Bonnie’s Country Kitchen

Heard about it from a co-​worker shortly after moving into town. She said to expect to be scrutinized by the staff and locals because newbies stick out like a sore thumb, but that the food was good. Well, she was half-​right. We felt we were ignored because we weren’t regulars. We asked for ketchup to go with a burger and fries and never got it. There were only a few tables being served so it’s not that difficult. Food from the frozen dinner aisle would have been better. Will never go back.

I’d heard that the crab cakes were good but never tried them. Today I did. They were very good. Tasty, nice crisp outside, moist and flavorful inside. Just a hint of old bay and mayo keeps it tasty without making it heavy, or overpowering the delicate crab. Platter comes with fries, coleslaw and pickles. I join the other voices that recommend Bonnie’s crab cakes.

Good breakfast. Portions were sizable and waitress kept the coffee topped off. Would return.

The waitress was lovely and the atmosphere was very pleasant. However the food was horrible. Country fried steak was worse than dreary. I expect chopped «steak», but the coating was mushy instead of crunchy and the gravy obviously came right out of a bottle. The mashed potatoes would have been ok, had they not be doused with the same gravy. On a bright note, the commercial bottled pickled beets were nice. The barbeque sandwich (which they had the nerve to feature) was horrible. I won’t be back to check the rest of the menu.

I’m in the area a lot, I haven’t yet had a good experience at Bonnie’s. It’s diner food, and it’s never been bad. The food takes forever, however, to get to the table. I just went there, I was the only person ordering food in the place, and a chicken sandwich and fries took 25 minutes. This is now the third straight time this is happened, so I think it’s fair to call this a trend.

We love going to Bonnie’s for the atmosphere and for the food. My favorite is the crabcakes, which deserve every inch of acclaim they have gotten. The atmosphere may be a little unsettling for first time patrons, only in that it is a very Mom & Pop, seat yourself in the diner kind of feel. But after we figured this out, we enjoy seeing neighbors and hearing local news and gossip. It’s almost like Cheers, done as a diner.
They can get rather busy and crazy but they do try to get everyone served and helped.
The staff is very accommodating and will try hard to deal with special requests, group seating, or whatever else you need. They often remember their regulars and even your typical orders, which is kind of neat and not done much anymore.
My only real disappointment is that their hours are more limited than we would like, so often when we’d like to go, they are closed. Also a minor quibble; I wish they would serve real butter with bread and grits, instead of margarine or other unhealthy plastic faux butter. A small thing, but matters to me.
Definitely a local landmark not to be missed.
P. S. — the address on this entry is wrong. I have sent in a correction twice but it hasn’t been fixed. It’s on Berlin TURNPIKE, not Park (no such place).

I did like this little country kitchen, until the staff was rude for no reason. I called to order and the lady on the phone asked me if I was doing curbside. I said «yes» since it’s much easier than dragging my younger two kids in and them running all around the place. I didn’t know curbside was even offered until the lady told me. So I thought this was great! Well it ended up not being so great. After 25 minutes, I called the restaurant and said «I was just wondering if the food was ready». The woman on the phone tells me «Yes but I have to get these other peoples food out. Unless you want to come in, I’ll bring it out when I can.» Ummmm ok (thought in my head at the moment). I said «Ok, just checking. Thank you.» Then the woman just hangs up. Overall, curbside shouldn’t be offered if you can’t take care of the customers outside. To top it off, my change was practically thrown at me. So needless to say, I won’t be going back to this restaurant. I live 2 seconds from it and I would prefer to drive much further for better customer service.

The food was good but the waitress is absent minded. We asked her three different times for refills and she walked by like we didn’t exist. Would have received a higher rating if not for the poor waitressing.

This place can mess up even breakfast or a burger. We’ve eaten here many times since we relocated to this area. Every time has been a bad experience. Undercooked, overlooked, poorly cooked, wrong food, wrong drinks, waitresses with attitude, etc. you name it, we’ve experienced it! I guess tourists to this area expect bad food since its the country so they rate it fairly well. Guess what — even the country mice expect better than this! I can’t believe this place has remained in business now that there are actually real restaurants here. If you’re looking for breakfast, you’re better off at even McDonald’s.

Stopped in for lunch yesterday and the entire staff was friendly, the waitress was very attentive and the food was delicious! I had the pulled pork-​b-​que (pork barbecue) on a sub roll, which came out quick, hot, fresh and delicious! Definitely a nice, casual place to go for lunch in Lovettsville, VA.
P. S. And they serve Mountain Dew! What’s not to love about this place?

Typical diner menu. Got lunch here, food was very greasy. Staff was very friendly and service was good. Nothing special.
