The place for kongnamul gukbap — Korean ‘bean sprout soup with rice’. The name hardly does it justice. I am continually amazed at the diversity and range of Korean cooking, and dishes like this are one reason why. Not a fiery hot stew most commonly associated with Korean food, but rather a soothing broth, seasoned to taste with salted and fermented shrimp and chili peppers at the table, and served with a small bowl of poached egg and seaweed, to be bathed in the broth as a side dish. Another classic Korean«hangover soup», but as well known(and touted) as a general purpose restorative and cold remedy, or indeed, a ‘breakfast anytime’ dish. Not sure how many(of our many) Seattle area Korean restaurants offer this specialty, but by all accounts, B Bop Fusion is *the* place for good and authentic kongnamul gukbap. A good article on the history and styles of kongnamul gukbap:

It is really difficult to find a right Kongnamul Gukbab(Beansprout Soup with rice). This extremely simple soup is extremely hard to make it right. If you cook too much, beansprout will be mushy and lost its flavor. If you cook too little, it smells fishy and taste like raw grass. If you put too much spices they cover the delicate flavor and depth of the soup. If you put too little spices, the soup just taste nothing. This is really simple vegetable soup(but it’s not for vegetarian, especially for vegans, since they also need to add some squid and other fish for the depth of the soup. They took out the fish from the soup but you can still see some chopped squid in it.) but it crystallizes the way in which Koreans make various vegetable soups. Jeonju is the famous, if not the only, place in South Korea for right Kongnamul Gukbab. Jeonju is believed as the food capital of Korea and Kongnamul Gukbab is one of the signature food originated in this city. It is extremely hard to find right Kongnamul Gukbab place outside Jeonju even in Korea. When I first heard that the Kongnamul Gukbab of this place is good I didn’t believe it. I could not imagine that a right place for Kongnamul Gukbab can exist outside Korea. Also I tried this place for other food before and I didn’t get impressed.(On my first visit I didn’t even think about trying Kongnamul Gukbab in here since I was confident to believe that it cannot be good or it cannot be even similar to it) So I was in doubt when I heard that they have the best Kongnamul Gukbab in Seattle area. The one who told me this place was good said that one of his business acquaintances who lives in LA(where all the best Korean food is abundant) always goes to this place right from the airport to try and pack extra for his staying when he visits to Seattle. So I tried their Kongnamul Gukbab and I can say that it is the best Kongnamul Gukbab I’ve ever tried outside Jeonju.(definitely it cannot beat the originals) The way they serve is right. If you order it, you will get one stainless bowl and bigger ceramic bowl with soup. In the stainless bowl, there is a poached egg topped with seaweed. You can eat it whatever way you like, but there is a way that people in Jeonju like. You might want to add some soup from the ceramic bowl on the poached egg(about three to five spoons, depends on your taste) and mix them like locals in Jeonju. It is advised that you finish the poached egg(mixed with the soup) first and then try the soup. There are two types of Kongnamul Gukbab in Jeonju: one is more traditional Sambaekjip(Sambaek restaurant) style and newly developed Nambusijang(South Market) style. This place is typical South Market style Kongnamul Gukbab, which uses squid for their soup. The only noticeable difference in making this soup is how they warm the rice in it. Most of the renowned soup restaurant in Korea uses the way called toryeom. When they warm the rice in the soup they don’t put hot rice in the soup directly neither they boil the soup with the cooked rice. They keep pouring boiling soup on the cooked but cold rice and taking the soup out again and again until the rice reaches the desirable temperature and texture. I asked the owner how they warm the rice he told me that they just boil the cooked rice with the soup. This is not a right way but even in Korea only few soup restaurants use this method to warm the rice nowadays. Kongnamul Gukbab is usually conceived as breakfast food but you can eat it anytime you want. It was also strongly believed that the soup can help recovering from hangover. Since Korean culture promotes people to drink to drunk when they are socializing, hangover soup is well developed(every drinking lover has their own place for hangover soup) and Kongnamul Gukbab is regarded as one of the best hangover soups. The restaurant is neat and clean. They offer authentic Jeonju food including Kongnamul Gukbab and Bibimbab. The name of the restaurant, Jeonju B-Bop Fusion Rice Retaurant, suggests that the owner or chef is from Jeonju and there will be some fusion dish you can get. But their food is pretty authentic there is nothing fusion that I could find. Bibimbap is also good but I recommend that you need to try Kongnamul Gukbab whether it is the first time you visit there, you are interested in Korean food culture, you have craving for it since you had any chance to try it in a right place, or if you have really bad hangover.

This is def a hidden gem for kalguksu which is a noodle and soup dish which I realize is a vague description but oh well. The menu is about less then a page long but every soup dish they had is delicious, not to mention the service is good and the place is very cozy. The location is hidden behind O2 sushi so it is a bit hard to find but it seems to be a hotspot for the older Korean ladies. Very small and cozy but the location is a bit hard to find and if you have a group of more then four people it will be difficult to sit together with the small tables.

I loooove their bi bim bap here! :) They serve it with a side of soup and it is so YUM. I have also tried their kal gook su here too and the portion was HUGE. Totally worth the value. My husband likes to get their spicy pork + soondubu combo because I believe it’s $ 8-$ 9 if I’m not mistaken. I personally don’t care for the combo because the pork portion is small and their soondubu isn’t the best I’ve ever had, but my hubby seems to like it. They also serve every meal with two small jars of kimchee that hubby likes to dig into. I especially love that they’re open at 8 in the morning! I’m a sucker for Korean places that open early. I always go back…

Good not too expensive food, good for lunch, and it isn’t weird to go alone. You might get looked at a little weird if your not Asian but I’m used to that when I go for Korean

O2 Sushi might be the headliner here, but B Bop offers some fantastic dishes with less high end ingredients. My spicy noodle vegetable bowl was an outstanding mix of fresh flavors. The family service and spotless interior make this an excellent Korean alternative to barbeque or sushi in the same location.

Restaurant opens at 8am but closes between 8−9pm depending on… right…the number of people eating in the restaurant. Not sure if this is a sustainable business model but more power to the current owners that are able to make this happen.

I used to come to this restaurant for lunch all the time until I ordered a bowl of rice cake soup one afternoon. The owner of the restaurant refused to serve me a bowl of rice unless I was willing to pay extra for the rice. She tried to tell me that rice cake soup called Duk Gook doesn’t normally come with rice. I go to other Korean restaurants that serve rice with soups at no extra charge, so I knew she was bull shitting me. I left the restaurant without eating my order. I was 8 month pregnant at the time this incident took place. What a heartless, greedy female restaurant owner!!!

Went for breakfast, I was very impressed! We ordered pork on bone soup(highly recommended) and the beef noodle soup(lots of tasty noodles and a little beef). Came with a few little dishes, and two big bowls of kimchee of different style. One of the bowls of kimchee were one of the best I have ever had, very spicy, I loved it! I look forward to a bowl of soup and spicy kimchee in our near future.

Food here is pretty good. I tried a few dishes: dduk bok ee — pretty good although the sauce was a little too sweet. kong bi jee jiigae — most restaurants make it a little runnier than i like and this was no exception. but it was only $ 7 and tasty. bo ri bi bim bap — this was pretty good. the bo ri(barley) rice does give the rice a different texture so i would recommend that you go with the regular rice unless you really want to avoid carbs. it was pretty good with nice ingredients. they give you 2 small jars of kimchee. you can eat as much as you like with a set of tongs that they leave on the table. i love this. we also got 3 – 4 other small side dishes but they weren’t memorable(eggplant and some other stuff). for some casual food, it’s nice. their hours are a little odd as it’s open mon-thur: 8am-4pm fri-sat: 8am-9pm sun: closed

Fresh hand-made noodles. Nuff said. Rarely, I mean almost never, do restaurants serve noodles that are hand-made but here… That’s a different story. It makes all the difference in the world and I enjoyed every bite of my dinner here. So, why the 4 stars? I ordered seafood noodle soup expecting shrimp, clams, maybe some calamari but all I got were 3 empty clam shells. Sad. Can’t call it seafood soup if there’s no seafood. If this place wasn’t so far away from downtown Seattle, I’d be here every day to get a wonderful serving of «homemade» Korean food.

3.5 Stars Hmmm.this place left me thinking. The food was good and fresh and the waitress was really nice. This leaves me thinking and somewhat confused as I am not sure if, in my opinion, this was an overall good or only-okay experience… The menu is quite small. It was unfortunate that half the menu was in Korean only. We needed the waitress to explain the menu what the menu offered. As a patron, I feel that the menu should accommodate for customers who do not read Korean, thus I find myself docking points for this. The service was also slow, granted, we did go at a «non-peak» time(4:45pm). The waitress was cooking the food herself! The food was fresh and quite tasty, so no complaints there. The price was also decent. A previous review has also mentioned this, but the entrée really doesn’t come with much meat. My boyfriend got the special Jean-ju Bibimbop for $ 5.99. It was a good size on stone pot and it also came with soup. The red pepper paste sauce that you mix into the rice was sweet with an amazing aroma of sesame. The flavour was great and complimented each assortment in the bowl. I got something from the Winter Soups(this was in Korean). I got the Dumpling and rice cake soup($ 6.99). There was a total of three dumplings, but the size justifies the quantity — they were ginormous! The flavour was balanced and it was not too salty. so the food in itself gets a 4 stars. Overall, each quality has a good and a bad side to it, and that is why it left me thinking. It’s like putting me in a hard place and a rock, but somehow you can still find comfort in it. Will try again sometime.

My first bibimbap, Take this from someone who doesn’t have a lot of experience with Korean restaurants or knows any Korean… whatsoever. My wife and I had an hour to kill in Lynwood and we found it via Unilocal. If your maps are acting up it’s accessible from 99. We were the only non-asians in there, waitstaff was very helpful. The menu is maybe about 20% english so if you don’t know what you’re doing you will probably need some guidance. We just asked for something vegetarian and they came back with a pretty simple tasty dish of rice and about 8 – 10 vegetable ingredients and a sesame /chili sauce. Toss it all in together and slowly add the sauce to get the temperature right. Soup and kimchee included and a desert drink. We paid $ 20 for the two of us. I don’t know if I’;ll ever be back around there again but I recommend it. Will definitely try other bibimbap places closer to Seattle.

Boppidee Bop is good. Large portions and kimchee selection was tasty. Cold noodles were good. There are a bunch of other Korean restaurants on 99, but the large portions and presentation stood out a bit. Good lil ma & pa type joint.

A little disappointed, but this place is not a complete loss. My 3rd time visiting this place. Each time, the service has been so-so, food tasted ok, and restaurant seemed pretty clean. Not a huge menu, but that might be the draw — simple. The seafood pancakes were ok at best. Not much seafood, a lot of batter and vegetables instead. The bento box with korean bbq — this is what irked me the most. The korean bbq is just a hamburger patty covered with sauce. When I see«korean bbq» on the menu, I’m expecting buhl gohgee or gahlbee — not a hamburger patty. WTH?!? Anyways, I’m not going to condemn this place in my mind. But, it will be a while before we go there again — if we ever do.

If you want authentic Korean dishes without cutting corners with MSG, you want to try B Bop Fusion Rice Bar. All the dishes tastes authentic and without going overboard on flavors as most Korean restaurants tend to do. I wish it was closer to my hometown, then it’ll be one of the three awesome Korean restaurants I’ll be rotating from. You won’t regret it.

Items Ordered: — Be Bim Bop — Seafood Pancake Overall this place is good. If you’ve ever made Be Bim Bop, one knows it is a very simple dish since it’s just vegetables and the optional egg; however, this dish takes A LOT of preparation time to put together. «B» Bop specializes in just this dish and since I can eat a lot, it’s nice to know that I can fill my bowl all the way up with lots of vegetables. Typically, I eat this at restaurants and usually, I do not get full, because the restaurants don’t fill the bowl to the top. So I find myself eating whatever my wife cannot on her entre as well as the side dishes they serve. I tried the seafood pancake and that was surprising pretty good. Whoever is working the grill in the back sure knows how to add a crispy touch. Typically, this can be an appetizer at any conventional restaurant; however, this is a meal. My mother-in-law loves this place and she’s first generation. We were there on a Monday at 130pm and it was packed. I’ll have to gauge what times are good, so I can avoid the herds.

You cant see it from the road, it’s behind the building you *can* see from 99. 2PM Saturday and the place is packed… with Koreans. A good sign! The place was clean, waitresses were friendly enough. You can get a can of pop here(It’s that kind of place) We ordered the restaurant’s name sake dish, bibimbap. The wait was OK, no complaints. Choose your rice: White or green tea rice Choose your meat: Beef, chicken, tofu(they were out of one of them) Comes in a bowl, off to the 4′ wide«buffet» for a variety of vegetables and slivered eggs to put on top. Choose your sauce: Sesame, chili paste, spicy soy sauce(they were out of spicy soy sauce but she rustled some up for #1 son) My wife said they have a thing like this in China and I’m supposed to mix it all together before eating. OK. Nice! Good lunch. No complaints, she liked it, the kid liked his. They had a couple types of kimchi on the table and some salty little shrimps for seasoning. Lunch was served with miso soup.
