I eat here a lot and whenever I come here I feel like I’m getting ripped off. Unfortunately NSUH has no other options for food besides here and the cafeteria. You would otherwise have to order something of drive. Coffee I think is decent. Nothing spectacular but better than Dunkin Donuts in my opinion. Food is a rip off. I spent 13 dollars on salad and a soup. The best sandwich though in my opinion is the black bean burger. Also at night they run out of a lot of the pastries. That’s bad for those of us who want their late night snacking. At least this place is open 24⁄7 I wish ABP didn’t have a monopoly here. One day I wish we could have a shake shack or a chipotle in the hospital. That would never happen though but it’s nice to dream.

Sustenance while seeing your loved ones in the hospital. The cafeteria is better. I wouldn’t waste my time. This space is dreary and maybe even makes you more sad about what’s going on with your or your loved ones health. The people who work the sandwich area at night are friendly. It’s open 24 hours and that helps if you miss the cafeteria hours, otherwise I would avoid.

What a surprise to find appealing food at a reasonable price in the lobby of a hospital! The pulled pork sandwich and the premium coffee(Sumatra) were both excellent.

I am currently completing a Pharmacy rotation at North Shore LIJ Hospital, so I have been to this Au Bön Pain everyday for the past week or so. I am happy to report, I will continue to go for the entirety of my time here! There is a delectable display of bagels and muffins for a quick morning snack, complete with several coffee and tea selections to get your morning dose of caffeine. At lunch time there is an array of any type of soup you could want, a huge salad bar, and a grill for personalized sandwiches. All that being said, it all boils down to location, location, location. Directly adjacent to this ABP is a large food court with significantly cheaper(and surprisingly delicious food)! Because of this, ABP’s prices seem steep comparatively. Overall this place is solid. It may be a little more expensive than the food court option, but you definitely get what you pay for — the food is fantastic!

Filthy, unfriendly, disgusting. This is in a hospital lobby for goodness sakes. The pace is a pig sty. Just like all the others. If you go after 10pm there is nothing to eat and no help. I’d give it no stars if I could.

This place is amazing, every worker is so friendly. I have been there three times because my dear daily member is doing heart surgery & the place is great for a quick snack/lunch

Shouldn’t a «restaurant» INSIDE a hospital be cleaner? This ‘Au Bön Pain’ seems like it belongs in an airport or a rest stop; NOT a hospital. Things aren’t clean, it’s constantly disorganized, items are always missing, and it seems very disorganized. Call me crazy, but for being INSIDE A HOSPITAL I’d expect more sanitary conditions.

This Au Bön Pain is no different from any other, besides it being located in the hospital lobby. Coffee, pastries, deli and hot sandwiches, soups etc. The cafeteria downstairs simply won’t due with its shades of mystery brown-orange foods. Looking for a decent meal, here you come to this spot. You would think because of it’s location setting, there would be increased sanitary measures. Guess again. Like all the other Au Bön Pains in the city, you hand pick your own pastries with flimsy tissue paper, no tongs. Certain hot foods sold by the pound are exposed freely to air without being covered for probably some extended period of time, that just baffles my mind. Get some sanitary standards going here. Watch your receipt also, be aware of prices. No thanks to the incompetent cashier over charging us because she can’t figure out the right button to push and playing it off that there would just be a minimal difference in change we would receive. Got a refund eventually, but ceasing to talk to your coworker and focusing on your job is too difficult apparently.

I’ll keep it short and sweet. If you are visiting a loved one at North Shore on the weekend this is your ONLY dinging option. They don’t give a damn since they have a monopoly on your weekend dining. Came here today and purchased a small iced tea($ 1.29) at the cash register I noticed it came up «MEDICEDTEA» so I politely asked the cashier if she was aware it was a small. She rolled her eyes and said yes. After paying and receiving a receipt I saw she changed for me a medium $ 1.99. What a racket!

Reading all these reviews, I understand where everyone is coming from. That said, there is a shopping center just down the street with a Subway, McDonalds, etc… So if you are driving, do NOT bother coming here. Okiedoke. Now. If you are NOT driving, or youre on a very short break while working here, or if you are medical personnel that can survive on coffee and bagels or(overpriced) muffins, or croissants. Then this place is convenient. Coffee here is good. Let us say average. More good than bad. Not as bad as McDonald’s disgusting earwax concoction they sell, nor as delicious as my homemade Illy coffee or cuban cortados, but, as long as i do not grimace as I drink it, black, that means it is good coffee. The lattes you order at the counter are tasty too, but very sweet. So be forewarned. Plain croissants are good quality, almond croissants are good too. I thought they only had almonds and some powdered sugar but they are slathered in an almond butter that is thick, sticky, sweet(from my head to my feet – see what i did there?). Personally, I think there is too much of it, especially since croissants are very difficult to squeeze to get the excess out like say, bagels. Bagels are not exceptional. But i am from Queens, when I want bagels, I usually go to a Kosher bagel/bialy place. The texture of the bagel is good, almost hard/tough, chewy exterior, the inside is soft, but almost too light. The honey pecan cream cheese can give someone diabetes. You can order it toasted, with butter, etc as a sandwich at the counter or just buy your own cream cheese separately. My experience is mainly pastries and coffee, clearly. But i have tried other things. The soup is good, filling, tasty. Add salt to your liking! Understand that they have to keep in mind their clientele. The Meusli is also very good if you know how to pick it out, usually the one in the back, that looks a teeny bit macerated. In summary, this ABP has the bare necessities for the likes of me. And saves you time from driving around, searching for parking, etc.

Demonstrating the truth of the expression«Cheap, Good, Fast — pick only 2» but add good service to that and you still only get two. The sandwiches we ordered(the Turkey Cubana and the Turkey Avocado something [#32 for what it’s worth]) were delicious as were the mashed Red Potatoes(which were somehow blissful according to the sign). However, the ambiguous ordering system, surly staff, and clueless checkout girls didn’t make three bottle drinks(2 Nantucket Nectars and a Coconut water), two sandwiches and a small soup container filled with mashed potatoes coming to $ 30 any more palatable. All in all though, the opportunity to get tasty food, even for a premium price, in a hospital setting is a treat. I can’t for a moment imagine eating here if I wasn’t hospitalized or visiting someone who was and thus unable to go somewhere else for good food with pleasant servers for less money.

I visit this Au bon pain store frequently at NSUH Manhasset and im always dissatisfied with the sell of the pastry goods and coffee. The delicious choices they offer for the pastry stands, like muffins, cinnamon rolls, cookies and etc. LOOKDELICIOUS!!! BUT i hate purchasing them because then i have to REQUEST it to be TOASTED(warmed) at the bagel/sandwich station, and the staff is always unsure whether they can warm it up. because its a toaster for bagels. That right there BAFFLES me because I cant understand why they sell pastries that are SUPPOSETOBE ate majority of the time WARM and SOFT! But when you chose one from here they are ALLHARDANDCOLD Why are their pastry goods sold COLD? And they are always hard. I dont know about others, but I would hate to bite into a HARDCOLD blueberry muffin. That just doesnt sound appetitizing at ALL. On the other hand the store is set up slightly tricky and confusing, there are no signs letting customers know how to select a pastry, I’ve seen people using their bare hands to just take a cookie, not very sanitary for a hospital food store. There is no sign telling you where to get the napkins to chose your snack or tongs to assist with the selection. I was just very frustrated last week trying to pick a snack to enjoy. Even after warming up my Double Chocolate Muffin the top of the muffin was still very hard, I only ate the middle of my muffin, felt like a waste of money. I LOVEMUFFINS. Aside from the pastries the coffee choices absolutely suck. The taste is bitter(FRENCHVANILLA& whatever other flavor that is displayed) it doesn’t even have a slight hint of flavor. Also it’s very confusing to chose a coffee, they aren’t labeled DECAF or REGULAR it’s either MILD or Hazelnut /FrenchVanilla. It’s just confusing. I don’t even bother getting coffee there anymore. They need to Change the display setup, TASTE especially and the CHOICES!

Ugh. This location disgusts me. Came here at like 11pm so I understand the lack of pastries. However, I don’t understand why service is so slow at this time considering there’s like a 5:1 employee to customer ratio. The guy who made my brother’s samdwich was super slow and didn’t take my brother’s order for five minutes while carrying on his convo with a coworker. The cashier chick whines to the manager and obviously does not want to be working. I had to wait like another five minutes for her to drag her ass back to the cash register, where she proceeded to give me a b**** attitude after I asked her to repeat herself. It’s not my fault she can’t pronounce English properly. Please fire these people and give the jobs to people who actually need them. Oh, and the food is seriously not worth your money. Zero quality standards. If stale food is your thing, go here.

Having family admitted in the hospital is never a good thing, however Au Bön Pain is a pleasant spot for quality food, snacks, drinks, etc. It is conveniently located on the hospital’s main floor near the entrance and is in service 24⁄7. With so much food variety, one doesn’t have to settle for bland hospital offerings. From an assortment of fresh sandwiches to soups, and from hot drinks to smoothies, no matter how hungry one may be, this place will make you want to spend more money on food you don’t need, thanks to their beautiful displays and food aroma. Their quality bagels, mini cheese croissants, southwest corn soup, along with mango craze and south beach smoothie are definitely worth living off of. With fresh and clearly visible ingredients, the soup was not only filling but also flavorful. For a moment, i forgot was in a healthcare setting. Also, the Mango smoothie was refreshing and appealing at different times of the day. The staff was not only friendly and helpful, but also going out of their way to make the service a pleasant experience. Thanks for making 72hrs at North Shore, a bit refreshing.
