Don’t get the shrimp tostada! Gross! Atmosphere is beautiful, food was fair at least. They shouldn’t serve Mexican food, or call it Mexican because whatever they think they are serving as Mexican isn’t even close to it. It’s at best food that could pass as looking like a possible Mexican dish. The server was sweet, the bar makes delicious drinks. food is nasty.

Driving through Los banos and needed a pick me up coffee after a long weekend of camping and even longer drive back toward home. Stumbled upon this place which looked awesome from the outside but two things. 1– smelled of smoke 2– manager told us we couldn’t bring our just purchased coffee into the restaurant. Seriously? You’re gonna turn away a $ 40 meal over a coffee? Walked out and will never go again. Horrible business model.

The lunch buffet is amazing and delicious, especially if you’re in a hurry for lunch. Hands down, the best authentic food in the valley! My friends and I always make a trip to España’s and are never let down! Great service all around as well!

Espanas all you can eat weekday Lunch Buffet is by far the best place to dine during the week! From the flour tortillas, charro beans, Spanish rice, cheese enchiladas, delicious angus beef steak fajitas, boneless, skinless seasoned chicken thigh fajitas with all the fixings, i.e.: guacamole and breaded fish fajitas & New England clam chowder on Fridays plus a FULLORGANIC Fruit & Salad Bar that is amazing! We’re talking Romaine, Frisée, spinach, arugula lettuces, shredded red cabbage, broccoli florets, sliced mushrooms, kidney & garbanzo beans, beets, diced hard boiled eggs, sliced red onion, sliced red, green & yellow bell peppers, shredded carrot, diced cucumber, peas, corn kernels, grated cheese, edamame, pasta salad, mandarin orange slices, sliced peaches, shelled sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries, crackers & croutons… the price? $ 12.99! Who can beat that??? Love love love Espanas and their margaritas and IPA’s at happy hour.

If i could do no stars I would. I just called them to get food for my company and who ever it was said basicly they have no time for us… For pick up or delivery or pick up. They didn’t even tell me when they would be available to bring food or for me to go get it I in know its mothers day but still I didn’t even get a time were they would be available. I would have waited… The girl just said we are to busy. Wich means to me that we made money already today so I don’t matter. I don’t ever call this place but when I finally do I get shot down.

We came here with 1 hour left till it closed and one of us ordered the salad bar and they were kind enough to let us know that they will close it once we take all the food we want. The food was fine here. Fresh but nothing special. I can’t critique mexican food too well. Also, the servers here were nice and friendly.

Oh wow. Artichoke enchiladas with red pepper sauce are off the chain. Did a full combo of that plus a chile relleno with smoked Gouda. It’s one of those meals you didn’t know you dreamed of until you’re eating it. Service was awesome too. Friendly and attentive. Next time passing through and probably every time will eat here.

Bars okay! Service is horribly slow in the bar area but they are open late which is a plus! Food is like taco bell on a pretty plate! Stop for a drink if you got lots of time thats about it… i also heard they had infestation of cocaroachs, just things i heard!

I sort of feel guilty rating this place low having only gone there once and hearing everyone rave about the place but I was really not impressed. We(4 adults and 1 child) went around three in the afternoon for lunch. It took over an hour and a half to get our food, our drinks were empty and only filled when we requested more, and some of our food came cold. The chips were nothing special either. They tasted like store bought we could have had at home for a fourth of the price. Three of us ordered what a fellow diner suggested as «the best item on the menu» a California Enchilada(I think that’s what it was called). My husband ordered a beef chimichanga. My dish was cold in the middle, slopped together, and had a bland mess type of taste. There were really no distinguishing flavors except the sour cream on top. Just a messy, slop pile. Again, I feel like I caught them at a bad time. It was just not very good. The rice was pretty good. It was the only thing I ended up finishing. My husband said his chimichanga was undercooked and he pulled out multiple lumps of straight fat chunks. He did eat my refried beans as well as his. So those were fine too. My son’s cheese quesadilla was the best out of all of us. We all ended up sharing that. The cheese was yummy and it was nice and crispy. So overall I decided on a two star rating. The rice wasn’t the best I had but still good. The quesadilla was yummy but hard to screw up. Everything else was disappointing. I will definitely update my rating if we have it again and it tastes better although I’m not sure we will be able to justify the price for food we didn’t like. Sorry Espana’s, you just didn’t live up to the hype.

Guys let me tell you something if you want really scrumptious, amazing tasting Mexican food you need to come to Espana’s in Los Banos but if you’d rather settle I guess hit up Arsenios or Robertitos. Seriously this place is worth the drive from Fresno or anywhere in the Central Valley it’s that good! This is the third I’ve been here after hearing the praises from my mom and I have to say every time has been a home run. My mom loves to get the enchiladas which are very delicious and stuffed with meat but I go for the crème de le crème, the Chimichanga! This deep fried awesomeness isn’t like any other Chimi I’ve had and I don’t know how they do it but the tortilla is so flaky and crunchy I die and go to heaven with each bite. The rojo sauce they top it with is so mouth watering and of course the melty cheese is the icing on the cake. Their rice and beans are also the best I’ve ever had from any Mexican restaurant I’ve been to. Espana’s kills it on every level with the taste of their food, to the generous portions and great décor you can’t lose! Now when I first went here I did recoil from sticker shock as their prices are higher than normal but the quality of food and service is definitely worth every penny. When you go look out for Manager Don he’s fantastic and super friendly, he’ll make your visit one to remember and having you want to go back. Don’t listen to the naysayers on here they don’t know what they’re talking about please visit Espana’s for the best Mexican food in the area, you won’t regret it!

On the way back from San Diego to San Jose I said to myself: no more fast-food, need a real nice place to stop and refuel. And there was this interesting Los Banos village(the Baths in Spanish), a pillar for the agriculture in the area for many years. Espana’s Southwest Bar and Grill was hidden behind the lush greenery of exotic palms and other trees. Very ‘Spanish colonial’ style hacienda, we enjoyed reading the history of both the restaurant(that used to be an Inn and a boarding house) as well as the agriculture improvements in the valley… while waiting for our delicious quesadillas and calamari tacos. Very generous in their chips and aromatic tomato based salsa(not as much pico de gallo as you would think) and also in the plate portions. Do not forget to check in on Unilocal so you can get another big portion of guacamole, tomato salsa and chips! Nicely decorated salad bar with tons of varieties to crate your own salads. Also, the staff is super nice, very friendly and cheerful, you feel so welcomed you would like to stay there longer!

Not the most authentic place, but it serves good food with big portions. Stopped in after my first visit over 20 years ago, thanks to a dealsaver. Skinny margaritas were amazing, even manly man husband preferred them since they’re made with fresh squeezed lime juice and stomach turning triple sec. The albondigas is seasoned so well and cooked to perfect tenderness. Even thought the meatballs were frozen, the soup was perfectly seasoned. The chips were nice and thin, the salsa Americanized and not too spicy but was pleasing to all of us including the kids. My son enjoyed the tostada, my toddler the nuggets although I had to explain why they weren’t Dinos. Not a big deal but that’s something you should tell a kid before getting them excited about Dino shaped nuggets. My husband enjoyed the combo and said the chile relleno was well seasoned and had a bit too much cheese-which I personally don’t think is a bad thing! I really enjoyed my steak and shrimp fajitas, and was happy with the large, well cooked prawns that had a smoky grill flavor. The bells and onions were yummy and there was a lot of tender steak, steak was a bit under seasoned. I normally only like the super sizzling smoky plates of fajitas, but these were very good and did not pose a burn threat to my little one. We enjoyed the service, atmosphere, food and timing. I would definitely comeback.
