Looking forward for good SC ribs. I smoke my own when I am home, so I was looking forward eating South Carolina’s best. WOW was I was surprise. The ribs wasn’t smoked but seems like it was from a Dutch Oven. It was the most disgusting meal I had in years. How this place got so many stars, is beyond me. I guess the buffet is the reason people go, but it had the basic Sunday Church lunches. If you want Bar-B-Que ribs, avoid at all cause… trust me

We read the reviews on here to find a quick barbecue lunch on our way to Savannah. Thanks for giving us some of the best pulled pork and slaw we’ve ever had!!!

Really great BBQ, wonderful staff, fantastic value. Three stars only because it’s a cash only operation and this inconvenienced us, and I wish there were more menu options. But — now that we know we’ll be much savvier customers next time. Definitely recommend — but bring cash.

Wow! Unilocal you did us right again. Be here and expect to eat amazing food. Such nice people too I also mention the boiled cabbage– seasoning was spot on. Small town but way more flavors than anyone can imagine.

This food was out of this world amazing. We discovered it on Unilocal on our drive from DC to Hilton Head for a wedding. All four of us got the all you can eat buffet for under $ 10. The food was so incredible. Small town, family-owned and run restaurant of 30 years – this place highly deserves your business. Only open for lunch on Thur, Fri, and Sat, though, so plan your trip accordingly! Highly worth the stop. Thank you, McCabe’s, for a far superior lunch than we were expecting on our road trip to Hilton Head.

This place is the real deal when it comes to South Carolina barbecue. Must have the hash, pulled pork, fried chicken, rice with their homemade sausage, collard green n mac n cheese. The family running the restaurant is very nice n friendly. So worth the detour. Will definitely be back! $ 9.95 buffet, the best bbq money can buy

On the South Carolina bbq trail that we picked up at the SC visitor center off 95. We wanted a lunch spot off 95. Short detour. Hard to find, but well worth it. Ala cart or buffet. Tried most everything. It was amazing. Pork bbq, fried chicken, cabbage, coke slaw, white and Dirty rice, and the absolute best yams I have ever tasted. The McCabes served us and we’re very friendly. Other customers were greeted like family. Conversations circled throughout as people told stories how they found McCabes. Cannot say enough. Owner even came out to take this picture of my wife and I. Loved it! Will try and make back in every trip up 95. Note**** only open limited lunch hours. Call before you drop by.

The food was good and enjoyed eating there until we went to pay. The price was not explained. The menu board says that the buffet is 9.95 and that tea is 1.75. When I went to pay I told the lady working the register I was paying for one buffet, water and whatever it is for my two year old to eat.(Before I sat down to eat I asked someone working there how much for my two year old daughter to eat and was told, «just let her eat and we will work it out.») She told me that it would be $ 18.(So now I’m thinking you are charging me $ 7+ for my 2 yr old to eat) So I tell her that she never had a plate or cup to drink from and she then says ok how about $ 15. So, I shake my head and pull $ 15 from my wallet and as I hand it to her, I say«you will get me this time.»(Still thinking I’m paying $ 4+ for her to eat a few pieces of chicken that I pull off my plate, some hush puppies, and two bites of rice.) It was not until my brother payed for his buffet and was charged $ 12.50 for one buffet and water that I realized that she really only charged me $ 2.50 for her to eat off my plate(reasonable amount). I just did not know I was paying $ 1.75 to drink water! If that is what it is OK, just please show it on the board so there is no confusion. They get mad because I’m questioning the price and tell me that they don’t want my business. Who I think is one of the owners follows me outside and says to me that we can take this to the street.(I’m about twice as big as him and half his age) All while I’m holding my 2 yr old in my right arm. It is not until I tell him that I asked before eating how much it would be for my 2 yr old to eat and was told«let her eat and we will work it out,» that he says I’m sorry and then says I appreciate your business. To which I pointed to him and replayed, you don’t appreciate a damn thing! I realize that this was a misunderstanding on my part and theirs but it could have been handled differently. Please change the menu board so their is no confusion. It was just so surprising how they acted when I did not make that big of a deal about it and I would not have said what I did if it was explained better to me.

Best Barbeque in the US hands down. Also, when I eat here as good as the Barbeque is, the fried chicken is even better.

My husband and I love Bbq, and being from up north we wanted to stop and have some real southern Bbq. This place is amazing! Pulled pork, fried chicken, collard greens, hash. Yummy sweet tea. We ordered a rack of ribs as well as having the buffet. Licked our plates clean! The people working there couldn’t have been nicer. We were a little nervous walking in, but they were very welcoming and explained everything to us. Wish they were closer!

If you are driving up or across South Carolina, take the time to go out of your way a bit and take in McCabe’s in Manning SC. It is a classic of barbecue, side dishes and southern hospitality. They take great pride in all three and feel the gratitude, pride and responsibility of being a barbecue institution in South Carolina. The hush puppies were top drawer, the collard greens the best we had all week in SC(I had them 8 times in 8 days of vacation) and the creamed corn marvelous. The barbecue was long pulled, great smoke ring and flavor, beautiful bark. I really came to enjoy the vinegar and pepper sauce and now prefer it to the Memphis or sweet mustard. The sauce is what you expect for this region and compliments the Q perfectly. I will drive an hour out of the way to go here anytime I get close. My cousins were a bit miffed that we did not bring some back with us. They have a well deserved reputation across the state. I love the décor and chatting away with the proprietors… they really enjoyed watching our toddler(3year old) and infant eat the barbecue and collard greens. They are only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday…

Place wasn’t bad. Didn’t stack up to a five star rating though. I have had much better BBQ in my time. The pork was dry. I will say the sides were really good and the staff were amazingly friendly. The meat should steal the show and for me it fell a bit short.

The family and I trek up and down 95 often. We definitely appreciate reviews from Unilocal because we try to avoid fast food if possible. If you like Carolina BBQ, this is the place. Five stars for the pork and the fried chicken. The chicken is perfectly cooked and pork has the right amount of smoke. I take a star away for the sides. While I enjoyed the cole slaw, greens, and cabbage, the rice was hard, the gravy was nothing to write home about and the yams were from a can. There wasn’t any mac-n-cheese the day I visited. Will we return? Yes! This is a family run operation, and everyone is super friendly. If you are looking for a delicious BBQ lunch, do jump 5 minutes off 95 and visit. The buffet is $ 8.75 for adults, $ 5 for children. They also have carry out and sandwiches. The sweet tea is very good too.

We drove all the way from S.W. Florida just to pay homage at McCabes. In the world of Barbque, the rule is, there are no rules other than doin’ it right. Of the fourteen core barbecue states, South Carolina is renowned for three distinct types of sauce, Savannah river style(tomato and spices,) Carolina Gold,(mustard and spices) and PeeDee or Lowlands style(which relies on Vinegar and cayenne pepper). For the purist looking for an early American, taste dependent style, the Lowlands, Pee Dee style is a true legacy of the art. McCabes Bar-B-Que is of the elite category of which most pits only dream. They consistently rank at the top in 100 S.C. Barbecue establishments and are listed on the 100 mile barbecue list(places you’d drive 100 miles for the food) for all the right reasons. When you arrive(for the very first time or as a regular) you are treated as a friend and fellow. Every employee is only concerned with what you want, what you like and what you might not know about this most elegant of country foods. Everything is fresh, the veggies are local, in season. Sweat taters, kidney beans, string beans, hush puppies, collards and cabbage and the tomaters are fabulous. Then there’s the pork. Slow cooked in split hog fashion over a wood fired pit for 12+ hours, the pulled pork is melt-in-your-mouth amazing, the ribs just relinquish the meat off the bone as if it were divine rule. Their hash(a mélange of pulled pork, shoulder, chitlins, liver, heart, etc.) is one of the most original and memorable flavor treats you have ever tasted. Over rice, or sausage rice, it’s a winner. And for the chicken addict… well, all I can say is there has never been a southern fried chicken any more juicy, crispy or tasty. Bring cash, not a lot, the foods great and the bill isn’t. Bring an appetite and turn off your danged cell-phone for an hour. Wash it down with sweet tea and, when you get home, tell your friends how you just ate at an American treasure. Oh, and plan to go back!

We actually passed this place because if you’re not really looking carefully, it’s easy to miss this unassuming place. «Cash only» and«hang up the cell phone» signs prominently displayed in the window as you walk in. This was hands down some of the best BBQ I have ever had — fried chicken so tasty and all the sides are amazingly delicious. Sweet potatoes, potato salad, coleslaw, beans, hash, hush puppies… MMMMMM! If you’re on a diet, you may not want to visit McCabes, but I recommend the splurge. The service was outstanding and Southern fried friendly.

My husband and I were traveling home from Hilton Head Island, and were looking for a great BBQ place. We looked at the reviews on Unilocal and decided to try out McCabe’s. We are sooo glad we did! The best BBQ and sides we have had in a long time! So good we can’t stop talking about it :) The Sweet Potatoes were the best I’ve ever had, the buffet had southern comforts including stewed tomatoes and okra, collard greens, hush puppies, beans, pulled pork, cabbage, coleslaw, and sweet pickles. We ordered the sweet tea. The sauce is great too. We will probably take a trip back just for this BBQ! Bring cash because they do not take credit or debit cards. We are a family of five and sat in the booths in the middle of the restaraunt and still had room leftover. Overall a Great experience.
