Cowboy Chicken. All I can think of when I hear«Cowboy Chicken» is a cowboy in an old western riding on a horse with a bucket of KFC in his hands. This is not what Cowboy Chicken is. Surprise! I don’t know why but it took me awhile to try out Cowboy Chicken even though it has been in Lubbock for a bit and now has two locations. I bit the bullet and decided it had been long enough and I needed to try it out. Wow am I glad I bit that bullet. Their menu has so much more than their tasty wood fired chicken. The enchiladas are amazing and very flavorful with a perfect tasty tomatillo sour-cream sauce. They also have salads, bbq chicken and even a wide array of sandwiches. Sometimes when menus are scattered like this they don’t specialize in anything and everything taste mediocre. This is not the case for Cowboy Chicken. They have a wide variety of options and they have perfected them all. The side options are extensive and overwhelmingly delicious. It is hard to choose. I have indulged in the fries(YUM), the twice baked taters(in mashed potato form with yummy cheese and bacon), the creamed spinach(my personal favorite, it tastes homemade, packed with fresh spinach and perfectly creamy), and the sweet potato. I am sure their other sides don’t disappoint either. The wood fired chicken is really impressive. It is seasoned just right so it has a nice flavor without being too salty or spicy. The moistness of the chicken is really where they earn all their points. It is perfectly cooked and tenderly peeling off the bone. This makes it easy to eat and very satisfying. This specific location has also offered me a clean eating area, a friendly staff, and a really hip, well lit atmosphere. This is great place to meet a friend for lunch, or bring the whole extended family. They have room for all. The best secret about Cowboy Chicken is their lunch special. A leg and thigh, two sides, and a roll all for a low $ 5.99, are you kidding me? I couldn’t even begin to make that meal for $ 5.99. Got try it out for yourself!

I’ve gone twice now to Cowboy Chicken, both times have been good. I did a sandwich the first and enchiladas the second. Only negative comment k have is that when eating the enchiladas because of them being served on the metal plate there was a slight metallic taste I started to taste. Otherwise good place and friendly staff.

VERY small portions. Taste was ok. Price too high for the amount of food you get. Indifferent employees.

This review is for the university avenue location. The chicken was undercooked. The sides and the chicken were both cold. Terrible place, would never go back.

We stopped here for a quick post-couple-massage. It was not quick and it was not tasty. The place didn’t seem very clean somehow, a lot of things on the floor and more flies than I would like. The staff was friendly. It took our food 20 minutes to come out. The chicken taco was impossible to eat in the sense everything kept falling out of the fried bread taco«shell.» It was just a whole chicken breast, dry and tasteless and beans, shopped up squash, etc. I gave up after a few bites. I gave it to my spouse who deconstructed it, leaving the chicken breast alone. Spouse Dale says HIS rotisserie chicken was cold and dry. Positive points of the meal were: Creamed spinach, kettle fries, and corn fritters. Every thing else: Not worth having again.

My wife and I tried Cowboy Chicken tonight. She said she’d give her BBQ Chicken Sandwich«ten stars out of ten». She commented that her fries were too salty, however. But overall she was very pleased. I had the Cowboy Chicken Sandwich. It was perfect. The bread. The lettuce. The chicken. The sauce. Yum. I had a sweet potato with it, which was also cooked just right. We had peach cobbler with ice cream afterwards. It was not perfect, but still very good. The guy working the register was too notch – friendly and enthused. One of the ladies who was tending to the chicken roasting and to the beverage area was full of complaints about having to do her job; she could use an attitude adjustment. We would visit again. Overall a great place to eat!

Very good food… everything was on point. Only thing I would work on it desserts. Not very fresh, to me. Servers were super friendly and helpful. Would been a 5 if cobbler was better.
