Typically I don’t write reviews for chains like Starbucks, but the Starbucks by Columbia University deserves an honorable mention. Many of the other reviewers state that the service is bad and the store is dirty, that is far from the truth. For the last year I’ve been coming to this Starbucks for my daily caffeine fix, I have never had a bad experience. I know the wait is sometimes long but that’s what you get when people need their coffee in the morning. Try using the mobile app to order. I like ordering while i’m on the 1 train at 110th street. Usually by the time you get to 116 your drink is ready on the counter for you.

I’ve been here basically every other day now for about 3 months. Your neighborhood Starbucks, nothing out of this world, but I’ve generally had decent customer service each time. These staff have to deal with a slew of demanding students day in and day out, so I’ll forgive them if they’re not roses and sunshine every 5 seconds. I will die forever loving the toffeedoodle cookie … its what dreams are made of.

You need to stir because you’ll wonder why there’s no taste ugh. Wish they didn’t put so much syrup too. Plah. Wish they would fill it to the top as well -.- probably won’t be going here again

Seriously shut this place down. Look, starbucks is starbucks, it’s chaotic and busy and all that jazz. However, you still have to treat people like the humans they are. Every morning I come here for my coffee because it’s so close so I’ve seen the bratty little baristas who bicker and fight behind the counter and it’s whatever, I really don’t care. I often wonder who runs this place and who does the hiring because seriously this baristas are just caddy to each other in full view. However, one of their baristas Steven(with a V, because the Stephen with a PH is nice) is just a jerk. He things his sarcasm is cute and witty but it just makes him an ass. For the past two days he has insulted my intelligence 3 times, and I didn’t even do anything but tell him somebody else was ringing me up. Here is a tip for you Steven. If the Stephen with a PH is ringing up my order and in the time between the moment I fish out my wallet and the moment I go to hand it over for payment you send PH Stephen on a break and need to ring me up instead, say that. Use your words, communicate it like an adult. Don’t just bark at me «what do you have» and when I go to tell you that the other person has me covered repeat the«what do you have» two more times and roll your eyes. Verbalize, Steven. Just say«I sent him on break so I can ring you up here». Faster, nicer, and your done. Also, when the girl behind me told you her drink and you made it wrong, and you did because I heard it… just remake it. Don’t sit there and guilt her and yak on about saying it back to her. Be a professional. And if you don’t like your job, then don’t do it. But stop ruining my mornings.

Perfect for a cold wintry day! Had a tall Cappuccino and of course I added an xtra dash of cinnamon.

It’s an average Starbucks. It’s one of the only coffee places up by Columbia that I know about so I’m here a bunch. There’s not much seating area and the line is usually at or out the door, but the staff is pretty nice and accommodating at this location.

Waited more than 15 minutes for a drink, asked them multiple times for it and it never came. Had to leave without any drink because I had to do something.

I am completely a fan of this Starbucks because it is DIRECTLY across the street from where I live. I can walk out any morning and walk right into Starbucks and«Get the Grande.» My usual order is a grande iced coffee(unsweetened). Yes, it may be packed(depending on the time of day) with Columbia Students, Faculty, and Staff, but it is worth it. I know the workers are super friendly there and the other day, a barista told my roommate and me that we should have our own TV show! Have they spelled my name incorrectly? Yes. But what Starbucks hasn’t? One time at this location, I told them my name«Cliff.» And I received a blank stare, so I replied with the spelling: «C-L-I-F-F.» When my order came out it said«Tommy» and I did that stare they do in The Office when they look directly into the camera idk this: –__– As long as I live in this area, this is my «go-to» Starbucks for when I need that fix. #GetTheGrande

Not the greatest Starbucks I’ve been to. I understand that it’s directly across from Columbia University, hence why it’s ALWAYS crowded and the line’s out the door, but they should work on that. No matter when you come here, the line will always be long, even when Columbia is not in session during the fall and spring. There’s few people working the register and making the drinks, and the drinks, because of this reason, almost always come out bad. My coffee here once was scalding, piping HOT. And my passion tea lemonade was mostly ice, this is unacceptable. There is hardly any room to sit here, because it’s SO small and the wifi is very spotty, probably from everyone logged onto it.

Very long line, even though I ordered only a croissant I still had to wait for a long time

It’s not the greatest Starbucks in the world — it’s a little crowded, a little loud, and the lines are always long thanks to the proximity to Columbia. But it’s functional. I’ve never had a problem with my drinks here, which I think is a lot more important than the atmosphere. If you’re looking to do work, there’s a Starbucks closer to 110th that will probably serve your needs better. In fact, every time I’ve been to that Starbucks, the service has been quicker as well. But if you want to grab coffee/tea and don’t particularly care about lines or noise, this is a fine spot at which to do so.

This Starbucks is the WORST !!! I don’t think they understand what the customer service means. I have to skip the word INDIFFERENT directly to RUDE. They didn’t pay any attention to my request even if I was the only one who was ordering !! I clearly saw they rolled their eyes when I tried to confirm whether they made my coffee right! But this place is my most frequent site simply because it is right across campus. So pathetic.

This location doesn’t meet the expectations that the Starbucks name usually provides. On a Tuesday around lunchtime, you would think there would be adequate staff to manage the line and the customers. There was 1 person working the register, 1 person making drinks and one person stocking shelves. I felt bad for the employees as they seemed very busy. I ordered a passion fruit tea and the barista didn’t shake the drink as all other Starbucks do. I don’t blame her as she was working by herself and trying to work as fast as possible to keep customers happy. I’ll definitely give this location another shot. It could have been an off day.

They are very slow. Yesterday I’ve had to wait 30 freaking minutes for my order. And the day before they messed up my coffee frappucino for a mocha frappucino. Unacceptable. Also costumer service sucks. Offering frappucino happy hours with one working blender creates unbelievable rush, making the place that’s already so tiny incredibly small. All in all not worth it at all. Don’t come here.

Customer service is terrible. They don’t even talk to you when you order, they don’t take your name half the time, they don’t write everything on the cup and when they do they still mess up your drink. I’ve had to return drinks several times and have even asked for refunds. Baristas are lazy and incredibly rude. They roll their eyes at dissatisfied customers, make drinks without following recipes, and stop making drinks like an hour before closing. Stopping at 11:45 or 11:30 to close up by midnight is fine, but before it’s even 11:00? What the heck?! Like someone else said, they take their frustration out on customers and it is not ok. I wish there was another Starbucks this close to campus.

S’mores Frappuccino is delicious!(Even better when half off during happy hour special). One of the few fancy over priced drinks that are worth getting. Always packed but line moves fairly quick and baristas are fairly pleasant

Average Starbucks in NYC. Loud. Smells like coffee. Long lines. I mean there’s a Starbucks every 2 blocks here but there are still lines! It’s convenient for Columbia students to get to but it seems like there’s always a line which is understandable when you have thousands of sleep deprived college students living in the surrounded few blocks! Overall, would go again because it’s convenient, quick and standard in terms of what to expect. Also the workers in this Starbucks are nice Also try the Nutella secret menu drink! It’s an iced coffee with milk, 1 pump chocolate, 1 pump hazelnut and caramel drizzle. So good!

I went here a couple times and it wasn’t crowded so I probably had a better experience than most. I also only order a grande hot coffee so it’s very hard to mess up. One thing to note, the grande hot coffee is only $ 2.30 compared to USQ locations which is $ 2.45 so I’m a fan :)

I can understand their frustration when there are so many customers everyday, every hour, but releasing it on your customers just won’t cut. They need better management and better training for sure. Maybe start with putting a smile on your face?

I went there with a friend yesterday in the late afternoon. The space is very small, and it was obvious that people with laptops were lingering endlessly. However, the workers were pleasant and efficient.
