Located in a lovely old building which has housed an early university and a first-generation public school, this locally curated, small-town collection of artifacts, furnishings, and photographs is staffed with knowledgeable and friendly volunteer guides. It’s free to the public and open three days a week. Take a weekend tour if you’re curious what the eponymous«Marble Falls» looked like prior to creation of the Highland Lakes. Hear the story of how a blinded soldier, guided by his treasured memories, returned from the Civil War to found this town on the banks of the Colorado. Falls on the Colorado Museum is tucked in a grove behind a present-day school complex, and cannot be readily seen from the road – pre-trip mapping is highly advised. As a bonus, you will, upon exiting, find yourself a few blocks from the meringue-topped pie-fest that is the Blue Bonnet Café!
