It’s not a Super Target which frustrates me. Mundeleins Super Target will continue to be my go to Target it looks like.

Every once in a great while, I feel the urge to browse the aisles of my local Target. I’m not under any impression that I’ll find anything great, but I like to look nonetheless. Every time I go to this Target, I remember why I’m not there more often. The employees could either give two sh*ts, are extremely rude, have no manners, or customer service skills. 9 times out of 10 they don’t say a thing to you when you walk up to check out– yet have LOADS to say to the employee at the next register, and never forget to ask if I want a Target credit card. This Target has the basics, nothing above and beyond what you’d expect to find– it actually makes me feel kind of depressed walking around it– everyone seems angry. Hey– I get it, red might not be your color– but I didn’t make you wear it!

I’ve always been a fan of Target, and this location usually doesn’t disappoint. Their selections of merchandise is pretty good, though I seem to have a more difficult time locating certain items here(i.e. wasp spray) than I do at the bigger supercenters. There can be less variety of items like furniture polish(regular spray Pledge?) and the aforementioned wasp spray(I think there was only one kind at $ 4.50+ per can). Still, they sometimes have pretty awesome deals(like 89 cents for deli mustard — my fave — a few weeks ago, and the free 2-liter of Pepsi Next I got with a coupon). The store is usually well-maintained, with even clearance areas being sized. Retail veterans know that«Clearance» is usually synonymous with«Disaster Area,» but never at this Target. I don’t think I’ve ever spied an item of clothing on the floor. Their selection is much more sparse than other Targets I’ve gone into, though. I hate walking into neighboring towns and seeing lots of different clothes that aren’t offered at the McH Target; then again, this Target is smaller in general. The staff is usually relatively friendly if you have to ask for their help, but not overly approachable nor easy to locate outside of the register and fitting room area. There are some characters, like the woman who rung up my brassieres and decided to strike up a conversation about them. At least it wasn’t a dude, though, right?

They have a pretty decent selection of clothing, probably because they don’t seem as busy as Targets closer to larger cities; however, the layout is super outdated. It’s one of those Targets with only one entrance and womens clothing is immediately there to the right and everything else makes no sense. Also, it’s one of the only Targets I’ve come across in IL that doesn’t have a booze section, so we had find someone else to get our drinks on the 4th of July. Aside from the two shirts I picked out for a friend, it was kind of a waste. I felt like figuring out where things were located was like a scavenger hunt. I shouldn’t have to guess where the different sections are. I hope they update this to a Super Target someday.

I enjoy shopping for bargains at both Target and Walmart, though Target’s usually a little trendier. That proves true at this location as well, but while in some towns the two stores«feel» the same, McHenry’s Target is leaps and bounds over the poorly stocked, cluttered, dirty Walmart. It is clean, bright and fresh, and lately, the new release DVDs are even cheaper than at Walmart. I always like the trendier, more modern style of furniture here, as well as the vast selection of picture frames. Bathrooms are maintained pretty well, and the snack bar can be nice after some power shopping.
