Great Japanese Resturant in Madison. Had dinner here tonight with two friends. Ordered the sushi dinner special which came with eight pieces of assorted sushi and a small roll, soup and salad for 18.95. Well worth it and food was tasty and high quality. I work in town and should done here more often.

Perhaps I made the wrong choice ordering a cooked dinner entrée versus staying with the standard Japanese fare like the sushi and rolls. Ordered the fried eggplant and shrimp. Entrée consisted of four pieces and the shrimp was over fried making it hard and inedible. Salad that came with the entrée wasn’t appetizing. By the time I was done 20 minutes later my wife’s rolls weren’t ready yet. Restaurant wasn’t crowded so the food should not have taken so long. Wife ordered the rocket roll and Naomi roll. The rocket roll is like a fried squid roll and was pretty good. Would have been better if it was warmer given the squid is supposedly fried. The Naomi roll is a shrimp tempura roll with a crab, tuna and seaweed salad topic. It was ok and wasn’t extraordinary. Chose this restaurant because of the higher Unilocal rating. First time I felt the four star reviews did not match my expectations. I would give it a 2.5 stars if I could but since I can’t give a .5 star I have to give it a 2 star. A 3 star would not be a right representation.

Wonderful place. Great food and service every single time! Atmosphere is laid back and welcoming, with soothing music as a backdrop. Owners & staff, especially Johnny, are so welcoming and kind. Long time regulars, we recently moved away, but made a point to come back today during our visit to NYC. Menu is fabulous as always. Takuma is one of a kind, delicious experience. Mimi I.

Amazing authentic Japanese food. I’ve lived in Japan for three years and was happy to see an authentic Japanese restaurant with a Japanese owner and sushi chef to remind me of the real deal. You can practice your Japanese with the owner which is something that is hard to find at most other Japanese restaurants.

Never a disappointment ! Sushi is definitely one of the best in north jersey! Service might be a bit slow at times but it’s really worth the wait! We came here about once a week and order usually the same and it’s always just as good as first time! I love this place!

Takuma has an excellent lunch special. Quality, quantity, price and service… true value. I’ve called an order in and it’s always ready on time. The staff definitely understands the importance of customer service. It is on my rotation of superior dining establishments. John

I take back any snarky comments I’ve made in the last few months about japanese food in New Jersey. Between Takuma and Tomo’s, you have enough options for a quick and delicious(albeit pricey) fix. I find the quality here equal to Tomo’s, cheaper for rolls and appetizers, and comparable for any other dinner entrees. We shared a sanma, ikayaki, oden, Jenna roll, and futomaki. The sanma was on par with what would be expected at an average restaurant in japan, as was the ikayaki. The oden was excellent, with a good broth and egg, konnyaku, daikon, and fish cakes. The rolls. The rolllllllllllllls. Come here and order rolls. The futomaki was among the best I’ve ever had, and the Jenna roll was fresh and well cut. Both rolls were perfectly proportioned and sliced to the perfect size(weird thing to say but true). Will definitely be coming back often.

My family eats here almost once a week. Why do we go so often? Easy. It’s one of the only restaurants where a) my wife and I enjoy eating, b) the kids enjoy eating, and c) the owners and wait staff seem to enjoy when we come in. The sushi is fresh. It’s the only place in town where we will order sashimi. Most sushi restaurants are«roll-only» because the fish isn’t high enough quality to taste good as sashimi. They have a great setup for kids. There’s a kid’s menu, lollipops, and sometimes they offer the kids origami. It also helps that they really cater to kids. The only thing I’d say is they don’t have an extensive kitchen menu. They have an udon, a ramen, a few hibachi dishes, etc. Then again, it’s nice to decide to make a few good items than have lots of items and they all mediocre. Having tried most kitchen items, they are all pretty good. Come here. Just if you don’t have kids, don’t come early because that’s when we all roll in!

The nabeyaki udon here is what I really love. A yummy large-bowl filled up with chicken and veggies and tempura. Their sushi that I’ve had has been fresh and good with a nice flavour and consistency to the rice, as well. The green tea is always nice and the service is consistently friendly. The only drawback to this place is that the menu is a bit on the pricey side for the quality of the food.

This is our favorite sushi restaurant of all times and I’ve lived in NYC, had sushi of gari, and other fancy sushi. The quality of fish, taste of the rice, and the crispness of the nori come together in a flavor explosion in your mouth. Our favorite rolls are the Otai roll and the Oyako roll. Other awesome ones to try are the salmon skin temaki and futomaki. Even if you’re not a fan of mackerel, his nigiri of mackerel is the best I’ve ever had(both regular and Spanish mackerel). Other delicious things on the menu include hamachi kama, hiyashi chooka, ankimo, nuta, and their noodle soups. We live an hour away from this restaurant but refuse to eat sushi anywhere else. I’m Japanese and quite a sushi snob so I know good sushi when I have it.

Sushi with no strings attached. I love the sheer selection on Takuma’s menu, and the rolls are priced very fairly. Ingredients taste extremely fresh. We visit this restaurant regularly at least once a month and have never had a bad experience. The staff is friendly and very, very responsive. The atmosphere is comfortable. The furniture is standard with booths, tables, and a sushi bar. This establishment is BYOB.

Was recommended to this place by a friend who was born in japan, and visits regularly. I trust his recommendations on Japanese cuisine, and he convinced me of its freshness. I was so impressed, the place had a real authentic taste with a very polite staff who went above and beyond to please us! I will definitely be going back soon!

The best sushi and rolls in New Jersey or NY, although I havn’t been to all of NY. Fresh, excellent service, a bit slow on weekends, but that’s a sign of success. I usually do not disregard a full house at a restaurant. Extremely clean, BYO, friendly, accessable, authentic — which means a first rate Sushi restaurant owned and run by. .. surprise. .. Japanese people.

Nice, humble place to have lunch or dinner with the family. Located near the train station and movie theatre. You can find parking in front of the restaurant or at least on the same street. Kids love the shu mai and chicken terayaki on a stick. They weren’t crazy about the noodles that came with the kids’ meal, which I find it odd but they love the cold soba noodles where they can dip the noodles in a sauce. Sushi is decent enough and on par with me going to Yuki Hana(the other Japanese restaurant but found Yuki’s atmosphere a bit more lively than Takuma)
