and quality. Comella’s serves a great need in the Melrose/Main Street area. You can feed a family for a relatively low cost and not feel like you’re eating at a national chain. Very good niche and I’ll be a regular for sure.

Nah. I’m very disappointed. If I want mediocre«Italian» food, I’ll give my money to the two small owner-operated pizza joints within several blocks of here instead of a chain. Gave it three times. There won’t be a fourth.

This new-ish joint happens to be a chain that I love. My first experience here(opening weekend) was not great, 2 stars, but they proved great customer service and lured me back in. My second time was worlds better. They have a delicious $ 5 large cheese pizza and the olivia rose(buffalo chx) is amazing! They also have a very good(for) GF pizza(according to my friend). It is very small –think 6 small tables– and usually busy on evenings. Do yourself a favor, call ahead and pick up.

Pretty excited to see Comella’s opened in Melrose this week as there were no good options for Italian take out food without venturing to Route 1… My boyfriend and I tried getting take out last night and were pleasantly surprised. We ordered two hot sandwiches and a salad. While the pizza, salad and chicken cutlet sandwich were good, the eggplant parm sandwich was a let down. The eggplant was too thin and just really soggy. I couldn’t even see a solid piece of eggplant — just a lot of breading. The pizza is great and we’ll most definitely be back for the $ 5 cheese. The tall male manager seemed great — attentive and pleasant. The staff were a little lost but it could also be because they’re so new. We will definitely be back to give it another shot but I’ll probably stick to the pizza!
