Planet Fitness – Martinsburg

Oh my god get better Internet the Wi-​Fi is horrible, there might as well not be any. Currently five people in the whole place and it doesn’t work, it’s always like this. I normally wouldn’t care and simply use my phone’s Internet but the signal is bad in this particular area. A simple Wi-​Fi extender would solve the problems and better Internet. I would give this place five stars if it wasn’t for that annoying factor.

I joined the week after they opened, and apparently they had some problems right before that. But as long as I’ve been going there, the staff has been very friendly, the place has been well-​maintained, and it has a been a great experience over all. $ 10 a month, and you get 24-​hour access, lots of cardio machines, 20? Nautilus machines, 5 or 6 Smith machines, and a couple of good-​sized racks of free weights and barbells (up to 60 lbs.). What you don’t get is frills, like classes or a pool.
I’m only rating 4 stars b/​c of Planet Fitness’s overzealousness about «lunks,» the meatheads you find in some gyms, who PF single out in its anti-​marketing plan. There’s an actual siren called the Lunk Alarm that goes off if someone’s acting like what they consider a «lunk» to be, like if you lower the plates too quickly while you’re using the Nautilus machine and they collide. It went off 3 — 4 times the first couple of months (no, not at me). I don’t know how much they ring the alarm these days, but it was comical and pretty unnecessary at the time. PF is aimed mainly at middle-​aged women and families, as far as I can tell, but there are plenty of young people there for the good price, and people who are more serious about exercise can get a good workout on, too.

I am not sure if the other reviews were from a different planet fitness, or maybe it was just new staff since they just opened when the other people reviewed it. I have been going to this planet fitness on queen street in martinsburg consistently every day since feb of 2014. This planet fitness is the nicest planet fitness I ever went to in my life. I am a black card member and have been to every planet fitness in the area. Some of the other ones have outdated equipment. This one has all life fitness equipment which is the same equipment golds uses. The staff is constantly cleaning and if anything is wrong with the equipment they get it fixed right away. People said about the staff not being friendly? Well this is wrong. Let’s talk about the fact that the first time I went there they all talked to me and tried to give me a tour which i declined because I just wanted to get my workout started. Every person who works there knows my name, they have the best customer service and you can tell they really care about you. This is why I haven’t left. I love this planet fitness. You should try it out, you will too.

I signed up online for the premium membership. Per the instructions online, I appeared in person to finalize my membership and get a tour. I had entered my credit card online and they already deducted my first payment.
Upon my arrival, no one greeted me when I walked in. I made my way over to the front desk and stated that I signed up online. The employee stared at me blankly and said «Umm…okay?» I had to coax him and tell him what I needed. He told me they needed a blank check and that I could walk around and look at the place. I walked around, alone, and left without anyone else speaking to me.
I went back again another day with the blank check (which I was not told was necessary online. I was prepared to get a workout in that first night) and again had to explain why I brought it. I finally was given a membership card, and walked around the main part of the gym, not the massage areas etc that I pay extra to use. I wish I never signed up for this place. I will be going back to Extreme. It is more crowded but at least the employees are friendly, helpful, and competent. You can tell they actually care about their jobs there.

I joined pre-​opening. Give us your email, the cheerful manager said, and we will let you know when we open. I did. She didn’t. I found out by word of mouth they were open. Today I received an email about the Drsnd Opening! I went by for a workout today; the bathrooms and showers are closed all weekend for «minor repairs.» The place reeks of mold. Did they send bout an email about no plumbing?
The place would get no stars for customer service. Great equipment. Reeks of mold. No plumbing, this weekend.
