Great staff, non corporate and I’m drinking a killer Mexican spice mocha surrounded by Art. Happy things.

We pulled off the highway looking for something a little less franchised. The coffee IS good, but NOBATHROOM and you have about 10 tables. Seems lacking.

Great coffee and cool staff. I am a sucker for their mango peached iced tea. Also buy there ground coffee to brew at home.

Excellent coffee, kind employees… No public restroom, but there are restrooms within close walking distance to the store. Tasty selection of pastries. Grand variety of bulk coffee /tea. Chill atmosphere for hanging out or working. Wi-Fi(no password) available.

Good coffee!(as good as Starbucks)…Great bagels and pastries… Friendly and attentive baristas… They are in the process of upgrading the interior. So far they have installed decorative ceiling tiles, painted the walls and I heard that they will be getting new marble top tables and countertops! 5 stars when they finish the décor upgrade!

Very loud. Employees had music too loud to have a ‘normal’ conversation or casually read a book. Also, no food other than soup and sweets. No bathroom is also very unfortunate. The tea was very nice. Interior is nothing special. They did have one plug close to where we were sitting which was nice.

Good selection of coffee, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. The lack of a restroom surprised me, but I still recommend this place if you’re in the area

I always get iced coffee from Willoughby’s when I’m in town. It may seem like a boring drink order, but I drink my coffee black so I appreciate a good cup of coffee when I find it!

Best coffee in the area! They have an amazing variety of coffees, grinders, presses & accessories. Really, really delicious soups, too!!!

I’ve only had their espresso drinks and once had a piece of coffee cake and it was all very good. It’s a great place to hang out and watch the people of Madison go about their business.

We needed gas for the car on our road trip south from Boston to DC, so I turned off the highway and stopped by Madison to fuel up the car and ourselves. I was pleasantly surprised by Willoughby’s. Even though the interior was nothing exciting, the people working behind the counter were very sweet, patiently waiting for me to pick out the exact italian cookie I wanted to go with my latte. The coffee itself was fairly good, a dark roast where you could taste the coffee even when it was drowned in milk. The other customers of Willoughby’s were also very kind and went out of their way to move chairs around so we could all sit by the window.

The coffee is five star if you’re into rich, flavorful Joe. And light cream in addition to half and half for your lightener options — awesomely insightful. A little demerit for not having a decent enough selection of flavorful offering for the pseudo coffee addicts amongst us, like the Mrs., who was unable to find anything to suit her taste. And major demerit for no bathroom. Really? How long can you sit there enjoying your coffee if there’s no way to relieve yourself(especially at my age)?

For those of you who like to taste the actual«coffee», rather than making it in to a milk based drink where all you taste is the milk, Willoughby’s hands down has the best beans around. These beans are roasted to perfection. Unlike Starbucks where they roast their beans to a crisp and all of the origin flavor is lost, or any other coffee chains around where all you are left with is a stale taste in your mouth from beans stuck in warehouses for months on end, the beans at Willoughby’s are one of the few where you can actually taste the subtle nuances from one growing region to another(and are fresh). All other coffees I try pale in comparison to the coffee I get here. Keep up the good work!!!

Any Willoughby’s – Madison, New Haven, Branford, offers the best coffee, if you like dark and strong, on ct shoreline.

As Ronald S. mentioned in his review from a few years ago, the mocha is decent. Three years later it continues to be just that. Acceptable, satisfactory, and not a whole lot more. I discovered this on Sunday when I came in for a mocha and was surprised to find the girl behind the counter pour the already assembled liquid from gallon sized milk containers. She explained that they go through so much of it during the summer that«it’s just easier» to make it ahead of time. There’s one made with whole milk and one with skim… so two separate containers for each. If you wish for something in between full-fat and non-fat, as I often do, you receive some combination of the two. I asked how it’s made and the girl stated that its mixed with Hershey’s syrup. Just to make sure the requisite espresso is also in there, I asked and she confirmed. In all honestly, I was disappointed that it is pre-made. I expected more from Willoughby’s as I consider them to be one of the better coffee shops on this side of the state. I think pre-making anything like this takes away from the quality. I drank half of my small sized iced mocha and went home and made my own iced café latte later in the day and it was more satisfying. Additionally, the staff here were very nice but not very knowledgeable about where the products are from. None of the baked goods are made in house, some are from Take the Cake in Guilford, and others are from an unknown location.

The place was pretty crowded, so it looked like the place to be. The staff was very friendly. Lots of coffee bean options, but the only syrup flavor they have is vanilla. I like flavoring… If you are looking for food that’s a bit more savory than sweet, you won’t find a lot of options but the option they had was good. I would like to go back when I can actually find a spot to sit and just enjoy.

I used to stop at the guilford store almost daily for 3 years. Always got an iced americano, always between $ 2 – 3. Apparently this same drink in guilford is $ 4. FOURDOLLARS and two cents exactly, for several shots of espresso and some water. I politely questioned the staff about the cost– which I knew would be a mistake– I didn’t really get an answer, just defensiveness and a little anger. No need to get defensive sweetness, I’m not daddy and I’m not that bar of soap you’ve been avoiding I’ve now officially had the most expensive iced americano ever. It’s a shame I’ll never go to *madison* willoughbys again.

decent non-big national chain coffee in downtown madison. barista made a decent mocha, not too chocolatey and didnt taste like burnt coffee as it does at the bigger coffee shops. baked goods were good too. seems like a good place that the locals go. probably busy in the morning. worth stopping in.

I love this place because its one of the few oases in our town where the hippies like me can gather, chat and sip tasty local coffee. Every time I return to Madison to visit the parents, this is my third stop after my parents’ home and the local pub;) I usually take a book or my netbook to one of the tables near the window order an Ariana Kono coffee and pumpkin scone(those might be seasonal) and read or write. What’s nice about this place is its central location in Madison, the people watching and you can look out across the street to see what’s playing at the local movie theater to help you and your friends decide if you will go bowling in the evening instead of watch the newest artsy movie. This is crucial as there are only five things to do at night in/around Madison — bowling, drinking, movie watching, more drinking and skinny dipping.
