Big Apple Waffle and Pancake House

I was hoping for something special and I was sadly mistaken. The prices are not that great and the food quality is very poor. Everything tastes like its from a can or a bagged mix. Very disappointing. Don’t waste your time. As someone else said, go to Cracker Barrel.

A total waste of my time and money. The buffet was very poor quality. The food was bland. There wasn’t enough salt and pepper to make the food here palatable. If your into bland mush then you will love this place. Don’t waste your time or your money. If they took a little time to season the food and put some more love and care into the food this business could do well in this small town, but until then…

What can I possibly say… It looks like a nursing home and the food taste like it, so if that is your thing… go for it. I had the «special» of the day for breakfast… corned beef hash omelette. So the corned beef was finally chopped from a can and tasted like dog food. Heck maybe it was dog food because it certainly didn’t taste like corned beef. The hash-​browns, though crispy, literally had no salt on them and was a flavorless mess. I dumped 3 tablespoons worth of salt on them but that only did so much good. Lastly, the toast was hard, which makes me believe it had been sitting out for awhile. An overcooked, canned food omelette, hard toast, and flavorless hash-​browns. I guess I see why this place has turned over so many time. Do yourself a favor, just go to Cracker Barrel.

This is just the kind of place mattoon needed, a pancake and waffle house! Their staff is friendly, the prices are affordable and fair, and the food is amazing! I first time tried the denver omelet and was shocked to find out that you could substitute toast for pancakes! But I would recommend their wraps, it comes with waffle fries and the cooks aren’t afraid to put a lot of the plate. definitely a great place to eat

Don’t even bother! We tried the buffet because it was quick. I quickly realized the lack of restaurant knowledge by the lids on the buffet items. The also had a heat lamp over the food but for some reason still thought lids were necessary. The food was COLD. For some reason the tartar sauce was not chilled, but instead left on a nearby table. The fish was a frozen square fillet that you could buy in a box at walmart. The pasta was pretty much coated in tomato paste. When we informed the waitress that the food was cold she told the owner. The owner didn’t bother to address us herself. She sent the waitress back to give an excuse that customers weren’t covering the food with the lids when they were done. She wanted to know if we would like our food microwaved. I am disgusted at the lack of pride taken in the food they serve. They blamed the customers for the cold food! I feel bad for the staff that will be looking for a new job in 3 months when the word gets around town that this place is just like any other that Johnny has tried to run in that building. Not worth the price they charge for it!
