Great food, atmosphere and service. Lunch on Fathers Day was very special at the Corner.

we love The Corner and chose this restaurant to celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary. No other place would even be considered. Food is fantastic and customer service is impeccable. Laura & Chuck Read

What a great dinner spot! Great ambience, very friendly service, and good Southern food. The décor is pretty and homey. And look up at the ceiling for an adorable surprise! There is plenty of both outdoor and indoor seating. The bread came out hot and perfect. It had a crispy crust and soft, warm inside. I was really excited to see grits and gumbo on the menu but I ended up choosing gumbo. It was very yummy(see photo for description of the dish). I don’t usually like okra but it was great in this bowl! I think that there could’ve been a little more meat though. There was only one piece each of the chicken, duck, shrimp, and sausage. We ordered coconut cream pie for dessert and it was DELICIOUS. Please order this dessert, no matter how full you are. You will find room for it.

Overall, the experience at The Corner was decent. The food was outstanding! The service quality was a bit lacking. The charm of the location is definitely a draw and woudl be the reason for a return trip.

We had a party of 6 on a Saturday evening and made reservations easily. We were seated immediately even before our scheduled time. The server was very attentive and had good manners. He refilled our waters quickly when needed. Now to the food. My mother-in-law and I got the basic baked potato which was butter, sour cream and cheese. Based on others reviews, this was not shy on the flavor category and there was plenty of sour cream. We also split a side salad with the dill ranch dressing, not impressed with the field greens, dressing and some cheese. I much appreciate a little tomato in a side salad. The chicken salad plate was ordered and not finished because the overkill taste of mayonnaise. Next person from the group got a steak and he didn’t say much besides that he was upset that he couldn’t tell them how he wanted it cooked. That being said he did still finish it. Rice and beans was also ordered and no true complaints there. Lastly, my husband ordered the fried chicken salad. At partial fault, he didn’t read that the dressing was dill ranch for that salad. He absolutely hates pickles so he asked for something that would counteract the flavor since they don’t have a plain ranch. They brought out a maple bacon something rather. Number 2 on his food hate list is bacon. Needless to say he was a hungry man that just pushed through and ate it. Overall, I think this place has potential to be really nice with the atmosphere and live music. I’d venture to go back for brunch or wine/cheese evening.

What a cute find! The indoor/outdoor seating is great. I love when places have fun menus– not crazy, just a bunch of different things that you think you’d like to try. That was me here. I couldn’t decide between two and went with the burger and fries — it was great! The waiter was great with our medium size group and overall had a nice experience. From salads, sandwiches to waffles with fried duck — great menu.

Went today for Mothers Day brunch and boy what an amazing experience! From the hostess who seated us immediately even though we were quite early for our reservation to the wonderful woman who I assume was either the owner or management who came to our table to explain in delightful detail the springtime sangria special drink of the day. Our server was just as spectacular always attentive and available for any request. The food was spectacular, we had the duck wings with waffles, the French toast with bacon and the steak and eggs plate. All were incredibly fresh and the size was just enough to satisfy. No room for dessert this time but we will definitely be back when we bring our daughter back to Liberty University in August!

The Good — when we arrived we were seated right away even before our reservation time, that was excellent. When trying to figure out what to eat from their ample selection, the hostess offered my mother some glasses since she was having trouble reading the menu, that was also awesome! The ambiance was also great, which can be hard to find in Lynchburg. The bad — Three members of our party ordered the grilled chicken salad. The chicken on all of them tasted burnt. The odd thing is the chicken didn’t really look terribly burnt, so perhaps it was a dirty grill? I can’t be certain, however everyone removed the chicken from the salad. That being said the rest of the salad was delicious apparently as was everyone else’s meals. Restaurant staff removed the chicken from the table since everyone had pulled it out of the salad. We were surprised to see that no discount was offered at the end. After a request, a two dollar discount was applied to the salads(making them equal to the price of the same salad with no chicken). I would have expected this to occur without a request, especially since the manager(I think it was the manager at least) removed the chicken from the table in the first place. And the last negative comment is the shear time it took to get food and then the time to receive the bill followed by the time required to pay the bill. We were at the restaurant for over two hours, most of that being wait time for food and paying the bill. Overall — Overall it was a nice place, and I may go again. The biggest hit is that we had to request a discount, I just feel that should be automatic. The wait time was less than optimal but perhaps it was an isolated event. The rest of our food was great and the place certainly has a nice feel. So overall I give it a 3.

Close but lacking in touches that would make dishes above average. Brunch French toast had uncooked bananas. Grill them a bit in butter and brown sugar and make a decent C+ dish an A. Gumbo had 1 dry shrimp and maybe two small slices of sausage. For $ 15 serving was small with no bread to fill out the dish. Rice was overcooked. For $ 10 in expensive Seattle I can get Pike Place Market water view and A+++ gumbo that is filling for rest of day plus excellent housemade breads. Maybe I’ll try dinner – maybe not.

We like happy hour bits a lot of fried foods but still yummy and inexpensive. We have also tried many of the main dishes and have never been disappointed. Is a fun experience on The Avenue!

We have been here a couple times now and I have to commend them on their excellent cooking and customer service. The food is well-sourced southern cuisine. The Chef takes great pride in his product. This restaurant offers what a local experience should be. We have multiple food considerations in our family. They took it as a challenge and we all ended up thrilled with our meals. Lastly, the pecan pie is the best I’ve ever had. Ever.

Valentine’s brunch at the corner! Fabulous moose mix spicy Moose Mix Bloody Mary. Smoked salmon and a fried egg over greens with a maple balsamic vinaigrette. Coconut cream pie that was very different from the coconut cream pie I really loved on a visit a month ago. Good, but it wasn’t the same as last months pie. Service was very good. Atmosphere lovely.

The food here is yummy! I had the French Toast, scrumptious bacon and the fresh squeezed orange juice. It was really tasty! They put just enough syrup on my french toast. I had enough left but it wad a perfect amount. I will definitely be back for more of this goodness. The menu was pretty simplified but had enough options to find somethings that you would like. It’s surely something for everyone! The environment is fresh, relaxing and comfy. The waiter Hillary was really sweet and fadhionable. Our food arrived quickly and she checked in on us multiple times and ensured our glasses were filled! Be sure to stop by and have your experience at the wisonderful place. You won’t regret it!

Holy southern brunch Batman! Mangia, the place I frequented the most for brunch, has been put to rest. No need to even mourn it, because in its place a new brunch spot has risen. Note: The Corner is open for dinner. This is just a brunch review. My Unilocal/real life friend Vinny N. suggested this place when I came back into town and I am so glad I listened. The difference between Mangia and The Corner is incredible. Small things make the Corner better. The patio has been extended so there’s more tables for people to sit outside making it look less cramped. The inside space is wonderful. Mangia always feel dark and dim. The Corner opens itself. Light pours in and gives the lighter feeling that comes with a brighter more open space. All six people at our table loved our meals. No one left unsatisfied. Portion sizes were perfect. Let’s chat about the service because it just deserves an Oscar. We had an issue with an overcooked egg and they immediately apologized, cooked it again and brought us dessert samples. This place gets southern hospitality right and I can not wait to go back.

The Corner has a great ambiance in the afternoon as sunlight filters in the door and windows. The food is good. We had the meatloaf burger and pork sliders as well as creole fries and sweet potato fries. I was super impressed by the sweet potato fries: usually when restaurants make them as shoestrings, they taste too crisp and burnt. Not so at The Corner! The sweet potato flavor held through the frying! For dessert we had delicious chocolate chess pie.

We have eaten dinner and brunch at the Corner and have loved everything we tried. The menu changes regularly and they use local ingredients which this locavore loves! The chef’s creative and fresh interpretations of classic dishes is such a welcome change. It keeps us interested and excited to go back. Additionally, the waitstaff is friendly and very knowledgable about all items on the menu, they make you feel like you are the only customer in the restaurant. I can’t wait to go back!

This place used to be Mangia, which was one of the worst restaurants we had in Lynchburg, and I’m so happy that there is now a place on Rivermont that isn’t a complete train wreck. The service is great. Our server Liz took great care of us, and the manager stopped by a few times to make sure everything was going ok. I think they are trying to shake off the bad vibes that Mangia had going, which explains why everyone was so intent on making sure we were happy. Very professional atmosphere, but not too pretentious(it is low country comfort food after all). The food is awesome. I had the mussels with grits. Delicious. My wife had the peanut crusted salmon, which was a small portion, but wonderful. I also really love the tap wine idea. It makes it exciting to order a glass of wine for some reason, and you don’t run the risk of them giving you a glass from a bottle they opened 4 days ago. Always fresh wine. We had bananas foster for desert. Awesome. So good. Rich, wonderful presentation, delicious. A few minor cons: The inside, I think due to the acoustics of the room, is really loud. There’s not too much they can do about that, but I did have to shout sometimes to be heard. My mussels were served over this AMAZING sauce, but I was never given a spoon to scoop it up, and the grits, while delicious, were a very small portion, so I didn’t really have a way to soak up the amazing sauce aside from asking my waitress to keep bringing more bread. I felt bad after asking twice for bread, so I couldn’t really get all the sauce(and man did I want it.) The beer selection is acceptable, but no draft beer?! C’mon! I don’t go out to order a bottle of beer. Not a big deal, but I wish they had at least a tap or two. Is this place perfect? No. They have some kinks to work out. Are they trying? Oh yeah. The manager actually came up to me with a notepad and asked how they could have improved my experience. That’s the kind of humility I like to see in a restaurant. Overall, I had a really tasty, fun, and memorable dinner here. Support them.
