Can we take a moment for the fries from Johnny’s Diner Car? I mean(doing my best George Takei impression), «Ooooh myyyyyyy!» I got to try both the garlic/sea salt fries as well as the Parmesan truffle fries at the Lock, Stock and Smoking Barrels event at Copper & Kings over the weekend. My friends came back with fries and sandwiches from Johnny’s Diner Car, and after sampling a few(or more) of the fries, I knew I had to get some for myself. The Parmesan truffle fries were my favorite. Johnny’s definitely didn’t skimp on the truffles or cheese. These fries were decadent and savory, plus they were thick yet still crispy. You could tell these were freshly made and hadn’t been stewing in their juices. And along with being generous with the ingredients, Johnny’s was also generous with their serving size. I got the meal option that included a sandwich and fries, which was about $ 12, and probably got a few handful of fries with it. For the sandwich, I opted for the Average Joe, which is Johnny’s basic steak sandwich. This was good. The steak was well seasoned, but next time I am getting a sandwich with some more ingredients on it. Perhaps I’ll get the«Juke Box,» which comes topped with Cheez Whiz, like other Philly cheese steaks. And there will be a next time. I can’t wait to find Johnny’s out and about.

Yeah, OK. This is a solid food truck. I enjoyed and will eat it again. So, as you can tell from the pictures and their website(if you’ve been there), it’s pretty much steak sandwiches and fries. Which is fine. I don’t know anyone that doesn’t like steak and fries. On this occasion, I went with the Twist and Shout. It’s a steak sandwich that is covered in their homemade BBQ sauce. He offered grilled onions, which I accepted. Now, because this is a food truck, I found him at an event(Butchertown Art Fair), so I made sure to ask if I will immediately need to run to the nearest bathroom after having eaten the sandwich. He assured me that would not be the case, because it’s not greasy. He was right. It wasn’t greasy. And I didn’t have any«issues.» I couldn’t tell if the sandwich was disgusting or really good. Probably both. You know what I mean. It tasted really nice, but it was very sloppy and messy. As is the case with any restaurant/food truck that I enjoy, I would like to try it again and get something different. Just want to explore the menu. But if this food truck is in your area, hit it up and you won’t be disappointed.

Johnny’s Diner Car came by our building in Shepherdsville for lunch today, he may have picked the wrong day though because it was pizza day in our warehouse and not too many people came out, plus it was freezing cold. Johny(I assume the cook was Johnny) was great at selling us on the food. He described each sandwich in detail, where the ingredients all came from(most were sourced locally) and how everything was made. I ordered the Izzi which had the sweetest sauteed onions and a locally made sweet mustard sauce. I was not super impressed with the bread, it was too thick, or needed more juice from the meat, but it was made locally too. The meat was tasty, and the sandwich came with fries and a drink for $ 10.00. The fries were over salted for my taste but I tend to not salt anything, everyone else with me enjoyed them. I hope he made enough to make it worthwhile to come see us again at , next time avoid pizza day though. Oh, BTW his paint job on the truck is pretty slick too.
