The ownership of this restaurant changed quite some time ago and I must say that their quality of food was gone down… way way down. I was so disappointed in the food although the service was ok. But then again, how could the service be bad if you’re the only customer in the place? I really miss the old Satsuki. Not going back here again.

The location is quite odd because it is right under the train tracks but the atmosphere of the restuarant itself is very nice. It is well maintained. They have limited staff. I went the other day and there was no body manning the front desk and two guys in the kitchen. The portion size is a bit small for the price. I have had larger pieces of salmon for a salmon teriyaki for the same price. Their unagi don is okay. Not as well done as other places, but decent. They had a seafood soup back in the summer that was quite delightful. My friends love the ramen here though. The sushi was not very fresh. I ordered a simple philly roll and there was salmon juice coming out. I am not sure how I feel about that because I have never encountered this when I eat any raw fish.

I love the Japanese cuisines here! I can surely wanna come back here for more. Thanks to my friends who came along with me on the gathering of our team. I was craving for the sushi and ramen here in a Japanese ambiance. This place is kinda homey and you can surely get an authentic and truly Asian and Japanese setup of your whole time. Best date ever!

Came in on a late night and it was empty. The staff is very very friendly which was nice. Ordered a sushi appetizer which came out fresh and delicious. But the main reason that we came here for was a craving for ramen. The bowl was large and came with pork, egg, nori, bamboo and bean sprouts. Some red spicy things in it but it was also tasty. The noodles were delicious slurping them down and the pork was very tender I wish there was more. 4 out of 5 since the broth was good but could have had a bit more flavor to it Overall, I would return for more ramen since it’s pretty local and the staff was just very nice. You get a very family/cozy feeling in there. They never rushed us at all and it was a bit near closing time too. Complimentary slices of orange at the end of the meal was a nice treat to add!

First time here with 4 friends. We came around 930 and it was empty which tends to scare us. Staff was very nice. We tried the ramen, chicken teriyaki and some ala carte sushi. Ramen was a bit bland but all in all everything else was very good

Very nice place. Personal friendly service and outstanding creative food. You will not get this food or service in a big absent owner managed place. They are also very accommodating to your food needs. I always like to patronize the small local business owner and this is one of the finest around. Not like a Sushi Factory. It is well worth trying to see for yourself.

If you like homey and friendly authentic Japanese place, this is a good place to go. This place has both authentic and Americanized sushi. I went there after the peak of dinner time. So only two groups of customers were eating at that time. Some of the wait staff are Japanese. I don’t know if the chef is Japanese American or Chinese American. Every staff workers were extremely friendly. Even chef came and greeted to us. They asked where we were from and so happy to find out I came from Queens. They told other customer group where I came from. Also, they told us so happily that other customers came all the way from Brooklyn. I thought staff were very nice, but I wished we had more time to enjoy food alone. They served us complementary delicious monk fish liver. I thought that was very nice. Actually, their food was very good. So I want to go back there, but next time I will go there in peak time on purpose so that we will have more time to be alone to concentrate on eating food. Next time, if I go there when they are busy, I feel like I will give them 4 stars.

This place is one of those places where every staff member is eager to pitch in to keep the customers happy and keep the work flow efficient. Meichi, the elder of the restaurant is absolutely the most adorable and friendly waitress! She always have a sweet smile on her face and checks in with you every now and then like the customers are her children. When it gets busy and Meichi is running around, Eric the sushi chef is close enough to the tables to ask what you need from behind the sushi bar. Talk about efficient right? I have been here only two times but they already remembered my name and even offered me a free dish on the second visit! Okay, so you know by now their service is impeccable. So what about their food? I haven’t tried too many things on the menu but I love that they did not hesitate to make a veggie ramen for me even though it was not on the menu when I told them I don’t eat pork(a staple for Japanese ramen). The spicy tuna roll is still my favorite.

This is my first time going back to this place since new ownership. I didn’t check the menu since I ordered what I used to order and the menu looked the same. For me, the taste didn’t change a lot but the portion seems smaller. At the end I found the price went up dramatically — for my order, it went up 45%. Although I liked to come here, but I guess I will go less often with all these changes.

To agree with Steve and to disagree with John, 90% of the Japanese restaurants aren’t owned or operated by Japanese people. Japanese sushi chefs would not want to come to America to make sushi and real Japanese food isn’t California rolls or any special roll you see in America. Would you say Gordan Ransay can’t cook French cuisine because he isn’t French? Same concept, personally I loved the sashimi and I like to have a thicker cut when eating sushi. If you like it cut thin, you can ask the waiter to cut it thin. John simply wasn’t open minded because he was in love with the old restaurant.

ALERT ******** SATSUKI has been sold. Like the cycle of life, the greatness of Satsuki has come to an end. Instead of delicate, thin sliced top grade tuna(translucent Grade 1 sushi — top quality) the tuna is now Grade 2 or 3, sliced really thick(larger portion, lesser quality) to satisfy American tastes(and sushi quality ignorance) The cooked food is «OK» but a shell of its former glory. If you like Chinese sushi, thick slices, eaten American style — go — you will enjoy. If you like Japanese style excellence, look elsewhere. The gig is up.

I had no idea this hidden gem existed in Lynbrook, until several people told me it was there favorite sushi spot. Obviously intrigued, I needed to try it for myself. Very small space, quaint, slightly old-school and very out-dated décor, I knew their food had to be delicious and fresh for people to keep coming back. Their rolls are very simple, but super fresh and very tasty. I ordered rolls with tuna and salmon and was not disappointed. Don’t expect to come here and get a bunch of japanese appetizers and other kinds of dishes… as far as I saw on their menu, they don’t have much other than sushi. Which is fine by me. My one complaint was that I wasn’t over the moon about their ginger dressing, but I can get over that. Their staff is super friendly. Be sure to make a reservation because they only have a couple of tables. I can’t believe i’m just trying this place when it’s been serving up quality japanese for years now.

Reading current vs. older reviews of this place, I can only assume that the restaurant must have switched management sometime in the last few years but kept the name. These days the restaurant is operated by a humble, adorable Japanese family. In any conventional modern restaurant, I might impulsively get peeved when a server takes too much time, but it’s a little harder when it’s a sweet granny who is carefully executing her job with a sense of purpose and ritualistic veneration for the food she’s serving. Everything from the women’s kitchen aprons to the hot water dispenser on the counter made me feel like I’d stumbled into an Asian home. When I ate here, I sampled only cold dishes. The tuna carpaccio was topped with fish roe and a drizzle of Asian-influenced vinaigrette. Very simple, but elegant and well-prepared. There’s a great combination plate that allows you to pick out several rolls for a good price, the variety includes both traditional and more«Americanized» options(for those who like their rolls with cream cheese and teriyaki sauce). Don’t expect flashy sushi couture art projects; this is no-frills sushi that is just reliably good. In summary: the food is straight-forward and prepared with skilled hands. If you’re not a fan of sexy, dance-club-inspired sushi lounges, then you’ll likely be charmed by this warm, family-owned shop.

Hands down one of my favorite japanese restaurants ever. Every time you walk in you feel like you are seeing family. The fish is always fresh. The tamago is some of the best that I’ve ever had. I love this place and will continue going for many years because it is so tasty.

A few years back, I think this place was voted one of the best sushi places on Long Island. Being I love sushi, and this place is located in my hometown, you’d think I would have rushed to try it. But, only recently I decided to experience the greatness they call Satsuki, under the LIRR. I now consider myself a regular. It is a small restaurant, like most of the sushi places I have been to. When there is only one guy making the sushi, too many tables can mean trouble. Hand rolls take mastery to create, so I appreciate and understand the need for a small place. I found the staff to be very friendly. They are very accommodating to those who have trouble with chopsticks. I once saw an older gentleman trying to get the hang of the sticks clumsily, but also refusing the offer of a fork. The waitress brought over this little plastic thing that clipped on the end of the chopsticks and made it easier for him to use. It brought me back to the many years I struggled with chopsticks. I wish I had that back then. Now, onto the best part — the food! I always order the three roll special. You can pick three out of fifteen rolls, and also get a bowl of miso soup and a salad(only $ 18.) The ginger salad dressing is by far my favorite here. It has a little kick! I always choose the eel, salmon skin, and California rolls. You can substitute cucumber for scallion in most of the rolls, which I love. I always make sure I am extra hungry when I order this meal, because it is a lot of food — AND you just can’t wrap leftover sushi to go. You have to check on the hours. I know they are not open on Mondays. On weekdays, they are open for lunch from 12:00 — 2:30, but then close until 5:30, and re-open for dinner. I have walked into this place, Wednesday at 5:45 and was turned away for not having a reservation. Following night, I went back at the same time, and I was the only diner. It could be a hit or miss for walk-ins. Lynbrook is a small town, so it really is a treat having this little jewel tucked under the nosy LIRR. *Extra silly thing that made me happy about this place: You order a diet soda and they ask«Coke or Sprite Zero!» Usually you don’t have the option. Sprite Zero all the way!!!

Delcious Japanese food at affordable prices. Sushi and sashimi are quite fresh and the cooked food is delicious. Had the spicy chicken mayonnaise and it was delectable. The mayonnaise wasn’t too overwhelming and the chicken is moist and tender

Without a doubt the best sushi you will find on LI in my opinion. It’s a tiny little place so I would call ahead to make a reservation. Also, there is 1 guy who makes the sushi so prepare to sit awhile because they take their time so you really have to know what your getting into when you go there. The sushi is very fresh and I love love love the ginger dressing and the pork dumplings are a personal favorite of mine too.

Had the opportunity to eat at Satsuki when I was nearby and needed to kill an hour or two on a Friday night. I looked for a nearby sushi bar and was intrigued by the few reviews I read. The restaurant in small, staff is very friendly and the service was excellent. The menu is easy to navigate with traditional Japanese noodle dishes, a nice assortment of appetizers and a full range of sushi rolls as well as sushi/sashimi entrees. I made it very simple, I ordered the sushi/sashimi combination as I was not in the mood for large amounts of rice that rolls generally have. I read one Unilocalers review about the freshness of the fish and that aided in my decision. A delicious bowl of miso soup, a small salad of iceberg(not my favorite) lettuce with your standard Ginger dressing and a cup of wonderfully brewed hot tea to start. Then came my combination platter, artistically laid out in a traditional Japanese round tray, Delicious yellow tail, tuna, eel, tuna rolls, a piece of seared mackerel and more. The sushi here is so fresh and you can definitely taste the difference from others Japanese restaurants, We frequent Minado in Carle Place as it is the best all you can eat Sushi and value for the money. I forgot how much better really fresh fish, prepared by a real Sushi Chef, can be. This restaurant is a winner!!!

Newsday’s #2 best sushi on Long Island? You’ve got to be kidding. First of all, we walked in and the old Chinese lady asked if we had reservations. There are literally 8 tables in the place, 4 of them were occupied and she had the nerve to ask if we had reservations. She grimaced for a bit, doodled on her notepad and looked genuinely distressed until she finally conceded to letting us sit down. The service was slow as hell. Understandable, since there was only one waitress and one sushi chef. The steak takaki was actually just a few thin strips of roast beef samples I could have gotten for free at the King Kullen deli counter. The sushi hand rolls were nothing special and tiny, we had to order 2 more rolls after our dinner bc we were still hungry. They charge you an extra .50 cents for caviar on top of the roll, where it comes standard in 99% of other sushi restaurants. Listening to the LIRR train directly above us shake the whole building made for a particularly romantic setting. The lighting was very bright, reminiscent of my elementary school cafeteria. I’d love to meet the person who decided it was the #2 sushi restaurant on LI so I can punch him in the throat and then take him to Mitsui to show him what real sushi tastes like… then make him pay for my dinner this past weekend because it was a complete and total waste. This place blows.
