Baxter’s 942 Bar & Grill

Love this place. Every Wednesday I’m here for 1 $ wells. This Wednesday a security guard refused to let me finish a game of golden tee when I was «on fire». Anyways my man Bruno (security guard) gave me some quarters and embodied what Baxter’s stands for. #GiveTheManARaise

I really like Baxter’s. It’s a fun bar that serves delicious food. I would say that it’s more of a college bar than a bar for those in their late-​twenties and thirties. It definitely turns into a party bar at night. The beer and cocktail menu isn’t the best (directed at college kids with less established tastes). For that reason, I don’t find myself here too often, but when I do, I always have a great time.
I’ve been here for several «big event» type days (i.e. St. Patty’s Day, March Madness, Halloween), as well as regular nights out. Baxter’s is always packed. Luckily, the place is huge, with three distinct areas and an enormous back patio. Even with the size, it can get crowded, which is proof that this place is a good time. If my friends or husband decide to have a night out, this is one of the first places I think of because it’s so fun. The music is always good. The employees are awesome. I also enjoy coming to Baxter’s during their slower times, where it becomes a chill spot to drink and eat.
Speaking of eating… the food here is amazing! I didn’t expect a bar to produce such good food, but they do. Definitely superior to your normal bar food. The brisket tacos are inventive and delicious. Baxter’s bbq sauces are really good. The mac and cheese is the bomb. I find most places’ mac and cheese to be bland, so I’m super picky about mac and cheese. With that said, Baxter’s is one of the best I’ve had.
For a «night out» bar: 5 stars.
Food: 4 stars compared to restaurants that focus solely on dining, but 5 stars compared to other bars.
Baxter’s gets an overall 5 stars from me. Baxter’s is an all-​around good time. You won’t be disappointed if you come here.

We go here ever Wednesday night. The waiters here are the best. And the chief is great he always comes out to see if everything is ok.

My brothers band Gas Money plays at Baxters sometimes and I love going there. We usually call and reserve a table and get there early so we can get something to eat. The food there is amazing! The nachos seem to get better every time we order them. I love the pepper jack mac and cheese as well. The employees there are awesome.

Service was great! Food was on point… my friends and I were there for lunch and even though it was not crowded there were still a few folks in there having a drink. The place is very cool and from what the bartender/​cook (yes, the cook came out of the kitchen and talked to us), the place is very lively at night with live music and DJ. The cook was from Chicago as well so we were chit chatting for a while about it, very cool guy…
I really enjoyed my pulled pork sandwich which I had to add the different sauces at the table (the mustard one had a kick at the end). My friends ordered the ribs and the pulled chicken sandwich and they both were content with their food. The jalapeño cheddar cornbread was great. The coleslaw was a little different than what we are used to in Chicago but it wasn’t bad.
The bar is located on a strip from which I understand is all bars/​clubs at night so hopefully in another visit to Louisville I will get to party here at night!

Baxter’s was much better than expected for your average bar. Their menu isn’t extensive, but they have enough for most taste buds. Don’t go if you’re looking for healthy options, though.
We went on a Friday night and it was pretty empty, but at night time it really gets pretty packed for the bar. They also have some live music most nights, which is a major plus. It’s a huge place, so you can really get a lot of space whether it’s at the front or side bar or outside.
They have an average sized beer menu, but I don’t think they’re really going for the trendy beers, anyways. The waitress was nice as well– always a plus!
I would go back if I was looking for a casual meal.

Incredible service, very attentive staff and the food was awesome! We meet the chef, Arrvonis. He took great pride in his creations. Among the highlights were the brisket tacos, jalapeño mac and cheese, and the cornbread. There are enough tv’s to call it a sports bar, but the flavorful cuisine makes it a not-​to-​be-​missed stop on Bardstown Road.
You’ve gotta get here.

Great atmosphere, welcoming staff, good food and live music! This place has various rooms to hang out depending on your mood. There’s is basketball game where you can play hoops or pool… or wanting something more chilled– another room where you may want to be a little more comfortable hangin out on leather couches. There is an outside area with bar as well. Big screens in front bar to keep up with you sport. It appears small when coming in the front door but has a lot of room and I wasn’t over crowded which can be a buzz kill. Various age groups as well. If I head down to Louisville again, I’d totally stop back in and would recommend this spot.

The brisket is amazing here and won’t disappoint. Fish tacos and the pasta are a must try also. Great selection of beer and great staff. This is definitely a place to come back on a regular basis.

I’m a Texan native and I have to admit this place has some of best BBQ around. I’ve tried almost the entire menu and I can strongly admit it all tastes terrific. You cannot go wrong with anything off the menu. The chef is passionate about the food he sends out if the kitchen.

FYI: This review is strictly for the bar scene as I’ve never eaten here.
I was here Saturday night with a friend and it was the second bar we went to, so it was pretty late in the night once we got here. There was a cover charge of $ 5 (sometimes it’s only $ 3– just depends on the guys working the door) which isn’t awful in my opinion. It was pretty packed when we first walked in, but the place almost reminds me of a shotgun house. It looked much smaller on the outside but it just kept going.
***IF YOU ARE TRYING TO USE A FAKE ID: do not bother with it here. As far as I’ve seen, this place is the strictest about fakes (as they probably should be). They don’t mess around and just because you’re a girl, good looking, etc. does not mean you will be cut any slack.
They have multiple bars where you can get your drinks which is nice if one is too crowded or what have you. If you use your card to pay, there is a $ 10 minimum so don’t plan on only having one drink. Their beer is relatively cheap as far as I noticed, which is nice and explains why a lot of college-​aged people hang out here. I had a whiskey sour to start which was good, however pretty sour compared to what I’ve had in the past. Obviously this all depends on the bartender that evening.
The music they were playing when we walked in was upbeat, popular songs so it was great for dancing although we went straight out to the patio so we didn’t dance. By the time we were leaving, the music had turned to throwbacks from my middle school days and we decided to dance before leaving which was probably the most fun we had while we were there.
I’m only giving 3 stars because after all, this is just another bar. Nothing stood out to me or was spectacular about the bar scene.

Great barbecue and a great vibe! Definitely will come back!
I was in town for a conference, and one night we wanted to explore a bit away from downtown, so we headed over the the Highlands and made our way here. Our waitress was extremely friendly and helpful, and the food was so delicious! The beer selection was pretty good, and it was nice seeing good Ohio beers (and drinking them.) Their barbecue sauce selections were on point and paired perfectly with all our food! My roasted red pepperjack veggie pasta (a little wordy) was so amazing, as was my friends’ barbecue. After dinner, we stuck around to listen to the live band and hang out, and it was difficult to make ourselves leave and try somewhere else during our short stay in Louisville. We were just having too much fun!

Overall a decent place. Nice bar, clean, open floor plan. My husband and I stopped by here while on our visit through town and planned on having dinner here but didn’t. The bartender was wearing a shirt with holes in it and a cartoon character on it and leggings, I didn’t feel like she took her job seriously. She over poured my drink to the point where I felt like I was sipping on rubbing alcohol through a straw. I will come back on another visit but this bartender just sucks. (Although we didn’t order food, some others at the bar dos and it looked great!)

I should probably visit this place a few more times before writing a review, but I feel pretty confident that my opinion has been solidified. I would give it a 3.5 star review if that were an option. But it isn’t. So I rounded up.
The thing this place has going for it is the same thing that most other places in this area of the city has going for it — good atmosphere. Especially when it is warm out and they have the windows open.
They also have Old Style beer. Haven’t had one of those in a long time. And as a fan of the Chicago Cubs, I’m obligated.
I bought some ribs and got them with a Carolina style sauce (mustardy sauce). They were OK. I rate them about average. For ribs, I’d rather go to Doc Crow’s or Smoketown USA.
The cornbread was fantastic. My wife gobbled it up.
Mac n’ cheese was very cheesy. Which is what you want.
This place is surprisingly pretty big, too. I was surprised just how much seating they had.
Baxter’s 942 is worth visiting. It’s also worth exploring the food menu. And it seems to be reasonably priced across the board.

Excellent food. Went with a group and enjoyed several appetizers: ribs and nachos and the brisket tacos for dinner. Zesty, excellent flavor. Good beer selection. I really enjoyed the radler, don’t find it many places. Will definitely return. Casual dining in the highlands.

Great bar food, simple menu done right. BBQ is killer and the waffle cut sweet potato fries are the best.

We came here after a work function that was really rather boring and turned our night around at Baxter’s. It was a great time. One of the people with us had too much to drink, passed out in their toilet and had to be carried out to an Über taxi and the staff was helpful carrying her and arranging the cab. It would have been nice if their stalls had been easier to get into when the lady unfortunately crashed out but one doesn’t plan for grown adults to lose composure in public on the regular.
The drinks were great too, the staff was prompt and helpful and the only real complain I had about my evening would be that having put my employees on my tab they kept hugging me. It will curb my largesse in the future. I value my team, I don’t need a bear hug because I redistributed the wealth.
They also had a great band and if I wasn’t so drunk that night I’d remember who they were to mention them by name as well. It was really unfortunate when my coworkers sang because that was awful and I hope that no one had a bad time because of that crooning. I’m glad they produce better than they sing.

Chef Chicago is amazing. The food is amazing, the servers are great, and bartenders will take care of you. This place is great to bring people out of town and enjoy the town.

I’ve only been her once it’s a very small resturant it’s kind of like a shot gun house resturant. The food was over priced but goo.
