I try not to give bad reviews but I’m just not a fan of this place anymore I have had there cat fish fillet which is not very good at all and they give you hot sauce. So if your like me ask for tarter sauce and bring your own lemon. I have asked for a Chicago hot dog and it’s nothing close to a Chicago hot dog, how can you have Chicago in your name and not have a true Chicago hot dog. There gyros is pretty good but I have had better.

Lets start with the basics, great frozen lemonades, very good flavors, colors and presentation. great Philly style sandwiches. Now this is not the kind of place you really want to hang out in and some people may feel unsafe in the area and in regard to who is coming and going. But the staff is friendly and talkative but a little slow. This reminds me of so many gritty little places you find in very large cities, local places with great food and not much else that cater to the neighborhood. The restrooms were clean but sparse, the tables simple, old and worn as was the building but it still got a good health score and an A. The guy who took our order(I think Pakistan or some other area from that part of the world) spoke good English and was very friendly. But also speaking in his native tongue on a boom cell phone headset that was never off nor was he ever off the phone. I found it amusing only because it was a typical look of big city first generation entrepreneurs trying to make deals and get ahead I admire the effort and energy. So if you like finding whole in the wall places with tasty food this might be worth a try. Edgy neighborhood, a parade of characters from pastors, drug dealers, gang bangers poor young couples, and guys in ties slumming from downtown on their lunch breaks this kind of place might be your cup of tea. I’m not sure I would come here at night and if I did I would call ahead but if you like a place with an edge and charisma check it out.

So, it seems the wind is pretty strong from Chicago, because apparently the greasy breeze has blown in a few of these joints. Four locations so far, sticking more to the West or South end. And the menu is either deep fried or on a flat grill. That’s not necessarily a bad thing but just keep that in mind because if you’re expecting any low-carb options, you won’t find them. The location I happened to be passing by is on Cane Run Rd., and I thought fried fish on a Friday would be appropriate so I stopped in. A small line had formed for the carry-out, the service was quick though and I stepped to the counter and placed my order, and then stepped aside while I waited. As I waited, a call-in order stopped in to pick up their food. She handed the cashier her money and her food was brought to her immediately. However, apparently there was an issue with lemon pepper. It seems that lemon pepper is the spice of choice on all CS&L’s fried food. And lots of it. And this customer didn’t want any of it and supposedly had requested none be on her order. Of course, a short argument ensued and the merits of lemon pepper in all it’s glorious goodness were expounded upon but in the end, the customer is always right. The manager acquiesced and the order was re-done. My number was called immediately after this little drama. I paid and headed home, fried food in hand. With stuff like this, I’m not sure what I expect. It’s deep-fried food. There’s not many ways to go. The food was OK. Lemon-peppery large portions of fried food. Not much more to be said, but it’s doubtful I’ll go back. It’s simply not that special and the overall experience lands somewhere between meh and eh.
