We really enjoyed our recent meal, and I have a feeling we will become regulars. The staff was friendly, answered my questions and very attentive. The food was great. We had the Hot and Sour Soup, Kung Pao Shrimp and Pork Fried Rice. The prices were very reasonable and the atmosphere perfect.

Came here on a rainy friday afternoon. Was seated right away in a cushiony booth. Lunch special was still going on and it was a really good deal. I got the pork chow mein, hot and sour soup, fried egg roll and steamed rice. I ordered the fried rice initially but since it was late they were not serving it anymore. . The hot and sour soup was by far the mosy delicious. Pork chow mein also did not disappoint. Overall delicious food, friendly staff and great service.

This is my favorite Chinese food place. I don’t live in Martinez and will take the drive to come to this place. Most amazing food I’ve had! Service is so friendly they always remember our names when we come in. They also know our drink order and our usual food order. Best Chinese place around highly recommend!

I have only had take ok from here, but the place seems nice inside and has a decent size bar. All the food that I have had has been good, the hot and sour soup is really good. I think this place has become my family’s go to Chinese place in Martinez.

Would be a really nice restaurant if they didn’t have a giant tv. Food deserves 4 stars, service is good, but how can anyone have a decent date with a tv flickering in the view of every table?(Except the bar).

This place has never disappointed me, having a good location, atmosphere, excellent staff, and finger licking food makes it hard to resist such a great dinner. I have tried a multitude of dishes from Sun Flower Garden and would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves this type of food and is looking for a new reliable connection that they can always rely on to produce a quality meal. I would definitely recommend the Chow Mein, Orange Flavored Beef, Sesseme Beef, and Pot Stickers, which are definitely my favoured dishes so far. I trust and anticipate they will change this again as the good keeps coming. Thank you Sun Flower Garden.

Ugh… it sadly seems to be, that this place has gone down hill a bit… at least food wise. My honey(soon-to-be hubby) just finished getting our marriage license down the street at the courthouse, when we figured we should probably get something to eat for dinner, being it was getting late. I suggested sunflower garden, being I had been there several times in the past and was always very impressed. They have since moved to a new location just a few blocks down from their original spot. The new place is great interior wise, with a beautiful open bar. For drinks, I had a Dirty Martini — my Hun has a diet coke. For food, I went with their broccoli chicken and my honey went with chicken chow mien and broccoli beef. Our server was an absolute doll and was very attentive. My drink also turned out perfect. Now for the food, ugh. huge disappointment. My broccoli chicken seemed to have no seasoning whatsoever, and tasted extreme fishy… literally. It was so bad I had to mention it to our server and ask for a different dish. My honey was also not too impressed with his dishes either; but for him, it was not bad enough to turn away. So for my second choice, I ended up going with the«Green Bean Chicken» It comes in some sort of soy sauce. It actually ended up turning out tasting pretty good, however left a funny after taste. So all in all, I really loved this place back in the day; and though I appreciate the new slightly upscale environment, along with the fact that I found our server to be extremely endearing and sweet, the food this time was extremely disappointing and has me less than anxious of checking them out again :(

They really changed and it’s disappointing from opening to now. The food is to over cooked. Staff are not that nice, no one smiles they look miserable. I feel weird asking for anything. I keep giving them another chance but the food keeps coming out the same, way over fried! Hopefully they’ll see this and change things.

We eat Sunflower Garden all the time. We always get it to go and it has to be one of the best Chinese food restaurants in the east bay. We have not eaten there, so I can not comment on their service, but the food is always good.

This place is a gem! This is Sandy’s second location in town, much larger and cleaner than the crummy Lippow location before. Been coming to this place for maybe 10 to 15 years? Everything is so fresh and good here. The orange beef, the lemon chicken, the best hot and sour soup anywhere ever! Green onion and sprouts, mu shu pork, Deluxe fried rice, chow fun, chow mein, I can’t stop. You must try this place. It’s worth the drive. Then you can take a walk downtown or at the Marina. Please come one and all! To go orders too are quick.

We really enjoyed our dinner at Sunflower Garden. We dined in and found the place clean, the server friendly and attentive. The food came out in a timely manner, it was hot, the taste was authentic and the portions were large. I have several favorite Chinese food restaurants, its true, but this ranks amongst the top 5 for me personally. And I grew up eating the«real deal» Chinese food at restaurants in Chinatown in Oakland. I would recommend this place to family and friends. There is plenty of parking and access is easy.

I paid for kung pao shrimp but when I got back to work I discovered I had been given kung pao chicken instead. Since I also paid an additional $.50 for using my debit card on an order of less than $ 10.00, I ended up paying $ 9.27 for a $ 7.00 dish that was nothing special. My coworker had the Mongolian beef and found it be greasy. Was really looking forward to shrimp as I’d had chicken for dinner every night last week, so although some of my coworkers seem to really like this place, I personally found it disappointing. Also think that charging an extra $ 1.50 for brown rice is excessive. I’m looking forward to trying Little Hunan next Friday.

Not sure how /why they have FOUR stars? Our experience was bordering on 2-stars… Took forever to take our order, bring water, or even acknowledge that we had even been seated. Service was efficient, not really friendly, but that’s no biggie for us. Noone checked on us, ever, and we really needed an extra napkin or two. Food arrived almost too quickly, haha… like uumm, is this someone else’s order that we’re about to eat? Everything was hot though, so that was a plus. Our food tasted good, not great, nothing to make a point to come back for. If I’m in the area, cool, I’d probably eat there again, but no special trip here. Unbookmarked.

I’ve only been here for lunch so I’m not sure what it’s like for dinner over here. The lunch special is a great value for what you get. For about $ 6 – 8(depending on which entrée you pick) you get to choose an entrée and it comes with an eggroll, bowl of soup(wonton or hot and sour) and rice(white or fried). I’ve tried a few different entrees: mongolian beef, general chicken, beef with black bean sauce, honey walnut chicken, and beef brocolli! They were all delicious! The service is good and they serve up the best water! It’s so cold and crisp and the lemon just adds that exta zing. A few things I don’t like about this place is when it gets busy the servers are less attentive. Many times I’ve gone without a refill on my empty glass of water. Also at the end of the meal I’ve never gotten orange slices! Other times I’ve been there I’ve seen other tables get it. I’m not sure how they choose who they want to give it to. I’m a little offended by it, but other than that everything else is good!

Believe the hype! Ok, so here’s the deal — there’s people who have chinese food every now and then, and there’s people like me — for whom the chinese meal at a family owned local dive is a truly mystical experience. We are loyal TOTHEBONE, but are always up for a new place with plastic carnations in cheap vases on the tables, salt shakers filled with rice, stained white tablecloths, and huge wonderful menus that always contain at least one typo(my all-time favorite: the place that misspelled every reference to ‘pork’ as ‘dork’). I was lucky enough to sample Sunflower Garden’s fare at the 2012 Restaurant Tour, and they won my vote for favorite joint. I visited them towards the end of the tour, so full I was ready to pop, but still sampled their General’s Chicken, Salt & Pepper Shrimp and Chicken Chow Mein — and almost asked for seconds. EPIC. Super happy to return for a full meal! 3 of us went and ordered their lunch deal, which is a great deal in terms of amount of food and variety for a VERY reasonable cost. We sampled the Won Ton Soup, Hot & Sour Soup, Egg Rolls, Pot Stickers, General’s Chicken, Hunan Chicken, Prawns with Black Bean Sauce, steamed rice and fried rice, all for $ 30! I haven’t enjoyed a chinese meal like that in YEARS. Soups were delicious, and not drowning in salt like so many other joints. Egg rolls tasted delicious and fresh with great veggie flavor, and the sweet n’ sour sauce was thin and nice, not syrupy or sugary. General’s Chicken was as good as I remembered. Prawns with Black Bean Sauce was DELICIOUS, with fresh veggies, perfectly cooked shrimp and wonderful richly flavored sauce. The best: The Hunan Chicken was SODELICIOUS. It isn’t so much about being blown away by a dish’s creativity, but about well cooked meat, beautifully fresh veggies, and sauces OBVIOUSLY crafted with love. With great deep flavors and a bit of spice, I could have guzzled that sauce. And, of course: Potsticker score: 10⁄10! Delicious flavorful pork and veggie filling, well cooked dough, steamed well and crisped up on the bottom PERFECTLY. AND — my favorite part — served with a delicious sauce with a hint of sweetness, NOT your typical soy or gyoza sauce! Seriously, when you cut into them, juice pours out. Don’t let any of it go to waste — DELICIOUS! Two other points that totally won me over: their steamed rice and fried rice was basmati rice. That is a simple and brilliant improvement over basically EVERY chinese joint I’ve ever set foot in. And even with the lunch specials, the meat dishes were served on their own small plates as opposed to single dishes for each customer. So even with ordering a ‘meal’ per se, we were able to share family style. I cannot wait to return!
