This restaurant disappointed. I’ve heard all the rave reviews and we were very excited to try! Maybe my expectations were to high… We sat at the bar and the service was excellent, the drinks were great. That’s worth 2 stars. if it was a review for just a bar I would have give it a 4… but the food… The bread basket … Well, the bread was warm but the sour dough bread didn’t taste like real homemade sourdough… Just tasted like fluffy grocery store bread with loads of dough conditioners. We ordered the fried green tomatoes. They were good but nothing super special. Certainly had better for less money at other restaurants. We ordered the house made charcuterie plate. Now that was terrible! So so terrible! No smoke or good craft aged flavor in this factory farmed pork! Just tasted like cheap sausage and processed baloney. Good charcuterie is truly a wonderful thing. This was the worst example I believe I’ve had. The condiments that came with it was the only thing that made it edible. It’s easy to see they buy cheap pork and then try to dress it up. They calm its from a Berkshire hog but the lack of marbling and flavor make me seriously doubt this claim. We had tried enough to know that we didn’t want to attempt an entrée . The atmosphere was a bit stuffy too.

The Foothills Milling Company… where to begin… without a doubt, the best meal I’ve eaten in the metro Knoxville area! The building exterior… quite plain & unassuming hides the inside gem. We were warmly greeted and seated promptly as soon as we arrived at our reservation time. The ambient lighting was perfect and a single candle on the table was lighted as we were seated. Our table had both a cloth tablecloth and cloth napkins. I love cloth napkins! The tables & booths were well spaced giving each a feeling of intimacy. It was quiet… perhaps everyone was too busy eating to talk… well we did talk… but never heard intrusive noise/chatter from other diners or the bar. Our server… I am so sorry I don’t recall her name… was unobtrusive yet warm and our service flowed perfectly. We weren’t rushed. In fact, we were there 1 ½ hrs. On to the food… we started with an amuse-bouche. It was a perfect bite served in an Asian spoon of a superb tomato soup with toppings… please don’t ask what they were! We selected the goat cheese tart as our appetizer. It was beyond sublime! You will be missing a star if you don’t try it. It was a generous size for 2 diners. I wouldn’t consider sharing it with more than 2. We could have eaten more! We had salads for our next course. My partner had the spinach salad. He loves salad and said it was delicious. I had the Caesar salad. I hate overdressed salad of any kind. It was like Goldilocks’ baby bear’s porridge… just right… with cornbread croutons. Next we had a strawberry sorbet as a palate cleanser. My partner said, «I could eat a cup of that!» And he is on a low carb diet. For our entrees, I had diver scallops with creamed greens and polenta. I HATE greens! I ate every bite of them! Does that tell you anything?! The scallops were large, had the perfect sear and were so tender… perfect…and the polenta was delicious. All the portions were generous. My partner had to try a few bites of the polenta. I suspect he could have eaten all of it, but remember that low carb diet? I offered him a scallop. but I was just being polite… and I only offered after he offered me a bite of salmon. I declined. So did he. He had as I’ve said, the salmon with mashed potatoes and green beans. I didn’t taste any of it, but he said all was delicious. The salmon did look perfectly plank cooked… moist and flakey. Alas, we left no room for dessert… next time! And neither of us drink alcohol, so I can’t comment on either. I am confident they are of the same caliber of all we did eat! Oh yes, we had a herbed bread served with a dish of melted butter. I had to restrain myself! My partner is not a descriptive type person, but I promise you he enjoyed every bite! The entire experience from food to atmosphere was delightful! As far as attire, casual… not ratty jeans casual… to formal wear is acceptable. Price $$$$…worth every penny! If your server is attentive and filling needs before you even ask, I suggest a tip over 20%. She earned it tonight! Reservations are required. For holiday times, book several months in advance. For weekends, I would call 6 weeks before or more. They are closed the week of Christmas. I think they reopen New Year’s Eve.

Such a gem. The goat cheese tart was sublime. The salmon was delish. Only wish I had room left for dessert. I will be back when in Knoxville area.

I was visiting Knoxville for a brief period and came to the restaurant with a friend, a local. It doesn’t surprise me, after a brief tour of the city and its wealth of terrible chain restaurants, that this is considered the best restaurant in town. Coming from a larger city with a better food presence, comparably, this restaurant was somewhat of a waste of money. The service was friendly but average — and the menu, while creative and promising, did not really deliver. They served an amuse bouche and a palate cleanser between courses, which seemed forced for the kind of meal we were having, as if we were pretend-playing we were in five-star restaurant in New York. I am giving five stars because the food wasn’t bad — and some of it was even good(the ham and cheese appetizer was definitely my favorite thing I tasted) — but rather because, it was O-K, and that is a stark contrast from many of the reviews you will read here.

Wow, wow, WOW! I didn’t even know this place existed. We’ve been looking for a great culinary experience in Knoxville(foodie alert). While a small drive(20 min), totally worth it! Fantastic food AND service. You are not rushed. Dinner comes out when you’re done with drinks or appetizers. Specialty drinks are unique and tasty. AND Wednesday is half price wine bottle night. Amazing surprise that night. What a superb evening. Will definitely be back to enjoy other menu items(venison and pork shoulder were both out of this world!).

I’ve had the pleasure of dining at Foothills Milling twice and both times the food was delicious and the service impeccable. In my opinion this is the best restaurant in the metro-Knoxville area!

I’m not giving them a poor rating because I was dissatisfied with my experience, I am giving a poor rating because I never actually got in to experience the restaurant at all. I am hesitant to even write this but we were extremely disappointed with what happened. It was my parents 40th wedding anniversary and I made my reservations for 6 people 2 weeks prior to my desired date. I had to leave a message and later in the day I received a call from a gentleman confirming the time and date. All was set. The day of, we arrived and was told there must have been some kind of miscommunication. I should have been told that they don’t serve parties of 6 at 6:30…only at 5:30 and 7:30…all of which were totally booked and there was no way at all that we would be able to be seated that night. However, my name was in the reservation book for 6:30 for 6 people. So no miscommunication on my part! They absolutely would not seat us. We had to leave and go somewhere else. I thought it was extremely poor business practice and I will not reserve an evening there again… nor would I suggest anyone I know to reserve a dinner there. How could I trust them to seat us once we arrived? I was also told to call the next day and they would make it right, however, they have my information and if they really wanted to make it right, they would have contacted me. Which they never did. So obviously, customer satisfaction is not as important as they would like you to think.

HOLYBAMBA! So, so surprised by this gem! I went with a group of 7 and everything was amazing including the service! Just saying the lobster tails may be one of the best things I’ve ever had! We had the charcuterie, fried green tomatoes, spring rolls, gnocchi and each one was better than the next! Next time I am in town, I will definitely be coming back! Make sure you book a reservation! They are running on a 3 month wait! But the bar is open to walk ins :)

Incredible food. Incredible service. It’s not the fastest, but if you’re looking for fast food you’re in the wrong place. This is seriously one of my top three restaurants in East Tennessee. Quite simply, the food is so good, it’s worth getting fat for.

Unilocal has the address wrong… it is 315SOUTH Washington St., not North… BUT, worth the inconvenience. An outstanding meal with great service in a nice, upscale setting.

My new favorite. The meal was simply fantastic. I ordered pork shoulder and not only could I cut it with my fork, it was perfectly seasoned. My wife loved her cobia. On top of that the service was great and the carrot cake was to die for. We will be back!

The best restaurant in East Tennessee, and an absolute must for a special food experience with your favorite people. The menu is artfully crafted and very filling; I’ve never had a meal that wasn’t exceptional. Wine list is well paired, the old fashioneds are particularly delightful, and the dessert is entirely too good to pass(even though you will likely groan at the thought of MORE good food). Two thumbs very high up.

A hidden gem in Maryville. Buried on a side street, it’s unfortunately easy to miss. Started dinner with drinks — although neither the wife or I were feeling adventurous enough to try a «menu» cocktail, the standards were done well. The wine list was small, good, and affordable. Apps were local flavor and very tasty — fried green tomatoes with goat cheese, a «quail and pancake» and fried oysters. All were good enough to want to make dinner. Dinner for me was duck two ways, both of which were cooked well and were very tasty. The star was dessert — a go-to for my chocoholic better half: molten chocolate cake. Some of the best I’ve had. Verdict: well worth the drive. We’ll be back.

Truly the best restaurant in the Knoxville area. It is located off Washington St. In Maryville. From the outside of the building you wouldn’t realize the delicious five star food on the inside. The menu changes depending on the food which is in season. My husband and I ate here for our 10 year anniversary. We waited at the bar for our table to be ready, so I started the evening with the Maryville martini. The drink was sweet lemony martini with a kick from the ginger. Once seated the experience got even better. We were brought a bite of sourdough bread topped with a lentil hummus to open up our tastebuds. Then for our appetizer was a goat cheese tart, one of the most amazing tarts to start any meal. To cleanse our palate after the appetizer was a raspberry sorbet. I ordered the lamb two ways and my husband had pork tenderloin on a bed of polenta. The lamb chops were complete ecstasy, they melted in my mouth making me completely giddy. The second lamb was bbq ribs. My husband loved his also although it was a bit spicy for me. For desert we shared a piece of cheesecake and the molten chocolate cake. I ended up eating most of the chocolate cake by myself. Overall the experience was the best food experience I have ever had! The atmosphere was upscale and the staff were southern polite.

This was a fantastic meal, hidden in Maryville! We went for my birthday celebration on a Wednesday night. When we walked in, I found the décor to be a little quaint. To be honest, I thought it might be overrated. Was I wrong! My first clue that the food was delicious was the olive oil served with the bread. Definitely high quality and light. I got the scallops with creamed corn and pesto, while my boyfriend got the duck two ways and the truffle Mac n cheese. My scallops were cooked perfectly, and his duck breast was cooked medium rare — just delicious. One of the best meals I’ve had. We ended up getting buttermilk pie to wrap up our meal, but I think we got served cheesecake instead. Whatever — it was still good. The service was attentive and helpful, but a bit slow. All in all, a fantastic — and pricey — dining experience.

I had high expectations for FM and was disappointed in some ways. The service was very good. Ice cream sorbet was a nice touch between courses as was the offering of the chef’s experiment app. We had the oyster app which was tasty. Ordered the duck 2 ways and the venison. I thought both needed more flavor and the sides of greens, truffle mac n cheese, and cheese spatzle were okay. The crème brûlée dessert and home made bread were tasty.

Menu selection was much tamer than I expected — nothing jumped off the menu as unique enough for a must try. Environment has the feel of an older upscale restaurant but you will see business, business casual, and casual attire mixed within. It’s really hard to get a read on the environment — the plus was feeling more relaxed than must high end places. My wife and I order the Fried Green Tomatoes, steak, and salmon dishes. The tomatoes were a bit under cooked but the flavors were great. Steak and salmon were both cooked and seasoned to our liking. Overall everything was really good but nothing wowed and enticed us to have to return anytime soon. If you haven’t been then you should definitely go and taste the great food.

Quite possibly one of the greatest restaurants in East Tennessee. Foothills Milling Company seems to do everything right. They treat their customers like royalty, their servers are knowledgable, the ambiance is solid. But more importantly than all of that, their food is perfection. Tons of in-house cured meats that makes one hell of a plate when they’re all combined(I highly recommend the charcuterie plate to start). We both had different salads, both of which were top notch. Entrée was equally on point. Desert, a decadent fruity ice creamy delicious treat, and every bite of our meal was good enough to lick the plate… but it’s fancy, so i fought the urge like the sophisticated gentleman that I am not. If I were to give it any sort of negative marks at all, it’d be that the décor is a little dated, but once the food starts flowing, you could be set in a barn and still be happy.

This is 100% one of my top 5 restaurants in the area. It’s so unbelievably delicious. They do such a a great job. Wait staff is always attentive and sweet. The amouse bouche’s that are presented are awesome. And, the menu changes semi often. Honestly, I wish they changed the menu a little more often, but no huge biggie. Everything they cook is perfect, and that’s all that matters. One critique — there is now a $ 20 corkage fee which a little like extortion. 20 bucks??? The little to no corkage fee was always a huge plus for me, but I’ll try and adjust…

It’s pricey, but so worth it! Tonight was my second visit to Foothills Milling, and I can’t decide which meal was better. I got salmon on my first visit, and then the venison chops tonight. Everything is delicious, from the appetizers to the potato bread served with butter. My wife got the lobster tonight but did say she preferred the salmon. Such a good restaurant… for a once-a-year type of visit.
