Best sandwich in Louisville by miles. I’ve been a fan and customer for many, many years. You can’t not love this place, especially if you’re a fan of the true East Coast sub sandwich. I get the #19, as it comes, on white with pickles/peppers on the side. That’s what they call the«super special», and it involves a little bit of everything they do so well. Real lunch meats and cheese, topped off with lettuce, onion, and tomato, crowned with salt, pepper, oregano, and oil & vinegar. It is so good. I’ve toned it down to the half size, skip the chips, because I’m trying to stay under 200lb. But I’d happily destroy a whole one if I wasn’t worried about buttoning my pants. Only thing to watch out for here is the insanity in the parking lot, its hard to get in or out. And with many businesses close by they are super busy at lunch time. Not much in the way of parking plus super busy lunch equals potential for mass mayhem!

This place was ok I wouldn’t come back for a second time. I ordered a blt on a hoagie and it had thin tiny bacon 3 baby strips. And my husbands meat was slimy.

If you like to watch your food be microwaved in front of you eat here. The best thing on the menue were the Doritos. This place in not worth the money. Speedway has better food.

Subs, the way they were meant to be. There are a few of the«other» sub restaurants within 3 miles of me. When I want a «SUB», I’ll drive the 8 miles to get a Sub Station sub. My favorite is the #19. But all that I have tried are great.

I was very misled by the 4.5 star rating. It’s a decent sandwich place, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it, nor would I go back anytime soon. The sandwiches aren’t bad, but they aren’t great. My wife got the turkey and cheese and it was dressed well but the turkey wasn’t as good as other mom and pop delis I’ve been to. I got the meatball which was all right but would have been better if they toasted it in an oven instead of putting the cheese on top and microwaving it in a styrofoam container. All in all our experience kind of a let down.

This place just gets it. The subs are simply delicious. The combination of fresh ingredients, a friendly, hard working staff and classic no nonsense atmosphere make this place a must. Even for those who aren’t fans of sandwiches, SubWay, Jimmy Johns, Penn Station, etc. This place is different. It doen’t have the corporation feel. This is how I’d make a sandwich at home if I had the ability. There’s a reason this place has been around for so long. So next time you have a hankering for a good sandwich, skip SubWay and get the sandwich you deserve. Fresh really does make a difference. Well worth it. Oh… and the bread is amazing.

I grew up on these subs, and since I moved away from the area I hadn’t been back in years. My mistake. When I finally returned, I was taken right back to my childhood. The ingredients are fresh and I love the vinegar and oregano. And unlike Subway, you don’t have to list all the things you want or don’t want on your sub. They come standard with things like lettuce and tomatoes, and they have no problem adding or leaving things off. And the pickle spears are a nice side. Go here — you won’t be disappointed!

Let me start by saying that I do not like sandwiches. I hate Subway, Jimmy Johns, Quiznos etc. But this place is a whole different level. The bread is excellent, light, and fresh. The meats and cheeses are sliced thin and the lettuce is shredded. The only thing better than all of that is the salad dressing. Not for a salad but for your sandwich. It is incredible. Do not get a sandwich without the salad dressing. Looks like a typical sub shop on the inside but the food sets it apart.

Subway is dead to me now. If you want a sub that will really impress you– go to substation. I like the number 19. Thier subs are bigger, fresher, and tastier. Everyone is nicer and it doesn’t feel like such a generic chain. Do yuhself a favor!

They have been around ever since I can remember and there is nothing like trying to take on a full #13. Yes it has been a while since I have been there, but I try to make a trip to that side of town just to stop in for a sub. I wish Subway was modeled after this place rather than what they became. Much better quality of meat and cheese than most sub places. Meatball sub is a family favorite as well as the fully dressed #13. As I grew up I realized I can do without the oil and it still tastes great. The last star would be given if they made the dining room a little nicer, or atleast change it from the 80’s, and add some specials each month.

I have been enjoying the #18 sandwich at SSII for over 10 years. I work nearby and look forward to lunch at least once per week at Substation. I highly recommend their sandwiches. They are close to I-65 so it is an easy stop if you are on your way through Louisville. Stop in and say hi to the owner Chip who works there almost every day!

I may have been one of the first customers who dined at Sub Station when it opened its doors a block up Fern Valley from its current location back in the late 70s when I was attending Watterson College up the street. Through the years, I have come back to partake of one of the better sub sandwiches in Louisville. Theirs is a more an old school take on a sub, rather than dressing it up with fancy breads and such. Meats and cheese are sliced up for your sandwich when you order like in an old deli rather than being sliced up in the morning and wrapped in wax paper like a lot places do nowadays. The rolls are always fresh with a good texture and the meats are also fresh with nice flavors. This is not the fanciest place, and a couple of my friends don’t like it because they serve cold subs and my wife doesn’t care for the mayo they serve, but I have enjoyed it for three decades and will probably keep coming back for some time to come.
