First let me state that this review is for the Medford location ONLY.
I called on a Friday and asked if they could install an exhaust system on my truck. The man on the phone was very nice and said they sure can do this for me. He then told me that they are open the next day (Saturday) and that they open at 8am. He said if I was there at 8, I’d be first on the lift. I showed up at 8 and a nice young man informed me that there were 2 cars left over from the day before and that I would have to wait. I requested that they give me a call before the lift was open and I would come back. They called me at 9:30 and I was there by 9:50. When I arrived I was greeted by the owner who told me another car showed up in that time frame. I asked him what happened and he very rudely told me that they are first come first serve and that he wants be out of there by 1pm. He wasn’t even there at 8am. I asked him who I spoke to on the phone and he just kept telling me that he’s the owner. This guy is a little weasel who doesn’t deserve anyone’s business. I went to another Lou’s custom exhaust in Lynn and they got me right on the lift and I was out of there in an hour and a half. They were also very courteous and the shop was much larger and cleaner. They also had triple the staff on site.

Referred to Lou’s in Medford Saturday morning, truck repaired and out the door by 10am today! EXCELLENT SERVICE by Dennis & Crew, saved me over $$$$ on a quote by Midas (Bloodsuckers).
If your looking for an honest business, this is the place!

None of the parts they use on your exhaust will last. My muffler from Lou’s was good for about a year and the flex lasted maybe 1 year. The welds were sloppy as well on the work they did, as pointed out by my Saab mech.
If you try to save money and use these guys, you will likely end up saving more in the long run with more frequent exhaust repairs.

If your car does not pass inspection, this is the place to go. I was told by another mechanic that I had to replace most of my exhaust system because of the location of the hole in the exhaust pipe under my car. I was given a quote for $ 1700. Um, my car is worth about $ 3500. It seemed ridiculous to me that there was no possible patch for the exhaust.
Then one of my friends [fortunately] told me to go to Lou’s and they would «hook me up» with a patch. I have to admit that the guys who work here could use some customer service lessons. I’m scrappy, so I don’t care about their attitude. After I joked around with them, they did in fact totally hook me up with a patch for $ 60. These guys saved me a ton of money.

I did my research before I went to Lou’s. I have mechanics in my family and the upcharge to women customers is an unfortunate reality. So I knew pretty much what I needed when I got there as I’ve done a lot of work on my car myself and have a clue what I’m talking about. The price was decent and they had the part and the lift right there. Towards the end of an otherwise positive experience, however, one of the mechanic’s became completely condescending with me. I asked a very simple question about my cooling fans, and he put his hand on my shoulder and said: «You don’t know enough about cars, honey. Ask your brother.» This review would have been five stars, but Lou’s needs to consider hiring mechanics who know their demographic and get with 2015. The entire Medford/​Somerville area is full of female cosumers who don’t appreciate being talked down to.

This review is long over due as I’ve been going to this place for years. Their prices are so low I dont even know how they stay in business! I damaged my exhaust during this last blizzard and got a quote from Meineke for 800 dollars because they are close to my work. Lou’s did the same exact job for 300 bucks and I was there for less than two hours. Plus, I didn’t even have an appointment and just showed up at 8:00 in the morning. They said the job would have been finished even sooner, but they had to let my exhaust cool off before beginning to work on it.
They’re fast, beyond affordable and do great work!

These guys are great. They have provided me with consistently dependable, creative, and affordable service. Finding a mechanic whom i trust to help me understand whats going on with my car, and whom i trust to efficiently and successfully address and solve the given problem, has been tough as i move around a lot, but I have found them, and they are in medford! If you have heard from your dealer ship or another mechanic that your exhaust needs replacing, go to Lou’s first (the one down in stoughton is awesome too) these guys are creative and were able to help me find a much more affordable alternative to replacing my the whole exhaust system.

I went to Lou’s (in Medford) for the first time. It was an all round positive experience… affordable, stuck to their quote, didn’t take too long… A bit hard to find, even with GPS

Had a great experience. I went with my two year old son, and the owner was courteous to both of us, and the cost was $ 500 less than my normal mechanic’s estimate (and my mechanic has very reasonable prices).

First of all let me say that I have been a customer of Lous Custom Exhaust for the last 8 years, and have had the pleasure of using their Plymouth location for the majority of these years. All of my experiences there have been great.
Fast forward a year or two and i’m living in Everett, Ma and have a stripped oxygen sensor hole on my catalytic converter (Ford Focus SVT).
I called Lous, as always, and explained the issue I was having, they told me to come right on down and they would take care of it. This was great.
I arrived at Lous, to be met at the door by two of the techs working there, who then asked me if oxygen sensor was on the catalytic converter. I said «Yes, that’s what we discussed on the phone».
I was then told that because it was on the catalytic converter, there was nothing they could do for me, other than replace the entire system… at a cost of hundreds of dollars.
Pretty terrible service, to tell me on the phone that they can take care of it, and then upon arrival tell me there’s nothing they can do without even looking at the car. At no point did they leave the reception area to look at my car, at no point did they put it on a lift, they were completely useless.
I left and drove to a small gas station near my house, where the mechanic re-​tapped the threads on the catalytic converter for $ 75.
Don’t use this location, it’s a waste of your time.

I have been trying to set something up with not only this lou’s, but other lou’s in the area for a few weeks now. Their hours are impossible to work with, and the barley literate staff is rude and knows nothing about cars. I went in to the lou’s in medford about 15 minutes before they closed to get some estimates and ideas as to what i should do with the exhaust on my Audi. I straight up told the guy price was no issue i was willing to spend whatever to get what i want. The workers wanted absolutely no part in my business. Being the only lou’s that is open on saturday (because i work every weekday like a normal person) i decided to used the Medford location anyways, despite the issue i had when i stopped by. I just called store to let them know the parts that i will need for my car because i would be stopping in on saturday to get the job done, and surprisingly enough i got the owner on the phone. He was even worse than the workers i had previously encountered. He told me if i did’nt bring my car in tomorrow, i would need to wait weeks before they could even begin to work on my car and he was acting like he was doing me a favor by working on my car when realistically if i had a welder i could do the job myself. I just called Exclusive Custom Exhaust in Roxbury, the owner was super helpful and knowledgable and they have hours to fit every schedule. Lou’s needs a course in customer service because they are missing out on my business, and hopefully the business of people reading this review.

This is the first time I was yelled at by a business owner before I even entered the business. I rolled up in my car looking for exhaust work to be performed and wanted to make sure that they had space and time to do it so I put on my flashers for one second and rolled down my windows to hear a worker (or manager) yelling «!@#$ don’t park there!» I explained that all i wanted to know was if they had time for some work and didn’t want to park my car and then have to move it again just to roll into the shop.
Horrible experience and I didn’t even need to experience their actual work. I would never let anyone touch my car unless I truly needed the work done elsewhere.

My old 4Runner has been in dire need of a new muffler for a while. The last one I put on there was over 9 years old, and I don’t play too nice with my truck. Granted, the hole in the exhaust gave her an interesting sound, it was hurting my performance. Having a 4 cylinder engine pushing an SUV, you need every little pony you can to keep the thing driving well.
I did some research and found what kind of muffler would work best for my kind of engine. I went over to Lou’s and talk it over with one of the mechanics there. He made some good suggestions on what to go with to accomplish what I was looking for. The quote came out to right about what I was looking for, having priced it out in my head before going in.
They did the work quickly, and cleanly. The muffler and pipe look great, and sound great. Best of all, my powerband feels much better. The staff were very helpful, and very friendly.
This place had the small family owned mechanic feel to it, so expect somewhat inconstant hours. I’ve been to this kind of shop before, and know that you need to communicate with them before hand, and they are typically pretty accommodating. I had talked to them earlier in the day, and knew that they closed at 1600, despite the website saying 1700, no skin off my back, if I couldn’t work it, I would go somewhere else. I was getting out of work a bit later than I wanted, and they stayed late to get me a quote. Being late, they let me leave my girl in the bay, and worked on her first thing in the morning, calling when they were done.

Lou’s came highly recommended by a few friends in the car business. Knowing the lady’s name at the front desk helps too. I walked in, name dropped, gave her my keys and walked home a mile away. 30 minutes later I get the call with the diagnosis, give the ok to fix it and an hour later I’m walking back to get my car. Not as cheap as I had hoped but not as expensive as most other places. And now my car passed inspection. YAY! Thanks Lou! Other reviews talk about poor service from the men who work there. I had no interactions with any of them, only Roberta who was very pleasant. But I do know how to speak mechanic talk and normally don’t piss off someone who is doing a me a service and has my keys. So read the previous reviews with caution. Yes people have the right to «feel» like they have been mistreated but sometimes you need to get over yourself and give respect to get respect. I love when a lowly grease monkey controls the guy with a Mercedes. It just makes my day! lol… Anyway I have a beater car that needs to last me a couple more years and Lou’s is a perfect place to get work done…

I went to the Medford shop, and these guys are rude, as others have posted. they think there better than you attitude was ugly. I tried to tell them my situation, they could care less. bottom line they installed a very poor quality muffler, I had an idea it was crap when it was louder than the old one I had in gone in there with. low in behold one year later the thing was a pile of rust, stay away from this place, you will see no customers in this place for a good reason.

At the behest of my mechanic, I went to Lou’s yesterday. First it’s important to note that Lou’s are independently owned and operated. This review refers to the Medford location, conveniently located a mile from my house. 30 minutes after they were to have opened, I was still waiting outside. The place was locked tight. I left a message on their answering machine, a land line that I could hear on the other side of the door.
A few moments later a plow truck pulled in and two gents grumpily lumbered out. The short squat one was steaming. The other sublimating his bosses anger… They barely acknowledged me at the door. I followed them in. The little angry one went into the garage area and screamed, «F@%^&!!!» hopped in a car and peeled out. This is the grown man that owns the establishment. The other fellow shuffled back and forth and looked at his shoes. I was in the land of the invisible. Good to make extra money plowing, but not at the expense of your business.
I looked at the poor bastard left behind for a few moments. I thanked God I wasn’t him, and decided my money would be best spent elsewhere. I left and drove well out of my way to the Lou’s in Waltham. The experience in Waltham could not have been more disparate. Check back for that review.

I used to work as an apprentice in a custom exhaust shop when I was younger and I have to say Lou’s Custom Exhaust has some knowledge workers. They may come off as arrogant at times but they know their stuff and did a great job with my exhaust. I had ordered an aftermarket system and they were very honest and forthright with information everyone should know when getting an aftermarket system put on a car. I knew most of the specifics before going in and I was pleased when they didn’t lie to me or give me some BS. If the dealership has told you need to replace your catalytic converter, try Lou’s first they may be able to help you fix your car and save you some money in the process.

Went upon recommendation from CarZone to fix an exhaust leak. The guys at CarZone told me it’d be around $ 60 and sure enough, I was quoted and charge exactly that. The whole affair took 45 minutes, and this was with waiting around 20 min for the car before me. Quick and painless!

Went in there on a sat to ask some questions about getting the exhaust upgraded on my car the person there didnt seem interested in helping me instead of taking a few minutes to give me an idea of what i can do he told me to go do some homework and come back once i had an idea even though i told him when i first walked in there that I didnt know where to begin and i had come there for some advice
