A cool little dive bar with karaōke. Apparently they are closing this Saturday which makes me a little sad so y’all should try to get out there before then! They have a few good beer choices and they even have a bunch of Flight of the Conchords songs on the karaōke machine! How can you not love that? If you want a song and it’s not in the book just ask and they may have it!

I love me some karaōke. And lord knows I love dive bars. But this place was definitely a middle-ground place for me, if there ever was one. That they have karaōke redeems it. It was my first time here, and I wish I had known that they were a beer-only establishment. I am not a beer drinker. I also really REALLY wish that the bathroom doors had locks. On the Women’s in particular(but let’s be honest… many times at dive bars gender-separated bathrooms mean jack-shit). I may be back because of proximity and karaōke. But I would rather go to other places.

The main thing you need to know about Groucho’s and its karaōke holdings is that they are extensive. So 5-stars on that salient point. The DJing and overall flow of karaōke is also top notch. Few gaps, extra mikes for duets that arrive ahead of time, and so forth. We took a dozen people to join the regulars on Saturday night, March 22nd. People were writing down odd selections not listed in the«official» catalog, dropping them at the booth, and then without question their names were called(why there is an «official» shortlisted catalog at Groucho’s is a mystery to me but this DJ has it… just ask or go ahead and submit your slip). Additionally, the folks here are affable and supportive in a way that makes it the best karaōke experience I’ve ever enjoyed. Groucho’s has a high crowd participation factor. Modest surroundings, but it’s nice that the karaōke stage is in the back so everything flows nicely and you can«step on» when it’s your time or «step back» and catch your breath later. Groucho’s is on the northwestern edge of the trendy Schnitzelbzurg area; generally a safe area, but it’s the city. Please be aware of your surroundings when coming and going and have a great time.

My friends and I love this place. There are a few downsides, if you pay with a card you have to charge at least a $ 10 minimum. There isn’t really any food to speak of, and the beers are a little pricey. But the atmosphere is so cool, there is Karaōke every night, the bartender and KJ are a lot of fun, and very chill people. The crowd is always a ragtag group of bohemians. There is always a terribly ridiculous B-movie playing on the TV. The walls always have local art on display/for sale. I think this place might be a ‘love it or you hate it’ but we really love the place and recommend it to all of our friends when they just want to sing their hearts out. If you are looking for a karaōke place in Louisville be sure to stop by.

Groucho’s is a hidden Louisville gem! We only found out about Groucho’s on our last night in Lousiville before we moved 2,000 miles away. We were so bummed! They have a pretty good beer selection(unfortunately, no wine) and some bottled wine coolers. The karaōke set-up is totally awesome — a much bigger selection than other karaōke bars(ahem… Akiko’s) I’ve been to. What is even better? You actually get a chance to sing. Because Groucho’s is not as well known, not as many people go there. Their beer is cheaper & you actually get to sing. My friends and I sang at least 4 songs a piece! It was such a fun night & I am still searching Vegas for a Groucho’s!

Many of my five star reviews are given out to places that have it ALL. Just to be upfront, Groucho’s has hardly anything(tangible, that is). For a karaōke joint, technology(the TV at least) is not their forte. For a bar, alcohol is not their strong suit either. Just beer here. Even with little to offer, Groucho’s is just one of those places that is the only logical place to go during a specific time of night, aka anytime past getting sloshed. Like I said, it’s loads of fun after a long night out with friends. But, it’s like when you’re a kid and you and friends get out of school to go hang out in one of your latchkey friend’s basement. It’s fun not because there’s tons of cool and fancy things, but just because of the non-judgmental company and the freedom that comes without pretenses.

My favorite place for karaōke. Even on a crowded night, you never feel like you’re stuck at the bottom of the list. Great staff, good atmosphere, and a generally judgement-free clientele make this a fun and comfortable place, even for those who«don’t do karaōke.» The proprietor is really into cheesy movies, and there’s usually one playing behind the bar. They only do beer(and beer-ish things) so if you need anything stronger you’ll have to start elsewhere.
