Love this place always going there when in the area. Great food friendly staff. The reason I give it three stars is because even though the staff is friendly they are extremely slow for making sandwiches. Maybe it’s just the same girl who I get every time I go there but a 15 minute wait on a sandwich when I’m the only person there… Luckily I’m never in a hurry when I’m there. If I was would definitely not be ordering.

They have a massive selections of specialized pops, sodas, ales, and teas. The sandwiches are so much better than a chain, mainly because they have fun extras like pineapple, cranberry sauce as well as the normal tomato, lettuce ect. Plus they are the only place open on Sunday, bonus.

I have had two bad experiences here, but at the urging of a friend I decided to give them a third and final try — who knows, maybe the third time would be a charm. I ordered a turkey sandwich with lettuce and tomato, and my friend ordered a roast beef sandwich. First off, all of the tables were empty in terms of customers, but all were dirty. We had to clean our table in order for us to sit down which is sort of a turn off. But I kept saying to myself maybe this third time is a charm. WRONG!!! The tomato on the sandwich was not one you’d think would be on an $ 8 sandwich — it was only the end of the tomato — all skin! The lettuce was not much better, as I noticed that it had already started to turn brown. The turkey was O.K. but nothing to brag about. My friend said that the roast beef was a bit on the tough side. Will I be back? — absolutely not.

They closed early with no notice, despite their hours for the day clearly posted. The sandwiches are okay, but nothing special. With big groups they easily get overwhelmed. You have to watch what you order so you don’t get charged extra.

Went here with my family today. Sandwiches were quite tasty, and the variety of specialized root beers, ginger ales, and cream sodas were a nice treat. Then the other shoe dropped. Some problems: — The skinny kid behind the register is skimming off the top: I went back to try another soda and when I paid in cash he tossed the $ 2 underneath the cash register. Just to verify that he was stealing, I then went back a second time and asked how much the baklava was. He said $ 5, so this time I gave him my credit card. He then had me sign the slip for, get this: $ 4. Dirty. — The [possibly homeless] gentleman playing guitar and singing was talented, playing some classic rock tunes in a pleasant, low key manner: B+(the volume was just slightly too loud). The hyperactive, drug-addled [almost certainly homeless] gentleman who was hanging out with him, sporadically hand-drumming his table for [just] three beats at random spots, or intermittently singing along to the tune at the top of his lungs(in snippets lasting no more than five seconds) while wandering around the sitting area made for an unpleasant dining experience: D-. — Stepping in a standing puddle of urine in the bathroom right before my departure was a definite low point in my day. I would have loved to come back to try more tasty sandwiches… but I just can’t. I do hope Luigi’s cleans up its act someday soon.

I’ve eaten their sandwiches twice. Once was to go and once was to eat there, and service was kinda friendly. I had no idea how to order and what to order since I was trying to find some sort of veggie sandwich. I haven’t been completely satisfied because I feel like my sandwiches always taste like mustard, also when asked for avocado I couldn’t even taste any or see any and then when I looked hard enough at my sandwich I could see a little bit of it. If you’re an avocado lover like me, ask for extra extra avocado! Iwill be giving this place a third try sometime soon when I’m craving a sandwich but I’ll definitely be sure to say no mustard or very light so I don’t have to have a mustard sandwich lol

My girlfriend and I ordered poor boy sandwiches and they delicious and filling. We were only able to eat half of the sandwich. We loved that they served pasta or salad with our sandwiches rather than chips. The prices were a little higher than other places but the quality of the food was definitely higher too. We would definitely eat here again and recommend it to others.

Went here and was not impressed with the sandwich. I ordered the #14, The Chicken parmagian sandwhich. After waiting 20 minutes an employee came to me and told me they were out of «cranberry mustard» for the number 14. I asked if that came on the chicken Parmesan(which was clearly labeled on the menu as number 14, and stated it came w/Marinara sauce) and she said said yes but they were out. So I said I was fine without the mustard. They then brought me my sandwhich, which was just a regular deli sliced chicken sandwich… So I went back to the front to ask about it. All of the employees look confused when I asked about the marinara sauce, and if this was indeed the Chicken Parm that I ordered. I pointed it out on the GIANT menu that you order from on the wall, and they said, «we have never had marinara sauce,» even though it is in the description of the sandwich. They offered me $ 2 back, or I could change my order. I decided to change, since I could get a deli chicken anywhere and wanted something a little specials for Luigi’s. I ordered the Spicy Buffalo Chicken sandwich. They said ok, and I went back to my seat. Took at least another 15−20min for my sandwich, and it was wrong again. There was nothing buffalo about it, no sauce or bleu cheese like the description said… just the same sandwich I got before but with jalapeños added to it. I didn’t complain to the front again, just ate the meal. Overall, pretty bummed with my experience :-(

Can’t give this place a 5 star because I’ve noticed inconsistencies with my sandwiches and I believe it’s based on who’s making it. Some of staff makes it at 5 star level, and some are quick and the sandwiches are lifeless. I’m not sure who Luigi is but I doubt he’s even been there while I was there since the staff are mostly teens or young adults. Bottomline I believe sandwiches should be consistent. Train everyone to make them exactly the same way and I’ll easily raise my rating.

This place is a true gem. Delicious sandwiches and service with a smile keep me coming back. The unique versions of traditional sandwiches never disappoint. HIGHLY recommend.

I stepped into Luigi’s actually because I had to call the police. Some rude boys and girls were fishing from behind the«No Trespassing» sign behind Creek Monkey. Luigi gave me a snack and a drink of water while I waited for the police. Ever afterwards he has been my friend. I have directed several groups to buy large orders from Luigi and have always been treated well.

Out of tuna… out of wraps… out of coffee… and when they say chicken is put on your salad, it means lunch meat! They put a bunch of thinly sliced, chopped up lunch meat on my salad. The tables were dirty and it wasn’t busy at all. The Windows look like they haven’t been cleaned for a lonnnnnggg time. Just dirty and tacky. Sorry!

Huge selection of sodas including Sprecher, Vernors etc. very inexpensive price too, about 2.35 after tax. Good deli selection and friendly staff. The really cool part… their credit card system went down on the lady in front of me(we had cash so no worries for us). The cashier’s solution for this cashless lady? He asked her to pay next time she was in, very classy move. It’s nice to know this place and employee are still crating a great family/neighborhood atmosphere in downtown Martinez.

O. K…I wrote a bad review last month, but I was willing to give them a second chance. I went into Luigi’s this week and there were no customers in line. A young lady(I believe the owner’s daughter) was on the phone talking to a friend, with every other word a swear word. I was standing there for a few minutes and obviously her phone conversation was more important than a customer. I turned and walked out. Sorry… no third chance. This place is totally unprofessional.

I went back and forth on whether to write a review about this deli. My standards may be higher than some when it comes to expectations in this area. Therefore, I read posting(s) by my fellow Unilocalers, and thought«oh well, why not?»…LOL…so here we are! ;-) As many of my fellow Unilocaler(s) currently feel, I too thought, previously, this was an acceptable option for a quick deli sandwich, side dish and drink. As a last minute/convenient choice, we would sometimes grab a sandwich and head for the marina. HOWEVER my rating went from an acceptable 3 stars to 2(more accurately 1.8!). Last 2 times we ate here seemed off somewhat. The place still seemed to sustain a medium size clientele but the food was different, the place was disjointed and the staff seemed inattentive and the whole experience uneven. The $$ we paid for what we got was simply unacceptable, & from someone who doesn’t mind paying for good food, I just had to speak about it in this review so people can approach with caution. Our sandwiches were un-flavorful & the side dishes also lacked seasoning, different from past visits! The meat almost tasted old… like meat had been not stored correctly. The Mac salad appeared to be homemade as claimed, but I now question whether it’s true. I have no proof though. The soda and drink selections are still huge, so they get an A+ in that column! But I felt the customer service was disjointed, slow and the place needed to be cleaned & spruced up. I may give this place one more try, if I didn’t have another option for sandwiches, but would not go out of my way to eat here. It’s too bad, a good quality deli is needed downtown. Hopefully Luigi’s just went through a rough spot, and will get back on track. Perhaps management will read this & step things up, and I would definitely up my rating.

This place is amazing! The owner went all out to cater for our wedding and I still get compliments to this day about their pastas and sandwiches being wonderful. When you walk into the store they have tons of bottled drink choices — I don’t even know how many different types of root beer you can choose from. It’s wonderful! The sandwiches are wonderful and my favorite with baby in toe is to grab some lunch and head on over to the marina for a picnic on a nice day!

Great sandwiches and sides. Huge selection of soda pop. Not the fastest staff but they are always very friendly. Owner is usually around and greets you with a smile, talks to the kids etc. Nice guy. Don’t confuse this place with Luigi’s in Concord near the Bart station. This place is good, very good in fact but the concord Luigi’s is the sandwich and deli king of the diablo valley. Seriously, that’s not a slam, this place is great, just not. …you get the idea.

When it first opened(before taking over the rest of the building it currently inhabits), Luigi’s Deli was one of my favorite sandwich joints, using Boar’s Head meats and cheeses, delicious spreads and artisan breads for a really competitive price. Well, prices have skyrocketed in the last year, the quality has gone down and the place seems to have become a bit too big for its britches, losing customer service abilities as well. I’m happy for the success of this place; just wish they could’ve brought us with it.

What a fantastic find! Here for a basketball tourney and needed to feed a couple of boys quick. 3 perfect sammies(1 hot &2 cold), a great huge salad and some killer lemonade. The crew working the counter is loaded with personality and made us feel right at home. LOVEIT! Quick tip for newbies like us… before you get in line, look to the left and grab an order form to fill out while you wait. Cheers!

Why I must give Luigis only 2 out of guve stars. The photo I am sharing this photo of an $ 8.00 Roll because you need meat to call this a SANDWICH. I am so disappointed my last order was not so good and I had talked to 3 different person on this day prior to my ordering. And 2 had a complaint regarding sandwich quality and 1 flat out refused to go back. I am now leaning toward the later! I give 2 $tars because of tge fabulous selection of unique beverages they supply.

The Deli’s Turkey sandwich was good. However, I personally do not like the«sea salt & vinegar» popchips in the combo meal. It’s too salty and sour. I could not even finish it.

First things first: I have never indulged in a sandwich from Luigi’s. Why the F am I reviewing them then? Because I have set foot inside their walls many times and crossed their palms with silver, to pound their INSANE soda selection! For a non-beer drinker like me, the closest thing we have in terms of an equal level of cool as craft beer is a craft soda! I hear you, I love wine, but cool is one thing wine isn’t. And even though Luigi’s is a common participant in the Martinez wine strolls, they exist on a level above something as commonplace and trendy as grape squeezings. I have sampled their meat and cheese offerings with delight, and I do hope one day to enjoy their food wares! But on my downtown Martinez wanderings, it is their carbonated delights that call to me. Did you know Jelly Belly makes soda? Did you know it’s possible to find sarsaparilla in a brown glass bottle outside of one-horse towns you only pass through on road trips? How about organic sodas, made with actual fruit juice and fair trade cane sugar? Oh yes indeed! Two of my favorites: River City Root Beer from our state capitol, and Maine Root blueberry soda, like the nectar of gods. You’ll never be truly happy with capitalist Coca-Cola ever again! Stop in for a truly delicious soda, and do one better than me and grab a sandwich too, especially on the weekend when you’re likely to be charmed by live music — support a great local business on one of the most charming Main Streets in Northern California.

I went to Beaver Creek Smokehouse and boyfriend went to Luigi’s for a sandwich. He ordered one of their turkey sandwiches and I left to get my food across the street. Once I got back, he came out with his sandwich and a beer. We sat outside at one of the tables to people watch while the antique fair was going on. His sandwich was huge! It was filled with dry, yet flavorful turkey and of course all the fixings(lettuce, onion, tomato, etc). One thing that sticks out in my memory is that there was too much mayo(it was oozing out of the side of the sandwich). I obviously had a bite and I liked the sandwich but it wasn’t anything to write home about. Boyfriend said that he didn’t really care for the sandwich BUT the beer was great and he liked the outdoor seating. I don’t think we will be back anytime soon.
