Didn’t know anything about the place other than it was a diner next door to the tire place I just dropped my car off at and that I was hungry. It was a kind of odd time(2:45pm) and I didn’t expect anything fancy. All I wanted was a grilled cheese and salad — figured that would be easy enough. Sadly, the salad was not so fresh and not cold at all. I also got a grilled cheese with bacon on wheat. There was a lot of bacon, but overall was kind of blah. Cheese was generic radioactive orange American and kind of tasted like elementary school. Likely will not go back.

The fried pickles were awesome along with the fried honey biscuit., and the waitress was nice but the chicken wings were undercooked… bloody. They also had a few feathers sticking off of them. Onion rings were undercooked also and tasteless. Must have been a newbie cook. I was really looking forward to trying this place, but left worried I might get sick after eating part of those undercooked wings.

Edible. If you want a greasey burger and dinerish food — there are better options.

What do you get when you have Deep Fried Pickle Chips, Beer and a Cheeseburger the size of a football? You either have a fatal Grabber in the making or lunch at Genny’s Diner. I still have no idea why I ordered a Cheeseburger the Size of Montana, and I’m still clueless on how I ate most of it. Genny’s Diner looks like a broken down Saloon from the Speakeasy days. We dined outside, so I can’t really describe the interior other than the fact that the bathroom was a mess. There are better restrooms in Mexican Prisons. But other than the disgusting Out House, I really enjoyed my lunch at Genny’s Diner. We started out with an order of Deep Fried, Pickle Chips. The appetizer quite generous and is served with a tartar sauce. The Burger is Gargantuan. It consisted of 4 large patties served on a Kaiser roll. It was so big that I had to use a knife and fork to eat it. The Burger was quite tasty. It was served with Mayo, Lettuce and tons of pickles. Our server was wonderful. She was friendly and helpful. The best part of the meal may have been the people watching. This particular area of Louisville is a people watchers dream. There were couples arguing on the street, two guys fixing a car in the parking lot and lots of beautiful girls walking by to keep me entertained. It was better than anything on Television. The bottom line on Genny’s Diner is this: If you are looking for a place to get your Grub on, Genny’s is the place for you. The service is wonderful, the food is hot, generously portioned and delicious. My only advice is to avoid the Bathroom until you are done eating. It may ruin your appetite.

What an odd place. Genny’s is set up like a roadhouse, with a dark interior, large parking lot out front, and vintage signage. They advertise«frickled pickles», which is a fancy name for fried pickle chips and really, the main reason why we stopped in the first place. We opted to sit out at one of the three tiny outdoor tables, which gave us quite a bit of entertainment during lunch. While we sampled our pickle chips(huge portion by the way, and pretty good, I think we have had better at other places though), we watched this scenario play out by three guys, one of whom was perhaps the owner of Genny’s? This was like some crazy scene out of Goodfellas, you had Ray Liotta and Paul Sorvino completely immersed in going through some giant sedan… repairing it, cleaning it, stashing money in the wheel wells? Who knows. But they obviously cared little about who was there and watching them. Our waitress was a doll, and completely awesome. And even when I asked for the fish sandwich to be baked, rather than fried, and received two baked fillets in a pan instead, I was cool with it. Mostly because I liked her, but also because the fish was damned good anyway and I had the aforementioned free outdoor entertainment to sort of distract me. The meal did come with mashed potatoes(dry, needed seasoning and sort of powdered tasting) as well as cabbage, which was cooked in bacon and some kind of sweet syrup.(this was pretty tasty considering it gave me violent flashbacks of dinner at my grandmothers house — which is not a good thing, trust me). Andy ordered some ridiculous burger that came with three patties and was just a monstrosity of horrific proportions. I snagged a small piece and the meat was fantastic, but just way too much burger all around. I think it was called the Sweet Daddy or something like that. I don’t know if we would come back(pickles at Mark’s Feed Store are way better), but it was an interesting place nonetheless.

Although I was curious about Genny’s for a long time, I couldn’t make the trip until Friday, June 8, 2007. For some reason, I ignored the world’s hugest burgers and ordered the fried chicken accompanied with steak fries. I couldn’t imagine a more bland take on fried chicken. The house salad was a very mediocre iceberg lettuce with tomato wedges. The frickled pickle chips are tasty, and I’d most certainly eat them again, but who needs to make room for a new fried food in their daily diet?
