Several reviews complain of the service and I’m not sure why. I’ve consistently had great service, always personable with a bit of welcomed crassness. Separates hometown restaurants from the typical boring chains we’ve all become accustomed to. Shillings, keep doing what you do so well. For those that don’t like the aged wood & brass trims, go use your coupon at Applebee’s!

My husband and I ordered grouper– it was inedible. Our server was attentive and removed the charge from our bill. It was a disappointing experience. We will not return.

It looked great from the sidewalk, but as soon as we went in it smelled like they had a gas leak. I ordered a brunch special: an omelette with Brie, spinach, and ham… I got a western… and the cheese grits tasted sour and spicy. We stopped at the first place we passed to eat… should have passed.

Delightful ambiance — old wooden bar with discrete tables here an there; just the place to mingle and eat. Service was excellent just what you would expect from a place like this and then came the food… Oy. How is it possible to make a French dip without French bread? How is it possible to have beef that has no flavor and gravy made with watered-down onion soup? How is it possible that cheese made it to the top of the meat… on a French Dip? I can only imagine the volume of business the place could have if there was a chef who understood the composition of tasty food. In short, very expensive and bland, lack-luster and not worth a repeat visit. How very sad when the place has such incredible ambiance and service.

Very awesome lunch! Had gumbo, turkey pot pie and house salad. All were very good, the staff was personable and my waiter was kind and helpful.

We stumbled upon this place after meeting our realtor in downtown Marietta to sign some paperwork. Headed here for lunch since it was one of the only places we found open. Nothing out of this world but it wasn’t bad. I had a hamburger that was really good. Service was good. To me it was just an «eh» meal/place for us. Not the best we’ve had but certainly not the worst.

I visited during what appeared to be a slow lunch period for them. After ordering what should have been an uncomplicated cajun chicken salad, I was informed after about 30 minutes that they were«just whipping it up in the back.» Just horrible. See ya!

I love the drinks, bloody Mary fantastic, I recommend Sunday brunch. The fresh squeezed orange juice in my mamosa was wonderful, and very refreshing. The eggs benedict were great I enjoyed the flavor. I chose the grits wich had hint of green peppers. The grits where so good. Ithe thing I like the most, is the chef is willing to wip up something that is not on the menu. I also recommend sitting outside you get a wonderful view from the front patio. I defiantly love shillings good staff and amazing food. You can bring your dog outside wich is great, staff will bring out water for them. I highly recommend this restaurant

My husband and I stopped at Shillings for Sunday lunch. Our server was attentive but very slow in bringing our drinks(about 15 minutes with some excuse of how busy the bartender was). We ordered and waited about 30 minutes for a fish sandwich and what was to be eggs benedict. My eggs were hard cooked(not a drop of soft yolk which makes poached eggs so good) there was no hint of any sauce on them. The few potatoes I had on my plate were cold and the fruit consisted of 1 small piece of cantaloupe and 4 pieces of watermelon. When we were finished we told our waiter the cook needs to be told what a poached egg is and he just had some remark of how his manager was talking to the cook as we speak. We thought, at the very least, the manager would come over and speak to us or offer us an adjusted bill after our complaint. WRONG! Too many other good restaurants in the area to visit Shillings again for a bad, rather expensive meal.

One of the worst nights in a long time. Food was bland. The host was rude. Our waitress was horrible. Asked three times to get a glass of water 40 minutes later I had to go to the bar to get. Don’t go!

I came here with my future in-laws after looking at some wedding venues nearby, and at my father-in-laws insistence because he ate there and knew the owner when he lived in Marietta decades ago. Apparently, the place is an institution and has a prime location on the Square. The top room has a great view of the Square, and is a place I hope to go for date night sometime soon! On this visit, we sat at the bar after watching the bartender get into it with a «regular customer»; awkward! He cleaned up his attitude and served us promptly. I asked for a Rum Runner, and he didn’t remember how to fix it! He improvised and it came out okay, but was missing something. My mother-in-law’s Bloody Mary was good, and he poured my fiancé’s beer properly, too. I ordered a turkey Reuben with sweet potato fries, and it was good but nothing spectacular. My fiancé ordered off the brunch menu and got a breakfast quesadilla that was surprisingly good. We would come back another time and get it, but hope they start using a homemade salsa instead of a pre-packaged salsa. It was a stark contrast to the freshness of the rest of the dish because we could taste the chemicals and preservatives. Everything else about the place was just okay. Décor is really dark and heavy, and the service wasn’t that good. And, I swear the carpet downstairs has a funky smell to it, and probably needs to be ripped up and replaced soon. Thankfully, it’s not upstairs, where I hope to come back for date night and have a table with a view.

The two stars are for the bar, which is nice. The restaurant itself though brings the score down. This place is ridiculous. We went in and were seated immediately in a section surrounded by other patrons(we weren’t hidden in an unseen corner where we could easily be forgotten). Waiters bustled around us for approximately 15 minutes, and in that time not once did a single person come over to acknowledge us. After 15 minutes without even a drink order, we got up and left. Apparently this is common at this establishment. The ONLY thing keeping this place afloat is the fact that it’s a great location and it’s a staple of the square– NOT because this place is good. Go for the bar, eat somewhere else. Many other choices in the area, there’s no need to settle on this place!

How do you say… I’m shocked this place is serving at all? Appetizer we ordered was sold out… If you ask what’s prepared fresh VS Cisco BEWARE! Finally… Is that cat pee I smell or is the bar carpet a cat tree refugee ???

This was my third or fourth visit to Shillings, and likely my last. We were seated at a very small table without much room to move the chairs for fear of bumping into the diners behind us. We sat for several minutes without a server coming over. A nice lady who was not a server did notice and ask if we had been served, and took our drink orders when we said that no, we had not. I ordered a salad and my friend ordered a bowl of chili from that same person. We finally saw our real server when she brought out our food, but we still didn’t have the wine we ordered. The drinks finally arrived, and as we were about half through with our meal, a party of four was seated at the table behind us — in seating so tight that my friend had to get up and move for two of the people at the other table to be able to get to their seats. Thankfully, the people behind me were leaving at that point, and we were able to move to their table to finish our meal, and have a little more room. We got lots of apologies and everyone was perfectly nice, but overall it just wasn’t a good experience and really was a disappointing evening to what had been a fun evening of holiday shopping at shops on the Square.

Tried Shillings for the first time today. I was not overly impressed. While the atmosphere is nice, the food was just okay. I had the grilled cheese and sweet potato fries and my friend had the Caribbean chicken salad. The food was good, but not something I would want to rush back and get again. The fries were pretty good though.

The food was great. We loves the brie cheese puff. The quesadillas were great and the desserts were rich and yummy. Pricing was acceptable. Service was not that good. But the food made up for it.

Shillings on the Square is nestled in the heart of vintage Marietta. Some of their interior decorations were indicative of how long they’ve been in this particular sight. My family and I dined in on a Tuesday afternoon and we were the only large party at the time. Our waiter was super attentive, and at times, a little too much. But we’re glad that he helped us choose some the restaurant classics. I ordered the beef hot dogs with chili, onions, and cole slaw on a sourdough bun. Awesome sauce! Our overall experience was cool, but I hope the waiter gives people a chance to dress their food before asking if we’re enjoying it.

We went here as a party of eleven for dinner. I just finished throwing up from that horrible meal. I vomited everything from the appetizer to the meal. It is way overpriced, the service was terrible, and I’ve never been more disappointed and embarrassed by a restaurant; someone recommended it to me, and now I’m thinking my friend must’ve had their tongue removed, because everything was awful. Our server talked way too much and messed up both my mother’s and my fiancée’s entrée. Again, I’m so embarrassed we took our families to this place. I will never come back, and I will be sure to warn anyone who wants to dine in the square. Wish we had gotten fast food instead. The only thing that was good was the water.

Made the mistake of going here for an anniversary dinner. I wish I could have my money back. The food had no taste whatsoever. Incredibly disappointing. Also, the service was bad. We watched our waiter stuff his mouth with cherries from the bar when he would pick up drinks. It’s sad because the location and design had so much going for it.

I have been here a few times with friends and family. It is kind of hit or miss with the service. Sometimes its great, other times… it’s super disappointing(not informed or attentive. The food is OK, this isn’t in my top choices, I think I can get better food for the same price elsewhere. Often my food is cold or just bland. I will say the atmosphere is really cute and quaint. Definitely has an old time feeling to it, which I like.
