Papa’s Bar & Grille

This was the worse experience I have ever had dining out! We ordered an appitizer «papas platter» it arrived to the table in 5 minutes. Nasty! Everything was frozen and not even warm when served. Ordered «chicken joubalie» it was Luke warm. pepper, mushrooms and broccoli was canned food. So nasty! Drinks were delivered holding the rim of our glasses. I can’t even describe how disgusting this place is.

The only thing I have ordered here for 10 years or more is the vegetarian pasta. I’ve searched the country high and low to find anything comparable and it just doesn’t exist. So Papa’s it is!
My husband varies his orders from burgers to Little Bernie’s Chicken to steak tips and everything is so good. Papa’s French fries should be the norm in every restaurant!
All of the staff are friendly and bar service is exceptional.

My wife and I go to Papas at least 2 times a month for dinner and a couple per month just for drinks. The food and drinks are a great value. Staff is usually great. We never leave hungry or thirsty. Have been going here for years and always go back.

Great service, decent food. Meh. Not exciting.
I got turkey tip sandwich — flavorful, but a bit dry.
Hubby got veal parm sandwich — said it was «superfried» — crispy to the point where you could barely taste the veal.
Service was very good though.

I was wary about ordering here this place has a reputation for dishonest wait staff. I was correct as Papa’s Bar & Grille is poorly managed and seems to condone adding items to your bill that were never ordered. They allow smoking in the front door of this dive. Many of the menu items were not available.

We ordered take out this Sunday and everything was great. The food was just like it was in the restaurant. I would highly recommend the turkey tips or the buffalo tenders — they are always a crowd pleaser.

Ive been here a couple times in the past and have always been impressed. The food, portions, and price were always great. I dont know if they were having off night this evening, or if they hired a new chef, but the food was BAD. I got a double combo, steak and turkey tips. Each steak tip had a different flavor. One had waaaaaay too much oregano, one was bland, and one had a weird piney/​menthol taste. The turkey tips were mush, which I thought was strange and not much flavor. My boyfriend got tips and ribs. His tips were ok, but the ribs had this weird ah-​so/​apple sauce/​liquid smoke flavor that just didn’t taste right. Oh well, maybe I’ll give this place one more try :-/

I have eaten here many times in the past, and have left glowing reviews fro them on this very site, but recently the place has taken a dive. I normally wouldn’t mind too much except for the fact that the prices are not cheap. The portions are becoming very skimpy for the money. $ 16 to $ 20, that should buy a lot of chicken. Mostly pasta and the sauce was very flavorless and the chicken is clearly reheated in a microwave or is just frozen to begin with. I don’t believe this is fresh chicken anymore. Not sure what’s going on in there nowadays. Papa’s get your quality back in shape!

Everything from the grill is delicious, definitely a lot tastier than most places. The apple crisp tastes so good it’ll make you slap your momma lol. The pricing reflects the quality of the food. The two areas I feel need improvement are the friendliness of the staff and the wait time, usually about an hour. Other than that this place is great!

Ordered delivery for the first time: 1) food was mediocre, and did not «live up to» the reviews on this site, 2) they messed up the order by not putting in chicken in the Chicken and Ziti Alfredo, and, 3) finally, the fact that they do not allow substitutions (asked that the side salad be substituted for a side of rice, lady said «no, they won’t allow it») all contributes to our lack of desire to order from here again.
After all the positive reviews on here, we thought we’d give this place a try. Next time we will stick with the places we already know are good. Hope your experience is a better one!

We started going to Papa’s about a year or so ago. We’ve dined in, which has always been pretty good. The delivery take out is another story. It takes forever to show up and by the time the food gets to you, it’s cold. But, the food was decent.
The last couple of times, the food hasn’t been that great. The fish on Friday that was once delicious, now has no flavor. The crumbs were scarce and it wasn’t worth the price. I had the baked stuff shrimp, the last time I ordered it, it was skimpy, but flavorful. Not only was the baked shrimp COLD, it was covered in tasteless bread crumbs… hidden under onion rings.
The kicker is that we had to wait two hours for the delivery. After calling a few times and hearing every excuse in the book, we were just about to cancel. The guy finally arrived with the food and it was utter crap,
You know they flash the bat signal in the sky for Batman and Robin to come save the day? There should be a signal to for Gordon Ramsey to come to the rescue, when your food and service sucks. He would’ve had a sh*t fit, with not only the wait but with the quality of the food.
We’ll never again order or dine at this restaurant again.
It should be on Kitchen Nightmares.

I have passed by this place most days coming to and from work but had never been inside until now. My dear husband said he was craving Papa’s chicken parm so the kids and I met him there. Parking was easy on the street and they have their own lot as well. Score! We were seated right away and sat in a comfy booth. They have a sizeable bar and it seems like a nice neighborhood place with a menu filled with comfort food, burgers, seafood, salads, apps, pastas. Homey is a way to describe the interior. We ordered zucchini sticks, chicken and eggplant parm over linguini, ravioli parm, and a hamburger and fries and a grilled cheese sandwich with fries for the kids. Everything came out quickly and warm and the portions were generous. It was all good and enjoyed by all. I really liked our server– she was friendly, pleasant and attentive. Generally speaking, this isn’t the type of food offerings that attract me (since I can make most of what they offer at home), but all in all, a pleasant experience.

One of my favorite red sauces that is an awesome compliment to their pasta entrees. I usually get eggplant and chicken parm over ziti. Haven’t tried much else here bug their pastas.
Downside and reason why its not 4 stars is because its so darn expensive.

Terrible service because of one poor waitress whom fouled up our meal and everyone else’s too. The only thing she did was put in the order right away while other tables waited too long and scowled. She struggled to get to us in the beginning, gave us bread 10 minutes upon seating, then provided drinks and took the order. Never brought the salad which accompanies the entrees (she said she always forgets). Finally brought our two entrees to the wrong table, spilled it over the floor & counter, then spilled it on our table! I told her I wanted the salads and she only brought one. Basically she made fake apologies for ruining our meal and still ignored our requests.
Food: flavor is good and portions large but very sloppy. Too much sauce slopped on my seafood broccoli ziti special and my house salad was drenched in dressing like a bowl of soup. Could barely eat either because the sauce and soupy dressing were overpowering.
Never going back…

This might be the best midweek lunch spot in Malden. I’m a big fan of their steak tips, and the burgers aren’t too shabby either. Everything tastes home cooked, and there’s hardly ever a long wait to eat.
I’m pretty sure people who live in other cities are jealous they don’t have a Papa’s.

First off this place is really 3.5 stars not just 3. But I couldn’t honestly bump it up to 4. Food is good. I had the Baked seafood casserole. Kinda small for «market price» in my opinion but still tasty. This is your local comfortable style restaurant where everyone seems to know everyone (my first time there and I knew 2 ppl) which is always a good thing in my opinion. Wood paneling, booths and strong mixed drinks OH MY! I will have to come back and try the steak tips that everyone is raving about and see if they can compare to the Newbridge in Chelsea or Caseys in Somerville. If so then 4 stars they will get…

Wanted to give 3.5 stars, but because the food was Really good I decided to go up one instead of down…
Have had the menu in the house for months & always hesitated ordering out from here because we all agree that certain things just shouldnt be delivered or taken out… Like pretty much everything we ordered…
But we decided we were going to be adventurous & go for it this weekend…
So we ordered several things…
1. Baked Stuffed Shrimp (with seafood topping) w/​Baked Potato. When I got it & opened it I was soo disappointed in how it looked, it looked just like some shrimp with Ritz crackers crumbled on top… But then I took a bite, these were no Plain Ritz crackers, It was soo delicious — the perfect ratio of Garlic to Butter to lemon… So good!
2. BF got the Burger that according to all the reviews here was great… He stated it probably would have been better had he not asked me to stress Well Done when I ordered (he has a thing about pink meat)… he said it was too well done & next time he will be more aware, but that he did like it alot & he doesnt like anything…
3. Baked Seafood Casserole (same topping) same reaction but it was soo good, Mom said all the fish in it was soo great…
4. Papa Platter — had all your usuals, Mozz Stix, Potato Skins, it was good… Really tasty actually…
They gave tons of utensils, condiments, everything… I did get a side salad & asked for dressing & no one now adays puts dressing on the salad so shame on me for not asking for it on the side, but it was way too much dressing, but it was still delish… Just make sure to ask for dressing on the side…
They had to increase the price on all the seafood plates… ooh I forgot the BF was undecided that night & he got a shrimp plate also… But they dont have sides, so we needed to order the burger meal with fries & the shrimp with fries… so there were way too many sides & I wished they did boxes…
Delivery like others said was long but It was just about an hour & I dont think thats too bad for what we ordered & I am a city over…
Will def order again when in the mood, just a little pricey & now with Captains Quarters back open in Everett, I can run there for my Seafood Fix!

I love love love this place. I’ll say its my favorite malden place. Homey feeling inside with some older locals at the bar. Fast and to the point service. Just like all neighborhood joints should be.
This also happens to be my favorite place for Chicken Parm. I just love their sauce! I try to never order and just steal parts off my boyfriend’s plate since the serving size is big enough for 3 with some leftovers!
I usually order the turkey tips salad! Soo good with plenty to eat the next day as well. And the turkey tips are made out of white meat (not sure if thats how it usually should be but at other places I always had dark looking meat)
Someone in a review mentoned that the calzone sticks are tiny. My waist and mouth would beg to differ. They are big enough to spilt between a few people. Didn’t know what to expect when I ordered but a deep fried italian sub in fried form kept me happy!

I get food delivered from this place all the time. Probably once a week, so yeah, I am a fan.
Their menu is very extensive, from grill to pasta to seafood, and so far everything I’ve tried had has been excellent (Except for the BBQ ribs. Didn’t care for those).
They especially make an outstanding burger. 10oz, clearly hand-​packed, with pretty much any topping you want (though they do charge per topping). But they’re always cooked pretty much perfectly to order.
The delivery is also very speedy.
