My family tried take out from Yans. We are new to the area and exploring. The pork chow mien had no flavor, little pork but plenty of pork fat and grit. The shrimp in the shrimp fried rice were past their expiration date an not edible. The rice also had no flavor. The sweet And sour chicken was: hard to find the chicken fried in oil that was rancid. We will never return and alert our extended family to stay away.

Yan’s is not the best Chinese I’ve ever had, but it’s decent, and there is always a lot of it. Most of the menu tends toward fried foods, as there is heavy fried breading on shrimp, chicken, egg rolls, and anything else that can go into the deep fryer. Their noodle dishes are delicious, and do bring a lighter note to your meal. Service is always on point. You can’t really go wrong with a meal here, but it will probably never be the most memorable meal you’ve had. But it will definitely hit the spot if you’re hungry.

Been coming here for years and the service keeps getting worst. They keep messing up my take out order time and time again! Don’t come here!!!

I would not recommend this place. Although they put on the appearance of nicities, the only time they checked on us was when the bill was due. Otherwise, we had to track them down for refills and other items. At one point, I asked her for a refill and she forgot three times that I reminded her. Unless you are dying of hunger, I’d go else where.

Food is good. But I order a coke, never get it and she never checks up on us. When we flag another waitress she is very helpful but the other one we never see until the end. Never will go back unless things change.

I have been coming to Yan’s approximately 3 times a year for the last four years. It’s nothing special but it’s good enough when I’m in the mood for Chinese food. Today the service was sub-par and left me extremely disappointed. I arrived and was seated promptly. I reviewed the menu and knew what I wanted pretty quickly so I sat down my menu hanging off the table a little to signal that I was ready to order. I was seated for about 15 minutes and was literally getting up to leave and go somewhere else when the waitress came over and apologized profusely alleging that she wasn’t told that I had been seated. I placed my order for my meal and a coke. The food was very prompt but my first coke didn’t arrive until the waitress dropped off the bill and cookie after I was approximately 1⁄3 of the way through my plate. I wasn’t the only person in the restaurant that felt that the service was lacking as the couple at the table next to me made it a point to discuss the poor service at a volume that could be heard halfway across the restaurant. This, surprisingly enough, didn’t get the attention of the wait staff either. After I finished eating I waited approximately 20 minutes and finally asked another waitress if I could get a to-go box for my leftovers. She brought me a box and she took my bill and credit card. She sent my card and the slip that I needed to sign back to me through a busser. I noticed that I had either gotten overcharged or they started charging six dollars for a soda. Since I couldn’t seem to get the attention of my waitress, who was MIA after dropping off my coke and bill, I explained what I had ordered and what my bill should’ve been to another waitress. She confirmed that I was overcharged and got me the difference in cash. I wish I would’ve walked out before I had ordered.

We were hoping to have a good meal here but it was the worst Chinese food we have gotten since moving to Portland. We ordered chicken fried rice, no taste. The walnut shrimp was made with some sort of mayonnaise base that was way to over powering. The cashew nut chicken and moo shu pork was so so. The vegetable lo mein was the only thing our kids would eat. The worst part of the meal was the egg roll. The egg roll was fried a second time in some sort of flower based covering to try and hide the fact that it was old and over fried. Never have I had such a terrible egg roll. The cost of the dishes are overpriced too. This meal literally made me sad and I can’t believe this establishment is still in business.

We just moved to McMinnville and asked several locals their favorite Chinese spots. Seems like people were pretty evenly split between this place and Chan’s. I’m really hoping that Chan’s is better. Aside from the fact that my take out order was wrong(or their sesame chicken looks and tastes exactly like their sweet and sour chicken) it was also the most bland, over fried and syrupy Chinese food I’ve ever had. We probably had four bites each before deeming it unworthy of further consumption.

We are accustomed to excellent, authentic Asian food, but Yan’s cuisine was mediocre Americanized Chinese food. It was recommended to us by a local business person so we thought we’d give it a try. The service was inattentive and slow. We do not plan to eat at this establishment again.

Let me start by saying I have been satisfied with the quality of this food since I’ve been ordering, but that’s not enough for me, especially when every time I takeout, something is forgotten. Management is very rude about you asking for something as small as a couple sides of hot oil to go with your meal if you didn’t ask for it while placing your order. I waited nearly 10 minutes before asking another worker for these items on one visit. … I miss Dragongate

Worst Chinese take out ever. I’m not some food snob, and have fairly low expectations for this type of food. But this went well below the low set bar. The egg rolls were disgusting mush inside and appeared to have been dipped in batter a refried… like someone was trying to use old leftovers and re fry them to make them crispy again. Bad idea. Everything else was gloppy and tasteless. We will not return. No way. Absolutely not.

Went here for the first time tonight when our«normal» place was closed for remodeling. Surprisingly good food. Not gourmet but good. Service was great, servers friendly and efficient. Prices reasonable, large servings!

«Good food, good price» Good food, good service — maybe a little slow, prices are reasonable. I personally do not like to sit in the large area with tables due to it echos with all the customers(kids). Any of the booth seating is good. They do have a bar, but, I’ve never sat in it. Sometimes the food is a lot to eat if you order the full dinners. My wife and I share a meal,(#4 with egg flower soup &BBQ pork $ 11), and unless you’re real hungry, splitting an order is what I recommend. Most of the servers are very friendly and willing to accommodate.

Why do the Chinese restaurants in McMinnville, Oregon think they have to cover everything in panko batter & fry it?! Who does that to an egg roll?! This is the«sister» restaurant to Yen’s in Tigard, OR(which has fantastic food) so we decided so must Yan’s here in McMinnville. WRONG! Ordered dinner for 4 which cost almost $ 60 and most of it went in the trash the next day. Best Chinese food in McMinnville, Oregon is PANDAEXPRESS!

My husband and I were starving and were craving Chinese. Looked at the reviews and decided to try this place out. When we walked in they sat us immediately, it was nice and calm and the wait staff was nice. I ordered the #5 while my husband had #7. Yummy but a little dry with the rice, I was glad thought to not have our food covered in grease. There was so much food that my husband and I ended up taking half our lunch home. The prices are very reasonable for how much food you receive. We are defiantly going back for more.

So let’s be clear, this is not where you go for authentic or exquisite Chinese food. This is where you go for the mildly Americanized Chinese food we all know and love. For that this place is almost flawless– Cheap combo diners and lunch specials. Huge portions. Great BBQ pork and excellent crab puff appetizers. Relatively consistent service and you never have to wait long. After a while the staff get to know you and will return your loyalty with free appetizers and goodies. There is plenty of space, and a sort of banquet room in the back– and beware the locals will use these for gatherings and parties from time to time! I am a local and this is the best Chinese in McMinnville by far. If there were a better range of authentic dishes I would give this 5 stars but for what they do, they do it very well.

I’ve been here for dinner several times now. I’ve always ordered off the combo plate menu. Beef and broccoli is good, so is the sweet and sour pork. I’ve always got large portions here. Service is good too. Bonus, they have a sports bar/lounge in the back.

I tend to intrinsically distrust«Chinese» restaurants that serve saltine crackers with egg flower soup. I also distrust places where the server can’t identify anything on the menu that they would recommend. «It’s all pretty good here» is faint praise at best. The rest of the experience tended to match my first impressions. I got the Kung Pao Chicken combo dinner, because it was the menu item my server identified as the preferred by people who like spicy things. Part of the combo was fried rice, which was pretty bland. Another part of the combo was Sweet and Sour Pork, which was barely sweet or sour, and reminded me why I don’t go out of my way to order this dish. Kung Pao Chicken was OK. All in all, the dinner was OK. The portions were good-sized, but if you’re looking for anything exceptional you’re probably in for a disappointment. On the plus side, the do have Black Butte Porter along with the standard pale lagers you’ll find in most Chinese restaurants. The wait-staff was pleasant and efficient, if a bit distracted. The quality of service was sort of like the quality of the food.
