Tasty Gourmet is closed forever. This is a horrible loss for the greater Boston sandwich community.

I came to know Tasty Gourmet during their twilight years. I never ordered delivery, I always brought my kids, they never wore gloves, I never got sick. Heartburn, maybe. But that’s ’cause I always made a point of getting the onion rings, which were above average. And that goes for the rest of the food: chicken parm, turkey club, whatever. They were always welcoming, in that grungy, begrudging Boston suburbs way. Not exactly the eulogy we’d all want, but I am sure that if we had met when we were both younger, this would be a glowing five stars.

Here now, the owner told us it’s his last week in business, they’re selling the store because it’s empty when college students aren’t in town. 16 years of business and he’s closing up shop.

I’ve ordered from then several times, always via delivery. The delivery is about as fast as anywhere in the area(I’m near Union Square), and the food has been consistent and tasty and the prices reasonable. They’ve always been friendly, and the menu has a wide range of things to try that I’m slowly working through. I keep coming back, so should you.

The food is lackluster, and a bit pricy for what you get. I was also not impressed with the upkeep of the shop, the walls, floors, and most other things were covered in food splatters or grime. The guys behind the counter were friendly, but they messed up the one very important request that I had. I cannot eat chilled deli meat due to a medical condition that puts me highly at risk for food poisoning. I ordered a roast beef sandwich, but specifically said that I absolutely needed the meat piping hot because of my medical condition. The gent who took my order said no problem, and I sat down to wait(ours was the only order going in at the time). After a while, I got my sandwich, and when I went to bite into it, the meat was still chilly on the inside. The guy was more than willing to take my beef and fry it up on the grill, but I’m not impressed when you can’t address the medical needs of your only customer you’re serving. One star for food, ambiance, and messing up an important order, plus one more star for at least being friendly about it.

Just ordered from here on Grubhub for delivery, and wish I hadn’t. The main attraction for me was the Cuban Panini, I’m always on the lookout for a great Cubano, if you are as well, KEEPLOOKING! To call yourself«Tasty Gourmet» and use frozen breakfast sausage patties instead of what you claim on your menu is roasted pork tenderloin is an insult to the culinary industry. I have been a chef for 22 years and don’t like to post bad reviews because I know how it makes hardworking food service people feel, but this sandwich shows me you just don’t care, and it’s a bit disappointing because, although the sandwich was terrible, there was also a great deal of promise in it, and if it were made properly, it may have been great, and you may have gained a very loyal customer. The biggest issues with the sandwich were #1 no roasted pork tenderloin as stated on your menu, instead it was layered with frozen breakfast sausage patties(gross, they went in the garbage), and #2NOPICKLES??? The pickles and the pork are the two main ingredients in a Cubano, you state on your menu it has thick cut dill pickles, but they were nowhere to be found. The positives about the sandwich, which show promise #1 Despite wrong and missing ingredients, the sandwich was well put together, just do not call it a Cuban. #2 The bread was fresh and perfect for the type of sandwich. #3 The ham was delicious, and had the perfect amount, for what ended up being my ham and swiss sandwich. #4 Perfect amount of dijon and chipotle aioli. If this sandwich had roast pork instead of sausage, and had the pickles this would have been a 4 or 5 star review, but that sausage says to me you just don’t care anymore, and lost your passion. As for everything else, the delivery girl was very pleasant, delivery was here in the timeframe I was given(a little over an hour), the rest of the order was right, got a cookie for my niece(she hasn’t eaten it yet, so no review on that, but it’s huge). And the coleslaw was very good. Maybe in the future I’ll give them another chance, and update the review accordingly.

Worst service ever. Waited 2 hours for a sandwich to be delivered. Called multiple times, people were rude. Food is ok, but not worth that hassle!

It may have been a bad day, but when I was there, an angry man was at the counter, preparing food without gloves on, making a mess out of everything. I was with a friend who says that the place isn’t always like that, but I sure as heck had a horrific experience…

I have ordered from this place a few times. Pretty much have to say the same as everyone else who reviewed this place: VERY delicious, but service wise, it can be meh, at times. The old looking guy who is usually there can be a bit on the arrogant side, at times. One time I came in literally the minute they closed(not to my knowledge that it had closed) but the door was still open and I went in. For 5 minutes, I was standing there and the old guy finally«noticed» me and made a smart aleck-like remark about the fact that I came in when they have closed. But he was kind enough to still make me my sandwich. I can understand why people complain over the fact that he doesn’t wear gloves while preparing the food, but I don’t mind it. And one time when I ordered delivery, they gave me the wrong order. Overall, service isn’t great, but adequate and the food is definitely worth a try.

Tasty Gourmet. Honestly, this is a pretty sad little joint. The location leaves a lot to be desired, but most Tufts students like myself have limited off campus dining options. The food here is actually not too bad– some options which are decent include the lunch sandwich sets, as well as the turkey options. There is also a decently priced fried fish option, even though the fish isn’t fantastic. The biggest problem with tasty gourmet doesn’t stem from the food, but the service and general maintainence of the store. They regularly run out of items and are constantly understocked, meaning they generally won’t have the item you’re trying to order. The people who run the store are not great either. While they’re not flat out rude, they don’t really extend good manners to their customers, and cook food pretty slowly. I saw some people further down saying they were fun conversationalists, but I’ve never experienced this. The shop is also almost always closed, as the owners often just choose not to come into work. Wish I could rate it higher due to the food, but this place is below average.

Food is good but DONOTGETDELIVERYFROMTHESEGUYS. Took an hour and a half to arrive, the sandwich was lukewarm and they didn’t bother to include the onion rings I asked for. Waiting to see whether I am going to be receiving a refund for those, but the manager I spoke with was not in any way apologetic or gracious on the phone, so I’m not optimistic. It’s a shame because I’ve liked their food in the past. Maybe a totally different experience as a walk-in, but I won’t be giving them anymore of my money.

If you like waiting over an hour and a half for your delivery, and a delivery guy that laughs about sending the wrong drink, this is the place to order from. I’m not one to complain as i understand that things happen, but every time i order from this place they take well over an hour and always screw something up. Edit: Bumping up to 2 stars because they do have delicious food(when you get all of it). Not giving up hope that they’ll get their act together just yet.

The bedazzling mystique of a $ 7.50 bag lunch wears down quickly, especially when you’re told it no longer includes Dr. Brown’s sodas, and if you’re there within a half hour of opening, you can’t get hot sandwiches. The Italian still sports sliced-to-order meats, but everything for toppings is a few flimsy shreds of iceberg, pickles and hots. All loaded on top of the meat pocket, which guarantees drippage to the nth degree. Hey, at least the bread stays(too?) dry. The LevelUp hardware is also chronically out of order. At least they rarely smile!

The food has always been good every time I’ve been here. Not fantastic, but good. The prices are good if you get a special, like the 7.50 bag lunch. However, I have to give a bad review because the service is AWFUL. There have been times I’ve been in here and have seen a couple of people line up and get completely ignored. Like, the employees clearly knew they were there but did not acknowledge them whatsoever. And never dare to ask a question about the menu unless you want to be treated like you’re an absolute idiot. Also, the main man I always see(maybe the owner) making sandwiches never wears gloves and touches his face/head while preparing food. Yuck!

Oh Tasty Gourmet. How it breaks my heart to give you one star. The sandwiches are absolutely delicious, however this is the 2nd time in a row my husband and I have had an absolutely awful experience calling in very simple sandwich orders. It’s hard to give more than 1 star when you can’t actually get the delicious sandwiches. 2 weeks ago when my husband called in an order around 6:00pm, the woman who answered the phone told him that«the people who know how to make the sandwiches aren’t here right now.» Seriously? You are a sandwich shop. If that was true, why even bother to be open/answer the phone? Also, how hard is it to LEARN how to make the sandwiches? We gave them the benefit of the doubt that maybe it was a fluke or they were just having an off night and tried to order again tonight. I called in an order, spoke to a woman who needed me to repeat my order a couple of times, and was then told that our order would be delivered in 45 minutes to an hour. Okay, no big deal, maybe she was new, and maybe they were busy(it was 6:45). An hour and a half later, still no sandwiches. I called back, spoke to a really nice guy, who told me my order never came through/was processed. I told him I spoke to a woman on the phone, and he then calls back to(presumably) the woman I spoke to. I hear their conversation, and she tells him she wrote the order down… that was all she did. My guess, this is the same woman my husband spoke to and she failed to pass the order on to «the people who make the sandwiches». The nice guy told me that«due to how busy we were, your order got lost, I’m sorry. Do you still want it?» I said no, and that it clearly wasn’t due to them being busy, it was due to human error and one of their employees being an idiot. We’re officially done dealing with this place. Now we’re motivated to make the trip up to Burlington to get delicious sandwiches from Potbelly’s more often. I guess there is always a bright side.

This is my favorite place to get a sandwich on Boston Ave(there are many options!). They have free peanuts in the shell, which is so cool. They employees have usually been pretty nice. I’m giving it 3 stars because when I walked in at 3PM, the only employee in the store was asleep in his chair behind the counter. And not just dozing– this dude was out cold. Needless to say I decided to eat elsewhere.

I’ve been going to Tasty Gourmet since attending Tufts just nearby. I have never been disappointed with a meal. I usually go for a simple turkey club with fries and because it’s awesome I pretty much get it there every single time. The guys working there are always pleasant and chatty, which I like. Plus when I went there for the first time a few months back after moving back to the area — I noticed they now have peanuts available while you wait for your food. Score — I love free stuff. ;) I have only had delivery a couple times, but you do have to make sure you are in there delivery area before placing an order. I am right on the cusp of where they deliver so sometimes I felt delivery took longer than necessary. BUT, food was always nice and warm when it arrived.

Hey Jerks!!! QUITTHECOMPLAINING! 1. WATCHTHEFOODNETWORK! IFYOUHAVEANISSUEWITHGLOVES. No one wears gloves when they prep the ‘gourmet’ food that is presented on any or every show! PLUS i still can’t find a better sandwich place than this !! Al’s is boringly plain, like a Subway. Sam LaGrassa’s is so overrated and generic, i can make each sandwich and side myself! Who cares the If the guy here has ‘tude it means he can back up the product! So, as a Tuftonian, still living in Boston, I make a 30 min trek for a sandwich, don’t dis this place!

Are you the kind of person who enjoys irritable gentlemen bare-handing fixings into your sandwich? Do you like getting glared at if you’re not quite sure yet what you want to order but plainly aren’t in line, so watch it with the pressure? Do you like sandwiches bigger than your face, mayo-drenched sides, and a menu comprised of about a zillion different ethoi? Are you a Tufts student? If you answered«no» to one or more of these questions, go elsewhere.

Been meaning to try this place from the reviews I’ve read. After going to Hillside Hardware(plug for them) I walked next door. Overwhelmed by all of the sandwiches and then all of the sides they offer with said sandwich I asked the older man behind the counter(owner?) to surprise me. Very happy with his decision. Only two things that were wrong. One was the macaroni salad was had too much mayo and not enough green olives but that is a personal preference of mine. Two was I didn’t ask him what concoction he actually gave me. lol… From what I can see and taste it is a spicy turkey club panini with onions, lettuce and cheese. Bonus points for the onions being grilled and not raw and the panini bread grill marks very noticeable which means it was grilled all of the way through. I couldn’t decipher what type of cheese it was but it was yummy none the less. Definitely will give it another try next time I’m in the area. Boars Head Products used. MOREBONUSPOINTS!
