Went for the first time last night for ½ off sushi. Can’t believe we haven’t been before! It was busy, but our waiter was great, the atmosphere is nice, and the sushi was good. Will be back for sure :)

Ordered takeout on Friday night at 8:00 pm. 30 – 45 minute wait. Arrived at the bar to pick up order. Bartender was quick and attentive. Place was packed! Ordered a broccoli beef with fried rice(cost extra) and shrimp lo mein. Also ordered a spicy philly roll substitute cucumbers for avocados. Very good but very thin. There were 6 slices but for the money they are rolled too thin. Everything was good and accurate! Visited again on a Saturday night before Mothers Day. No wait. Great food and service was spot on! I got 2 Sushi rolls with side of fried rice. We got pan fried potstickers OMG! Hubby got beef and broccoli with fried rice and wonton soup. I really wish they had Chinese tea like in the teapots!!!

Hands down the BEST Asian cuisine in Mechanicsville. The food is always fresh, the staff knows their dishes, and the happy hour and daily specials are not too shabby either. They are very accommodating and welcoming of families(including our little one). My husband and I regularly go for ½ priced sushi night(and we aren’t just talking half price California rolls folks… they actually have salmon, tuna etc in there ;)). They have a DELICIOUS General Tso’s shrimp dish and their soups are equally delicious too! They have a half price Ap night where you can have a cheap date night of aps and a happy hour bar special and leave stuffed! Give it a try, you will not regret it!

When Gingered first open it was amazing! The food now is average. I’m not sure if it’s a new chef or they just got too busy but it’s not the same!

Very nice secret in Mechanicsville. Been here for a few years now but more a local spot. The owners are very progressive and make it know they want to be more than just another Asian reaturant. Constantly trying to do better and offer diverse food that is not the norm. Very upbeat jazzy reaturant with light jazz playing in the background. Great drink menu and sushi menu has plenty of choices. It’s more of an Asian fusion type of spot.

I’ve been here three times. Food is outstanding. Service is friendly and generally fast. Servings are large and the food is fresh. You can really taste the difference between this fresh made to order food and«fast» Chinese food. Hands down best Chinese food in Mechanicsville.

I’ve been going here for years and it’s always good! The service can be a little slow(it’s hit or miss) but my husband don’t really mind here. The food is worth it and we love supporting local places. I’ve both dined in and had it delivered. I won’t call anywhere else for Asian take out. Red sangria is a must try. Favorites include sushi, panang curry with chicken, lo mein, black pepper steak noodles, honey crispy shrimp, Thai lettuce wraps, and crab ragoon!

NOTVEGETARIANFRIENDLY I enjoyed my tofu dish, but would have enjoyed it more if I could have had it as it was supposed to be prepared. This place is NOTVEGETARIANFRIENDLY. Veggie dishes are cooked in chicken stock. You can get some modified… but I am sure it is not the same. Service was great and our wait staff went out of her way to make sure we got veggie friendly food. I recommend for non– vegetarians.

Delicious food. Great service. Seriously the food is amazing. Sushi menu is small but they still have a decent selection. Will go back! :)

I ordered the chicken with broccoli, very little broccoli and the chicken was chopped into tiny cubes. Buried in too much heavy sweet sauce. Husband ordered the sesame chicken which was all breading and sauce very little chicken, inedible in our opinion. Fried rice was not good either I don’t know how to describe it except to say we couldn’t eat that either. Margarita okay and beer good.

The second best restaurant in Mechanicsville. Good selection, love the lettuce wraps. Skip the sushi(dug, it IS Mechanicsville), otherwise we have enjoyed every menu item we have tried!

Simply put, Ginger Red is Asian Fusion done right. This little strip shopping center location is surprisingly upscale once inside, complete with modern décor, professional lighting, and a waterfall wall. I went with the general tso’s chicken, and it was perfect. Beautiful, real white meat with just the right amount of breading. The delicious sauce balanced all the flavors you look for from our good friend Mr. Tso. I had initially debated between ordering General Tso’s vs. the Srira Chicken, which looked beautiful. A friend went with the Srira, and after sampling some of their plate, I could rest easy with my decision. The Srira chicken was certainly tasty, but it was a little too sweet for me. I could see a whole plate being difficult to finish, and come to think of it, I bet this is why said friend was passing out end of meal samples. In the end though, our table ordered a wide range of dishes from Asian countries all over the map, and everyone left with positive comments about their food. The true mark of a good Asian fusion restaurant.

My humble census designated place(CDP) of Mechanicsville never ceases to amaze me. A new restaurant opens up and you think it’s going to rock your socks off. It ends up being the stuff of nightmares and you wonder if things could have gone any worse. Other restaurants, which have been a staple of excellence, end up going right off the rails like some beautiful train wreck. Ginger Red is a lovely gem of a place tucked snugly behind the battery store. I went here consistently in 2007 and then, like other places, it went off the rails. Ginger Red was put in time out for about six years. Then I decided enough time had passed and it was time to give Ginger Red it’s deserved second chance. I’m glad I did. The atmosphere was lovely and enchanting. The wait staff is professional and inviting. I had a craving for Singapore Noodles and this was the only Unilocal approved spot for this dish. My lady love ordered the Pad Thai noodles and gave that dish top praise. I found the flavor profile of the Singapore Noodles to be spot on. However, I did think the amount of Curry powder dried out the noodles something fierce. This dish is BEGGING for a huge glob of butter to wet it down. I don’t think butter would detract from the flavors but rather enhance them. Google image search this dish to see what I mean. If they can wet down this dish with butter or light cooking oil it will help immeasurably. My dining experience here was excellent. The lettuce wrap appetizers were nice and the wonton soup hit the spot. I enjoyed my visit so much I went back just a few weeks later. Sadly, I can’t get behind the Singapore noodles anymore. It’s just too darn dry. The flavor is bold and nice but it’s just way too dry. Did I mention portion size? Ginger Red hooks you up big time. You will not go home hungry. Well done Ginger Red! Welcome back to the fold.

Delicious! This is a great local gem. Such a calming and comfortable environment and delicious food. I had pad Thai and Jesse had snow peas and bbq pork. The frozen green tea is wonderful as is the passion fruit tea. The staff is super friendly and service is quick and right on the money. The dessert coffees don’t skimp on spirits!

My first time trying this place on recommendation from a co-worker. From the outside, it just seems like a normal building, but inside, the owners have really made the place their own. While it doesn’t scream Brio’s level of décor, it certainly does give a much more upscale feel. The great big window in between the food prep and the patron’s tables is a big plus that works in their favor, offering privacy and a dedicated food prep area, while still feeling open and welcoming. They do have a tiny bar so I wouldn’t come here for the bar, and it isn’t really set up to be that way anyway. Although I DO like the separate spacing they have for the bar area and sit-downs. They have daily specials, lunch specials, and then more specials on top of that. What else can you ask for when trying a new place? I would have ordered more food but seeing as how I had to work in the afternoon following lunch, I didn’t want to eat so much I was sleepy. The Vietnamese summer rolls were great, and the price can’t be beat. I wonder if they would venture into making their own peanut sauce though, as I have never been a fan of the too sweet stock preanut sauce. The wonton soup was refreshing, but I imagine others might consider it a bit bland. I like my food on the less salty side so this worked very well for me. I judge a place by their Pad Thai, very childish of me. If you can get the spices right, I am a fan for life. So far, the best Pad Thai I have had is at Thai Flavors in Innsbrook, where everything is cooked right in view of patrons. With that being said, Ginger Red’s Pad Thai couldn’t top Thai Flavors, but the extra spicy chili paste the waitress so graciously brought out to me added a kick I needed. I took home some more summer rolls and will certainly be back to try more menu items. The waitress was absolutely friendly, the management team aware of their patrons, and did I already mention the deals they have in this place? That alone should prompt you to at least come and give it a whirl.

Ok, went back. Food still over the top good. The waitress didn’t hit the mark(disappeared too long to often, didn’t refill water EVER) but the food definitely hit it. Started out with the Spider Crab Roll. This was basically as soft shell crab roll and it was fantastic. I had a Sangria(red) while my wife had the Sangria(white). Very tasty in these entertainingly tall glasses. It was fun and very good. For dinner I had the Crispy Walnut Shrimp. It had a sweet chili sauce that was kind of orangy/citrus sweet sauce and is now my go to food. It was sweet, crunchy and really went well with the fried rice(that looked a LOT like brown rice to me). I could do the same exact meal a hundred times, but think I better expand myself next time. My wife had the Hawaiian Seafood Fried Rice(shrimp, talapia, scallops, and a crab stick). She really enjoyed it a lot. I was stuffing my face too much with mine to even contemplating how to share. Maybe I should do better next time…).
