This place almost always has the odd item that I need last minute. They owners are very pleasant and the prices are reasonable. One small complaint in the summer it is so hot in the store the candy is all melted and disfigured, other than that great little corner store

JJ’s changed hands just when Cases has gone out of business. I was a customer of both for years and suddenly I am missing abrasive Doug and his rough and ready gang and stale top ramen. I am even missing the former Korean owners of JJ’s. I called the«new» JJ’s and asked them if they had an item. The older Korean lady with the Ms. Swan culpability streak, pretended not to speak English on the phone. Another time I walked to the store and I always bring my own grocery bag. I was browsing as I was hungry and thirsty and simultaneously fascinated by the«Made in Korea» products section(did that stuff come over in suitcases?). It had been a hot day and I was in my swimming shorts but it had began to rain so I put on a knit cap. OK, so I looked scruffy and maybe a little suspicious with a bag. The lady really rudely says«What are you looking for???». The way she said it was so rude that I knew she implied a bad motive on my part. I told her I brought my own bag so she would not have to use a bag and I was cold so I had a hat on. And then I said«So you do know how to speak English?» She said«uh lil’l bit». I said«A lot». And she just gave me this monkey say no evil blank stare. So, after a few minutes I come up to the cash register and a Korean man comes out of nowhere behind the counter and tells me they refuse the right to serve anyone. I put money down on the counter and then the lady pulls money out of the cash register and tells me they don’t need my money. I continue to like Koreans, generally speaking…

While I am seriously flattered every time I come in to buy beer you ask for my ID, but I am over 21. I’ve only ever bought beer from JJ’s. One day my husband wanted vodka so we stopped by on our way home and when he returned to the truck all huffy I knew something was wrong. They don’t carry hard alcohol? Never noticed before because usually we go to Case’s up the street. Sometimes during the summer I have big parties in my back yard and I occasionally run out of buns or misc. BBQ type things. I can walk over here and get my little needs met. Oh, and we run out of beer so we come here too. Just don’t expect to get your night cap liquor fix from them. Do expect to be treated like you look younger than you are, in the most flattering way of course.

One of Martinez’s unique features is the number of neighbourhood markets that are sprinkled here and there. Jj’s is near work, along one of my commute routes, and I wonder why this FTR doesn’t already belong to Ivy R. There’s plenty of parking and once inside all clean, well lit and nicely layed out. The selection’s not great and the prices are about what you would expect. But it is convenient for an occasional ice cream novelty or single items of this and that.

Great service! Friendly people! and great selection of items within. Tried other stores within the vicinity but found products way too overpriced and sometimes unfriendly customer service. These people are really nice and will help you find what you need. If you enjoy supporting local business rather than Big Franchise corporations, I would suggest visiting J&J Deli Mart. Can’t go wrong.
