went in alone, was seated at the bar for dinner– there was one other person seated there also. Gave my drink order which was served promptly. For the next 15 minutes, I was ignored while the bartender focused on his computer, with his back turned to me and the other patron the whole time. The food may be good, but I wont know because I walked out. Had a very good experience at a competing nearby mexican restaurant.

Had a fantastic meal. We had the chicken fajita enchiladas and the fried fish tacos. Both were very good. The chicken fajita was on top of the enchiladas, a nice surprise. Really good chicken! The fish tacos were really good, but next time I’ll ask for extra sauce… just the right spicy. The Sangria swirl margarita did not disappoint. Not inexpensive, but worth it in my opinion. Oh… and the salsa, both red and green… delicious!

Excellent fresh tortilla chips and fresh warm salsa. Tortilla soup is outstanding. Menu describes it as cheezy but, actually it is not a heavy broth… super flavorful… savory delicious. Enchiladas were OK as were the fajitas and Chalupa. I highly recommend the tortilla soup, one of the best we have ever had.

Another just okay Mexican food restaurant. I’m from an area where Mexican food restaurants abound on every corner and the food is much better than anything I have been able to find out here. I especially miss authentic carne asada, they have it here but it’s just not the same. Never-the-less, they do have good food here and I have always received good service.

This food is amazing. I love food. This was amazing food. I could eat here everyday. Everything about the restaurant was great. I hope that next time we pass through that I can eat here again.

Tortilla Soup is on here! JG score of 6⁄10(+3 for the Tortilla soup, 0 for atmosphere, +1 for price, +1 for fountain Diet Dr Pepper, 0 for typical service and +1 for we like to return) We give the food here a +3 really only for the Tortilla Soup. We have gone on a Tortilla soup tour of Marshall and this is by far the best we have found. It is delicious and they give you by far more than anywhere else… like a bucket of soup. Otherwise, the food here is maybe a +1.5. We do like the green sauce and chips too… a lot. Our last visit we even tried the burger. Funny, cause we always laugh at people who eat somewhere like this that is Mexican food and then they get American food like a burger and then leave a scathing review= idiots. Well, someone told us the burger was good so we thought to try it. Then as we were ordering we saw the chicken fried steak and said to ourselves, oh hell, let’s just do both. The burger was good= not enough meat but the jalapeño bun was good and the melted white cheddar. Fries are good and the chicken fried steak was of the standard frozen type but actually kinda what we like anyway like old school cafeteria lunch style… it was okay. The atmosphere is nice. They did take out the middle bar which helps. It is large in here and can be loud. The price is fine. They do have Diet Dr Pepper which of course goes well with Mexican Food. Service is typical and usually nice . Only reason we return here so much= Tortilla Soup!

This is a Tex-Mex chain restaurant. I consider it to be better than the other Tex-Mex area options. The manager here is obviously dedicated to having customers leave with a good experience. I’ve never received anything other than stellar service. I enjoy the food and I especially love the red salsa. Their special green sauce is a nice change of pace too.

Friendly, full bar. Limited beer selection. The food was decent and the service was a tad slow, but it was all right. I’d go back.

Food is good but staff has a bad attitude toward white folks. Service is very poor and slow. Constantly have to ask for tea refills. Apitizers came out half way through the meal. You are ok as long as you don’t ask for something you ain’t got yet.

Its ok for a tex mex i’ve had better. It use to be a great place but recently I’ve had bad service and uncooked food so I’m afraid to eat there specially with my kids.

We have driven by this place for the past 15 years on the way to my Grandparents. Well we stopped today and it was GREAT!!! Not crazy about the margarita mix, the Sangrias were much better. I ordered the Shrimp tacos… the shrimp was amazing, mango salsa was kind of runny but I just scraped it off. My favorite part was the creamy dip/salsa, if you mix it with the red it was Boom-Bos-tic!!!

Great food and service at fair prices. Not all locations are the same, but this one has always consistently impressed me. Management that walks the dining rooms and not just asks how things are, but will dart off to the back and get something if you need or want it? That’s a sign of pride and ownership to me — I’ve been to places where I have been MANY times and have never even seen a manager poke their head out of the kitchen. They have all the typical Tex-Mex fares, but I recommend you go for something a little different like their Fried Shrimp Tacos and get the seasoned steamed veggies. And what the heck is in the green sauce they bring out with the chips? Yum!

Bland, generic Tex Mex. I’m pretty certain most of it is prepped and frozen or chilled, then reheated in a microwave. The atmosphere is friendly and they push hard to please, but you have to feel for the staff; it’s like a good actor trying to work with a terrible script. It’s busy and loud at peak hours. Probably fun to drink there, if you’ve just hit drinking age. Give it a miss.

Been here 3 times. First time was great. Second time my wife’s plate had a onion hidden by her enchiladas and she is highly allergic to onions. Third try, waited over an hour for our barely warm food to arrive. I ordered fajita enchiladas for the price of $ 12. The 5 small pieces of fajita meat were burnt as was the chili con Carne sauce on the enchilada, I say enchilada because out of two only one had sauce. Needless to say we will not be returning to this restaurant.

This location is well-kept and has great service. Our waitress was over the top friendly and very on top of our orders. All of our food came out perfectly and we were in and out with 45 minutes. I encourage you to split items and I ordered the small nachos and it was enough food for a small family. LOL! The meat was flavorful and the nachos were piled high. The queso flamado was also an excellent choice. :)

The food is mediocre. Nothing was good but it wasn’t horrible either. We ordered the combo fajitas and tacos al carbon. The bathrooms were dirty and smelly.

Atmosphere is amazing with old-style Mexico and other Central/South American design. Menu selection is more than typical Tex-Mex, but old«standards» are available. Prices are moderate — perhaps a little more than other Tex-Mex restaurants. My family ate there twice on a recent trip, once going and once returning. The server on our first time(evening meal) was fantastic. The second time(lunch hour) wasn’t as great, but the time of day could have been a factor. My only true complaint is their street sign. It’s nearly impossible to see at night if you’ve never been there before. It should be more brightly lit.

As with any restaurant there are some items on the menu that are just your basic offerings, and then there are those dishes that really shine. Here the John Wayne(cane asado) is a real winner, as are the fajitas. For a special treat, order the sautéed shrimp as a side, along with the fajita butter to dip them in!

I’m a little surprised the reviews for this place are so low, and I’m appalled that someone thought El Chico’s was a better choice! No offense to El Chico’s but, I mean, its El Chico’s. Anyway, I have only been here once but I was actually really impressed with the food. Of course I didn’t have super high expectations so that probably helped. I ordered chicken and beef fajitas and I was blown away by the beef. It was deliciously marinated, I didn’t even want a tortilla, I just wanted to eat it by itself. They also had a butter sauce you could drizzle over the meat that was really good as well. The beef was definetly tastier than the chicken. I wasn’t super impressed by the salsa but I did taste my nephews corn dog and it was actually really good! Lol Free soft serve is a nice touch. Will definetly come back.

Yes, I’m very critical of Mexican food restaurants. When you grow up in South Texas, you can understand why. That said, I’ve been stuck on a project out in the middle of nowhere — no offense intended to the locals, but the restaurant selections in Hallsville are very limiting. Jalapeño Tree proved to be a gem! Here’s why: — great chips and salsa! — good fajitas — good tortillas(and they offer both flour and corn) — good lunch menu So, if you’re in the neighborhood and you like Mexican food, you should definitely hit up Jalapeño Tree!
