Hog N Claw Catering

This catering company provided great and friendly service. The food was for a company picnic and was exactly as requested. The whole hog package was prepared NC style with a touch of Virginia sweet, perfect for my diverse crowd. The chicken and burgers were prepared as requested while the vegetarian burgers were a hit. I will be calling these guys again.

Where to begin with Hog-​n-​Claw.
The short of it: service was extremely disappointing. You can call the «Hog Wash» sauce NC BBQ, I guess, but the BBQ sauce they use is Ken’s, they don’t make it on their own. If you aren’t into details with your event and are fine with providing a credit card number without great responsiveness from your caterer, then Hog-​n-​claw may just be for you.
Also, I heard recently that the store front in Manassas closed and they’re only a catering business now.
The long of it: I was planning my wedding and called Hog-​n-​Claw because I wanted to have a pig pickin’ and they happened to be on my venue’s preferred vendors list (found out later that the list was inherited and hadn’t been properly updated in 3 years). At first the service was fine, Pat sent me a proposal and I went out for a tasting. BBQ was good but not spectacular — probably the Ken’s BBQ sauce they use. She was helpful and answered questions but never wanted to put anything in writing for me. Apparently, I was supposed to pay this woman thousands of dollars to provide food at my wedding and I was supposed to just trust her word… sorry, but that’s not how I work.
I didn’t choose to hire Hog-​n-​Claw, but got to see them in action at an event last month. Some of the attendees were very impressed with the food but the service was not stellar. Servers were yelling expletives while refilling the chafing dishes. Actually, it seemed like most of the host’s volunteers were doing the work for the caterer’s servers.

Disappointed with caveat. VA is not the state to get NC style BBQ. This might be the closest you will get around here. If you are not from NC, this place is great.
Obviously very popular, much of the selection sells out early and they sometimes close b/​c of it.
