Baylor Medical Center at McKinney

Don’t go here. I’d rehash my long drawn out horror story of why not but, lets just say, if you value your time, money and sanity this is NOT the place to seek care. The ER physicians here aren’t exactly the gold standard. If you don’t absolutely, totally, have to go here, don’t.

If you get a nurse by the name cavelle request another nurse. She is a total bitch, disrespectful, and starts problems.

AVOID!!! Dr. Harris in the ER, sent mom home, later to find out she had a fractured spine!!! He refused to listen to her and do CT scan to find out what was causing the pain, told her to do therapy. All this was after a fall and couldn’t walk, please be careful if you go here!!!

Let me preface this review by saying I’m married to an ER RN.
I was transferred to this hospital from a Baylor freestanding ER via ambulance for a ruptured cyst that was causing blood to fill my belly. I was in the obs unit for about 36 hours. My first nurse was fantastic. Her name is Cris. She’s this young tiny Asian who got stuff done. When I was transferred to that unit, the MD ordered a PCA pump for me, but didn’t specify which medicine. Cris told me this and said she was going to try and find the attending to see which medicine he wanted in there. She came back after a few minutes and said no one picked up the phone, but she left a message. She kept apologizing and telling me how bad she felt for me. She left my room and came back after a few minutes holding a syringe and told me she was still unable to get a hold of the attending, but she got a hold of his father who is a MD there. I couldn’t believe she went to that length for me. The entire time Cris kept me informed about what was going on and treated me like I was her VIP patient. Then her shift was over.
My new nurse was Ramona. She was the complete opposite of Cris. She was unhelpful, condescending, and terrible at her job. Twice she took the clave off my IV and forgot to clamp the line which resulted in blood spewing down my arm and onto the sheets. The first time I pointed at my blood that was coming out and told her she might want to clamp that and the second time she walked away before I got the chance to tell her so my wife came running over to clamp it. Every time I pressed the nurse call button (when my line was leaking), it took her over 15 minutes to get back to me. One time no one even responded. My wife told me every time she went to walk around, my nurse was just sitting there. She also repeatedly told me she didn’t know what the MD wanted and asked me what he said. When I was discharged, she told my wife to get the car ready and she would come get me and wheel me out in a wheelchair. Needless to say, she forgot me so I had to walk out on my own. She also informed me during discharge of the medicines I would receive. One of them was for pain and is a triple script medicine, which means it has to be a written prescription. She told me the MD would call it into the pharmacy. Since we’re from CO where the laws are different, we didn’t question this. When we got to the pharmacy to pick up the medicine, the pain medicine wasn’t there. My wife called her and she told us «how can the doctor call in a triple script medicine»? You tell me. YOU’RE the nurse who said he could. My wife was angry by this point and asked to speak to the charge nurse. Turns out, she IS the charge nurse.
I give Cris five stars, but Ramona deserves negative stars.

Had my son here a few days ago, can’t say I’m all that pleased. First of all i had to get an epidural TWICE. The first time was traumatic enough, and after starting to cry the anesthesiologist actually had the nerve to tell me to stop. They told me that the medication went to one side and kept shifting my position for hours until I couldn’t bear the pain any longer and they told me they had to do it again. I got no pain relief the second time either. Also, nurses took a long time to come into the room after being buzzed and sometimes didn’t come at all. and when it was time to be discharged I waited almost an hour for a wheelchair. When my husband went to see what was going on they lifted a finger in the air and told him to wait. There were a couple of nurses who were fabulous but it was not enough to make coming here worthwhile. Wish I could have been treated better because this was my first child and I was already scared and anxious enough. Definitely not having anymore children delivered here.

My daughter in law went into labor and this was the hospital she had to come to.
So many complaints.
First of all the medication that was to be administered into her IV was dripping onto the floor.
The nurses on this floor were extremely loud and having a great time. And it’s after midnight.
The hospital is nice and clean.
But what a waste of time to have so many nurses on duty. And being loud.
Really annoying.

My wife was discharged from one of the other hospitals in town, because her symptoms weren’t too bad and she would «have to deal with the pain». We came over here for a second opinion and she had acute appendicitis! They got her in to surgery and took care of the issue within 3 hours! All of the doctors and nurses we dealt with were fantastic. The nurse also got my cell number and kept me updated through the process via text and calls — this was anesthesia, procedure, and recovery. If I ever need medical help, I’m coming here!

their er doctors don’t know what to do

I would like to thank Baylor McKinney for the great care I received after an auto accident. The emergency room nurses and doctor were so kind and caring. The intake supervisor was the best. I also had to contact billing at a later date. They also were helpful. Thank you, Baylor McKinney! I place my total trust in you.

My wife and I just had our first child at this hospital and our experience was awesome!
When you first walk through the doors, in the main hospital, the décor is beautiful. It looks like a very high end hospital… and it surely is. Between all of the nurses, techs, doctors, they are all very friendly and do an amazing job at making you feel comfortable your entire stay. They are more than happy to help you with any need or question that may come up. Dr Brock Pierce delivered our baby and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice of doctor. He is super friendly, down to earth, and explains everything to you in terms you can understand (not just medical jargon).
For a hospital, their food is actually very good. They have a café located on the bottom floor, from which the mother and father, are included in 3 meals a day. They have a nice selection to choose from on their menu.
From the time we walked through the doors, to when we were finally discharged, we couldn’t have had a better experience for our first pregnancy. We will surely be coming back here again for our next child.

I love Baylor Mckinney. I had several scares throughout my pregnancy and the ward was awesome in taking care of me and easing my mind. They delivered my baby and offered exceptional care during my stay (I cried when it was time to go home). The hospital is very very clean and sterile. We had an ER visit that went very well. the ER physicians were very respectful and helped take care of our issues. This is the only hospital in the are we will go to.

Never again will I bring a family member or friend. My husband went to the ER with sever neck pain. He is a professional rarely sick and takes very good care of himself. After being told he had arthritis and given a load of pain medication they sent him on his way. We questioned whether or not he should be given blood tests or look into another tests that might answer some questions he was having. Next day still sick went to the urgent care on Hardin and Eldorado where the doctor was amazing and would not stop until he figured out what was wrong. He ordered the right tests and saved my husbands life. My husband is having surgery for a blocked carotid artery. All I see when in the ER at Baylor is a bunch of useless rude employees. Never again!
When I called to tell the ER doc what happened he would not come to the phone sent his rude charge nurse Ellen to listen to what happened. She had no empathy and was a real jerk. They all deserve to work together. Hope other people read this and go elsewhere.

My boyfriend and I were in the ER a few days ago for an abscess on his gum line. Everyone there was incredibly friendly and we were in and out within an hour and a half. Dr. Trent Stephenson did a wonderful job and was so helpful. He even followed up with my boyfriend a few days later, with a phone call, to make sure he was doing okay. We’ve NEVER had an ER doctor follow up with us so that kind of service blew us away. Thank you guys so much for a great experience!

This is the place to go — only if you are a new mother — otherwise, try for Baylor in Frisco for much nicer digs, way better food and caregiver meals.
Maternity ladies get a robe, slippers, a baby outfit, hot cookies each day and their husband or caregiver gets free meals.
The 23 year old girl staying for 3 days after a hysterectomy right next door– gets nothing.
Three stars for hearing about what goes on next door — Five stars for the staff!

I recently had to visit this hospital… Twice — Good times! The ER staff is super friendly, accommodating and the wait was minimal. I felt a kajillion times better after getting loaded up on IV fluids, and pain meds. Can I just say that Norovirus is a b! tch? The Doctor and nurses were all really great — At one point I was literally shivering because I was so cold, so a kind nurse came in and brought me two blankets, one that was all warm and toasty like it just came straight out of the dryer! Yeah!
Not that you get to choose who takes your blood, but if you do, ask for Lonnie! I’m petrified of needles but no lie, when I had to return for an additional blood-​work, Lonnie was in and out so freaking fast that I didn’t even feel it. No pain what-​so-​ever. [Insert «that’s what she said» joke here?]
One last tidbit: They have complimentary valet at the Medical Offices on site during normal business hours. Totally foo-​foo but oh so convenient!

The staff is wonderful! No wait and love the idea that admission/​registration is mobile and comes to you bedside. Nice!!!

New ER is nice. There was no wait and the staff is very nice.
