We just ate as the items came. The fried olives and chickpeas were alright. If you are a fan of fried pickles, these will tickle your fancy. The salty, briney taste instantly works nicely with the fried exterior. The fried chickpeas were nice too — soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside. It was good first taste of what The Parish had to offer. Oddly, I don’t have a picture of it. Trust me when I say that it is a great way to start! I normally don’t eat beets. In fact, I don’t eat beets. When someone ordered the beets, I was honestly not excited. I couldn’t be more wrong and more judging of this dish. Topped with mache herbs abd horseradish yogurt, the dish came together so well. The beets were quite fresh and meety and the sauce brought everything together so well. Beets were on my radar again. The fish and chips was tasty — nothing too out of the ordinary. The batter on the fish was quite impressive. It had a nice light crunch. Chips consisted of a huge potato wedge — great dipped in the sauce. The poutine fried oysters were an interesting combination. Fried oysters topped a bed of fried and was topped with gravy. The oyster taste was quite pristine. The batter honestly couldn’t have been better. Perfectly seasoned and with a nice crunch, the soft texture of the oyster meat and crunch from batter was a nice textural contrast. This was a home run. The pork shoulder poutine was nice too. Using the same gravy and fries as the fried oyster poutine, this one was topped with slow roasted pork shoulder. The flavors worked nicely and the tofu cheese curds could have fooled me. The pork was tender — you could tell it was cooked for a long time. Green beans, just like beats are not a go to item for me. Prepared right though, they can be quite tasty. Theirs was prepared with peaches and cheese. Though an interesting combination, the peaches were sweet and worked with the cheese. If not for the cheese though, this dish would have been boring. Bone marrow is some of my favorite things in life. Their bone marrow was roasted and baked nicely. The richness of the fat and crostini schmeer was a bite full of flavor. The celery salad helped cut down the rich fat. This wasn’t a must order dish — not everyone loves this stuff. The bone marrow at The Parish was mediocre compared to other places. Still, its bone marrow. Mediocre bone marrow is still bone marrow. The clams were maybe one of my favorite dishes here. A lover of clams and shellfish, this dish was a winner. The broth in itself was addicting and tasty. The sweetness of the sherry worked nicely in the broth. Leeks and saffron topped the dish to finish it off nicely. Their thick crusted toast was perfect with this dish. Dipped in that savory broth, I kept finding myself going back to this dish. The lentils daal was a first for me. The Indian dish didn’t look pretty, but it was tasty. With hints of curry and turmeric, the dish was explicitly Indian. The lentils were cooked perfectly and had a nice bite to it. The chutney toast was nice, but the Asian in me wanted a side of rice with this. I wouldn’t necessarily order this dish again, but it was a nice and interesting dish to have tried. Only at a foodie get together like this would I ever have tried daal. The buttermilk fried chicken was probably my favorite item of the night. The batter was quite crispy — very crispy actually. This kind of crispy was done so cleanly and pure. I didn’t get a feeling of greasiness or an oily mouth eating this chicken. The meat was juicy and everyone wasn’t too salty. It was difficult to find a fault for this dish. The cherry tomatoes and peaches were a nice touch to the chicken. Too bad I had to share with the rest of the table. I would have been find with my own plate of fried chicken. The burger was another one of my favorites. Cooked a perfect rare to a medium rare, the meat was juicy and flavorful. With picked carrots and arugula, the burger seems like a standard burger. The best part about this burger is that it has Epoisses. Epoisses is a pungent cows milk cheese and actually makes this burger what it is. The soft cheese melted into the burger and every bite had an essence of Epoisses. $ 17 for a burger is a bit high, but I guess the quality ingredients make up for it. The pork head pot pie was warm and hearty. Not something traditional, the pork head actually has some good stuff. The meat was tender and just dissolved in your mouth. The gravy was good inside. My favorite would have to have been the dough. Sitting there like a hockey puck, the dough held everything inside. Dense on the inside, I would have liked the dough to be more flaky on the outside. The picked vegetable salad helped balance out the rich gravy and gave everything a nice crunch. Sticky toffee pudding is always a winner. Theirs had a lava cake with a pool of sticky toffee on the bottom. The cake was nice and the fruit was nice, but the toffee was so addicting.

Parish what happened to you? Why are you closed? My friends and I truly enjoyed your food and your hipster vibe. Bummer. Hands down some of the best in-house same day handmade pasta! We tried just about every pasta Parish had to offer. All that was left on our plates was a dabble of sauce here and there. Bone Marrow was delicious too. Chicken liver toast with a hint of bacon blew me away following the marrow of heavenly fat we had just consumed! Pass on the fried olives and chickpeas, way too much nutmeg or cinnamon going on. I hope your doors open again soon so I can return!

The peculiar shape of The Parish’s building was the draw for me. I felt like I was sitting on the set of Harry Potter, somewhere in Diagon Alley or Hogsmeade. I was a bit disappointed not to see butter beer on the menu. All geeking out aside, I really enjoyed myself on my date night here with my beau. The food was superb, the cocktails exquisite, and the service spot-on. We ordered the items that our server had recommended to us, including: Soft-shell crab — crunchy flavorful little morsels Octopus — the texture and flavor pairs well with the grilled peach it came with Green beans — this was a standard dish; nothing stood out to me about it. Pork rillette — like a warm pork pâté. rich and satisfying. Rini shrimp pasta — buttery goodness. Portions are bit smaller and prices are a tad higher than average. The most memorable thing about the Parish was their cocktails. Layered with so many flavors and complexities, the mixologists really know what they’re doing. Tip: It gets pretty packed here so it’s better to have a reservation.

If actual church services were held at THIS Parish… I would be at church every gawdamn day. COKE N BACONBREAKFAST breakfast of champions. BACONDATESCONE A tad bit dense but flavorfully created with dates and bacon. BACONCHEDDARDANISH Warm, flaky Danish filled with what tasted like a thick baconlike piece of ham and melty cheddar. Not what I expected but certainly pretty damn good. FRIEDCHICKENBUTTERMILKBISCUIT Warm, fluffy biscuit with crispy, hot and perfectly spiced and fried chicken and some greens for color. Excellent! Bacon pastries and fried chicken for breakfast? Hallelujah! Praise the Lard.

Boyfriend brought me here for date night and I l o v e d it! This place is so cute and so pretty that it just brings a smile to my face. I think I fell in love with it before the glasses touched the table. We were seated upstairs and the view outside wasn’t anything special, but the tree with tiny white lights made it feel extra romantic. I guess the décor just hit a spot within me! Enough about that, let’s get to the food~ We ordered the oyster poutine, grilled corn and the rotisserie chicken– it was all very delicious. The sauce in the poutine was really yummy and the oysters were lightly battered and melted away in my mouth~ The grilled corn was really tasty and seasoned well, but generously slathered in butter. The food was very rich overall, I think I gained like a bazillion calories! Service was great and they constantly cleared off table and brought us fresh plates. I must come back for the other dishes another time. Just make sure you make reservations! Perfect for date night and worth putting on falsies for! :D

This place has been on my list for the past year and I’m glad I finally got a chance to try it. Ambiance — The place is dark and woody like a nice English pub and transports you to England. The décor is rustic with plush club chairs and a large bar in the very middle that everyone seems to congregate to. Loved the vibe of the place. Food — Porchetta — a huge huge piece of pork it was probably the largest serving of porchetta I’ve never had and a great deal for the price. Although fatty in certain parts, overall I found it to be nicely seasoned with a great piece of crispy chicaharron skin that surrounded it. The bed of rice it sat on was a nice touch that helped break down some of the fattiness. This dish would have benefited from more sauce. Oyster Poutine — a great great poutine, you could really taste the smokiness from the dish. Although I didn’t find the oysters to be very complimentary to the dish, as a stand alone they were quite strong(nicely battered and light). The true star of this dish was the sauce that drowned the fries. Smoky yet spicy and light it was truly enjoyable. Chicken Liver Toast — Created with a masterful hand, this is one of the best preparations of chicken liver I’ve ever had. The dish was very mellow which is not how I would generally describe chicken liver. Yet somehow he was able to take out the gaminess of the dish and create a very light pâté. Bucatini — A very strong pasta dish, the noodles were cooked al dente and I loved the salty combination with the pork belly and the earthiness of the mushrooms. However this dish like many that night would have benefited from a sauce. Drinks — Loved the drinks here. I usually stick with an old fashioned and I have to say although I tried a few different variations on it that night, the best for me is still the old fashioned old fashion. Service — Now this is where the 3 stars comes into place. The service here really does need to pick up. The wait between our foods was long(about 30 minutes from appetizer to entrée) and often times we were passed up and ignored. When we wanted to add onto our order we were unable to get anybody’s attention until the manager(whom my friend actually knew) stopped to take our order for us. I cant’ help but wonder, considering that we knew the manager, if the service would have been even worse than what we had if we didn’t know him.

If you want to get a full experience of what Downtown LA eateries are like, Parish is the perfect place to go. Downstairs serves a a coffee shop style quick dining, but once you are upstairs, it is completely a whole new world. I joined several of my friends for a birthday party and I really loved the atmosphere, food, and service. We ordered so many dishes off the menu and I enjoyed every single one of them. I couldn’t recall what we ordered, but $ 700 bill proved that we pretty tried them all! Can’t wait to come back again, perhaps for Breakfast.

In my second visit, I ordered the same items, which were all amazing minus the oyster poutine. However, I did get to try the biscuits and the mussels this time around. Biscuits were freshly baked with honey, so it was very soft with a slightly sweet taste to it. As delicious as it was, I probably would not order this again because it cost about $ 7-$ 8 for an order of these. I’ll just settle for Church’s biscuits, which are good and wayyyyy cheaper. The mussels were awesome. I really liked the tangy flavor with the creamy texture of the sauce. The mussels were very tender and fresh.

I was a little nervous walking to the restaurant, a few blocks away from where I parked. It’s not the cleanest nor friendliest neighborhood, but I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived. The dimly lit 2 story restaurant is very cozy and intimate. I’d say try to get a seat upstairs, and if it’s a warm day/evening, the patio. The menu items are interesting and very foodie-friendly. I came with 3 others and we shared: Burger — it was rare. The waiter did not ask us how we wanted it cooked, so I’m guessing that’s just how they cook it. I was really turned off by the texture, but since it was $ 14, I ate it. Maybe insist that it be cooked at least medium, unless you like eating ground beef out of the tube. Mussels — pretty good. The broth was yellow, I think from the saffron cream. The flavor reminded me of dijon mustard. Slightly tangy and surprisingly yummy. Wings — the maple dijon glaze was very good and meat was tender. Fried Oyster Poutine — every time I order poutine at restaurants, it’s completely different than the last. I guess this is their take on it, sans cheese curds. The fried oysters were good, but there is too much breading. The dish is also very meager for the price. Brussel Sprouts — wasn’t too impressed. My bf said he liked the ones I made at home better, which doesn’t say much about my cooking, so… yeah. The drinks were excellent — if you like bourbon and tequila, I highly recommend the Black Bee and Stuffed Animal Fizz. Service wasn’t bad, but we didn’t get the welcoming vibe that you’d expect from a nicer restaurant like this. All in all a decent experience, but if you’re ready to drop $ 50~60 per head, I’d say there are better restaurants out there that offer a similar food concept. Tip: Parking sucks around this area, but there are $ 5 lots close to the restaurant. I would rather pay the $ 5 than circling around for street parking and also risking getting a ticket! Those street parking signs are so vague sometimes.

Oh, now here’s a fun after work place for downtown folks! It’s new, and what the cool kids call«dope.» The Parish serves up the modern gastropub in a unique location, and bolsters dark wood and that old american feel. You know, the classy hipster, I Iove the 1880s kind. If you’re not coming here after 5 and after work, you’ll find the entrance and place empty. Don’t be fooled, they put everyone upstairs. That part will surely be bustling at all hours with people enjoying cocktails and some wonderful eats. The Parish is classy, and the new place to be. They have excellent and incredibly informed staff. The details on the food preparation and drink mix that these folks know is astounding. Even the chef talked to us as we walked out for the night. I simply recommend trying the ½ chicken if you’re quite hungry(taste was meh), or the hangar steak which is juicy as ever. You’ll be enjoying whatever they have, but sometimes you’ll be asking where the rest of your dessert is. I enjoyed the bread pudding with cinnamon gelato but wanted more. The slice was too thin. Okay, it was really good. I mean when was the last time you had some cinnamon gelato, or bread pudding that just melted in your mouth? Give it a go. Try this place out and come here after rush hour on weekdays; after 7:00 p.m. If you’re here on weekends for brunch, ask about their famed chicken. People go nuts for it.

Came here for dinner with one of my friends last night and I really enjoyed it. The set up of the restaurant is really cute and rustic — almost reminded me of Saddle Peak Lodge a bit. They play some great(but now loud) music which sets a fantastic vibe. Doesn’t feel too hipster at all. Menu is simple but has some great options. We had the following Fried Oyster Poutine — unlike most poutine’s there is no cheese curds in it because of the shellfish. However, they do have some kind of bacon gravy they put over the fries which are thick and fresh cut and fried. The sauce is amazing! The fried oysters melt in your mouth — they were perfect! Very savory. Wings — They give you the whole large wing, not like the little drummette and other piece which is different but great. They have a nice char on them and taste like they were barbequed. The sauce is sticky but not really peppery as I expected. Tasty but I think our waitress may have hyped it up a bit much. Hangar Steak — it came out pretty medium rare but I like it that way. Great quality, super tender now chewy at all but still has some char/caremlization on the outside. The potatoes were tasty with some crispyness. I would have liked to taste more of the bone marrow in them. Overall though really great! My friend ordered the rotisserie chicken and she loved it. She said it was better than the wins we had. It came with hunks of a crusty bread that tasted like they were dressed in some kind of balsamic vinegar. Really tasty! Management was great and checked up on us a few times which is always nice.

Love it(4.5 stars)! The food, service, and atmosphere was great! My only concern is that I still paid $ 7 for a glass of wine during«happy hour.» That seems a little overpriced for a discounted drink. Anyway, the food was amazing. My friend and I both decided to go with the $ 35 dineLA menu, which consisted of 3 courses. The menu items are designed to be shared. For the first course, we went with the brussels sprouts and the kale pomegranate salad. The brussels sprouts were great! They were smokey, and they had some crunchy stuff in there, along with some bits of pork. Brussels sprouts and pork work really nicely together. The kale pomegranate salad was delicious and refreshing. There was as nice balance of fresh kale, pomegranate seeds, and some friend root vegetable. For our second course, I chose the duck confit cassoulet with beans and sausage. My friend chose the grilled crab with farro and mushrooms. I was incredibly pleased with my duck. It was perfectly cooked. It had that nice fattiness to it. It wasn’t gamey. It paired extremely well with the beans and sausage. It was a nice, comfort-style dish. My friend’s crab dish was awesome, too! It was and half of a crab that came out in the shell. Because it was grilled, it was pretty easy to crack open. The meat inside was soft and perfectly cooked. It came with a lemon slice, which added some nice acidity, and the mushroom/farro side added a great earthiness to the dish. For dessert, I ordered the mint chocolate chip ice cream cookie sandwich. The cookie was a little hard, and it wasn’t as sweet as I was expecting. Overall, once I added the fudge, it was pretty good. My friend ordered the olive oil cake, which was a little more savory. It had an interesting consistency, like somewhere between a muffin and a cake and a loaf of bread. The rosemary added a nice herby taste to it, and the olive oil mousse was nice, as well. It was slightly overcooked along the corners, but overall, pretty good. Service was great. Our waitress checked in with us at all the right times. She also gave us great suggestions and described the menu items extremely well. Our water glasses stayed full. Any questions we had were promptly answered. The hostesses greeted us when we entered and thanked us when we left. The atmosphere is pretty cool. There isn’t much signage, and it’s located on a weird corner(at Spring and Main), so it’s really easy to drive right past The Parish. The restaurant has a very nice upstairs dining area, with candles and a very nice vibe. There are windows all around, but unfortunately, you’re just looking at a desolate part of downtown LA. Parking is surprisingly not bad. There are plenty of metered spaced surrounding the restaurant, and there is a pay lot across the street on Spring. The street corner is a little sketchy, and it is not very well-lit, so just be aware of your surroundings at night.

I came here for breakfast because the menu looked good and surprisingly inexpensive. I got two of their biscuit sandwiches and the bill came to ~$ 9.00. The first one had fried chicken, arugula, pickles, and some kind of sauce. The biscuit was freshly made and terrific.(While it didn’t have that Popeye’s biscuit quality I love, I’m beginning to realize that that standard is way too high.) The fried chicken was perfectly cooked and crispy on the outside. The other was more basic, with really good scrambled eggs, bacon pieces, avocado slices and cheese. This one also tasted very good and the avocado was perfectly ripe and buttery. My favorite thing about this place is probably just the look of it. Downstairs has kind of a small café feel to it with a nice outdoor terraced patio. Then there is an entire upstairs dining room complete with a bar. The design is really interesting and well done all around. I am hopefully going to come back soon and try this place for dinner!

**Review is only for their Breakfast Menu** The beau and I are big coffee fans and are always looking to hit up new spots for a good cup of joe. My friends told me about The Parish and their amazing $ 4 breakfast biscuits so I stopped in the following Sunday morning. The location is amazing — sitting inside feels like the outside since there are only windows. The upstairs is only open for dinner unfortunatley, but we made ourselves comfortable on their outside patio. The staff is just wonderful, so cheerful & helpful. There is definitely no rush here, a great place to kick back and relax. The biscuits aren’t anything too crazy amazing, but still good. They have different breakfast biscuit sandwiches or just plain biscuits with homemade jam. They have regular drip &/or «pour over» coffee. I honestly preferred the drip vs. pour over, but thats just me. I’ll be back for dinner one of these days — they even let the pooches hang out with you in the patio area :)

Just for the bar. Came in after dinner. It was a few minutes before the last call, so a friend and I just grabbed a drink and sat outside patio on the second floor. I enjoy watching the mixologist concoct a drink that might just blow your skirt up. Christmas lights are in place, so it reminded me of being in NYC in the Winter. Sitting outside enjoy that«Queen Anne’s Revenge,» felt perfect. The drink definitely blew my shirt up, if I was wearing a skirt, it would have. It was actually too strong for me. :T I really think this place has great potential. I’m looking forward to trying the brunch and or dinner menu.

I heard good things about this place, and finally had dinner here one night with my boyfriend. The location(on a pointy corner) and décor of the restaurant are really nice. We were seated on the 2nd floor in a corner right next to a window. The leather seats and pillows were cute and comfy. My boyfriend and I tried the Deviled Eggs, Poutine of Crispy Pork Shoulder, and Mojama. The Deviled Eggs were delicious, but I’ve gone to other places with deviled eggs that tasted better(and also cost less). The Mojama came with a fried duck egg, truffle, and potatoes. I liked this dish, but I expected more from it – it seemed like they cut back on the truffle and overall, the dish was lacking a bit of flavor. The poutine was my favorite dish of the night. The pork shoulder was crispy and tasty. Even though the fries were drenched in the savory sauce, they didn’t get too soggy and tasted good. I liked the service here. The entire staff was friendly and the food came out pretty fast. We came here on a Sunday night, so free street parking was easy to find. Overall, the food and service were good, but the prices are kind of steep for the size of each dish. I think I would most likely come back for the ambiance, and I wouldn’t mind coming back to try out other dishes.

I don’t think I have felt so ripped off in a really long time. What a complete letdown! It’s one thing to pay for what you get… but I don’t think I got my $ 60 worth of happiness from their Fried Chicken and two cocktails. I’ll start with the minimal positives. First of all, the ambiance was really great, with two floors of seating – even with outside patios on the first and second floor. When we arrived, we were asked if we had reservations. It seems as if this place gets a lot of reservations, so if you’re coming on the weekend, make sure to do so. The hostess seated us on the second floor near the bar and wall of windows, where we were offered a small view of the street. The décor is really nice and a great setting to have a first date. Just be prepared to spend, especially if your date is a drinker or an alcoholic… I was disappointed in the fact that the food menu and cocktail menu was so limited. I actually flipped the menu over to see if I was missing anything in the back… guess not. I actually wish I had walked out of there after seeing their menu and their prices. But I really wanted to see what the hype was about with this place. The servers were really nice and the employees including the bartenders seemed to pay a lot of attention to detail and provided great service. The food, drinks, and prices just didn’t do it for me. The Fried Chicken was juicy and really greasey… I really didn’t understand what the hype was all about for this, when there’s so many other places with better chicken.($ 25) For drinks we ordered the Night Shift($ 13) and a vodka tonic($ 14)… What I really didn’t understand was why one of their signature cocktails would cost less than my well vodka tonic… I really don’t get it. That actually made me really upset. Because of that, I don’t think I’ll ever come back here. I’m going to make sure I stay far far away from here.

Had I heard of Casey Lane? Yes. Had I been to The Tasting Kitchen? No. What made me want to try The Parish? Location, it’s a Gastropub, and his favorite restaurant is Son of a Gun. We have something in common. I’m already his fan now. Here’s what we had. Fried Olives and Chickpeas-Interesting and kind of addicting. Grilled Corn w/Honeycomb Butter-Although this one was delicious, I wouldn’t recommend this if you’re on a date. It’s corn on the cob and leaves you wishing you had a stash of dental floss with you. Poutine of Crispy Pork Shoulder-This one reminded us of Carnitas with a twist. The favorite of the night. Grilled Shrimp w/Cranberry Beans, Roasted Red Peppers w/Green Goddess– Nice char on the shrimp and all of the flavors worked really well together. Burger w/Epoisse Cheese?, Pickled Carrots, & Arugula-My husband didn’t care for this one because the cheese was overwhelmingly sour and the pickled carrots didn’t help. Even with this, my husband is still a fan. They have a small but nice selection of beers and the service is attentive and friendly. We can’t wait to come back to try the rest of the menu.

When you combine the talents of Chef Casey Lane(of The Tasting Kitchen) and Bartender/Head Mixologist John Coltharp(formerly of Copa D’Oro, Seven Grand and The Tasting Kitchen), you get one amazing gastropub with equal parts great food and great cocktails. Located at an interesting v-shape intersection where Spring and Main connect with 9th in downtown LA, The Parish is a gorgeous two-story, yet deceptively small space. The ground floor is relatively nondescript, but features an enclosed outdoor seating area and the kitchen. Upstairs is a different story altogether with dark wood, lots of tall windows and dim lighting. The focal point is a beautiful long bar. The tables and seats are varied, from regular chairs and tables to high-top tables and bar stools. There’s also bench seating, plush seats set against round tables and tables and chairs out on the balcony. It gets loud inside, so for a more romantic and/or quiet meal definitely sit outdoors. The craft cocktail and beer menu are impressive, with prices comparable to other DTLA establishments. I was instantly drawn to THENIGHTSHIFT. Served in a tall glass, this iced coffee cocktail was unbelievably good! There’s bourbon, Czech fernet, espresso, pu-erh tea, chocolate syrup and milk. It was chocolatey and creamy, with just the right amount of sweet and alcohol. Someone in our party couldn’t have dairy so I encouraged her to ask if SOYMILK could be used in this drink. Our server checked and it was a thumbs up! I tried a sip to see for myself and yep, it’s good. I polished off another friend’s OLDFASHIONED and they make an excellent one. I hear they use a differently shaped ice cube for every drink… The menu is a mixture of small and large plates. Quite a number of dishes were ordered and I sampled the following: * DEVILEDEGGS — You get two halves. Simple and good. * POUTINEOFFRIEDOYSTERS — Excellent all-around. The fries and fried oysters were crunchy and not too greasy. And the gravy was not overly rich. * HARICOTSVERTS — Seasoned with garam masala and comes with grilled wedges of juicy peach and a big dollop of creamy burrata. The peaches were my favorite part. * WINGS — These chicken wings were grilled with a black mild glaze. The meat was juicy and the glaze was smoky and sweet. Comes with three and you’ll wish there were more. Must get these! * GRILLEDCORN — You get two halves(I think with this one they should throw in a couple more… it’s so hard to share). Comes with creamy honeycomb butter. * CELERYROOTMASH — This one was surprising. I’m not much of a fan of mashed potatoes, but this celery root mash topped with harissa butter was good! * DAALMAHKANI — This didn’t stand out for me. I’d pass in favor of other items. Comes with some chutney toast. * BUTTERMILKFRIEDCHICKEN — One of two large plates I tried. I think there were 3 – 4 large pieces of chicken. Here’s the thing… I enjoyed the juicy meat and while the batter was super-crunchy and not greasy, it didn’t seem seasoned so it just kind of disappointed me. There were grilled peaches(again, I liked this part the most), tomatoes and a currant vinaigrette. * GRILLEDRIBEYE — The other large plate I tried and I liked this one much more. On this night, it came with warm caramelized figs and a chimichurri sauce. * STICKYTOFFEEPUDDING — The toffee bread pudding came topped with vanilla ice cream and wedges of plum. Both desserts we ordered were good. The other one edged out this one for me personally because I prefer blueberries over toffee. * BLUEBERRY&LEMONTRIFLE — I thought it would be on the heavy side, but it tasted so light! The lemon cream was delightful. The Parish easily accommodated our party of 12 on the second floor. Service was fantastic! Very warm and attentive. Any questions we had were answered and our glasses were never empty. Never would’ve known this place was so new!

This is somewhere between a 4 and 5 star review. More along the 4.5, but I’m going to lean towards the 5 for Unilocal’s sake, and because anything downtown deserves bonus points. This place continues the recent trend of small plates, fresh ingredients, and really upping that quality factor that has been popping up all over the downtown area. Emphasis on quality cocktails and pairing food to go along these drinks definitely add a bit of a twist to the downtown scene. Up till this point, we’re mainly talking about places with great food and good drinks or places with really great drinks but not much on food– this kind marries the two together for one great dining experience. Don’t let the bright narrow(and somewhat empty) interior of the first floor entrance fool you. It’s more of a café /coffee shop feel, but the real magic happens upstairs where you are lead to a much darker and dim light area. The rustic classic vintage look really brings you to a place that almost helps you forget that you are on the edge of downtown. The sweet against the savory seems to be the theme here. You’ll see this play out with the sherry gelee that lays over the chicken liver mouse, or the deep fried onion rings that they serve to pair with that(and yes I did just say that). That theme is played again when the wood roasted bone marrow(served with a celery salad) is served with a shot of sherry. And yes that sounded confusing, but think of the vodka ice luge you enjoyed in college; and replace the luge with the bone, and replace the vodka with sherry flushing out the rest of the remaining fatty bits. Our server(who did a wonderful job), highly recommended the fried chicken to us and while I was a bit skeptical, we ordered it anyways. I get skeptical about that because while technique can make fried chicken better, in the end, I think I can enjoy it just as well at Roscoe’s if you get my drift. However– I’ll say that the fried chicken was dang freakin’ good! Super tender, not overly steaming hot water hot, and that crust was marvelous. There was just enough seasoning there, and not too much to take away from the essence of fried chicken. Also, the accompaniments were fantastic. The cherry tomatoes bursted with such incredible sweetness, and the roasted corn on the cob with the honey glaze really just popped and contrasted so well with the chicken. Cannot emphasize enough the quality of the cocktails here. Excellent balance, wonderful attention to details, and knowledgeable staff. If you can see my pictures, pay attention to how giant that ice cube is in Queen Anne’s Revenge, and how the lime zest is placed on top so it brings that aroma right up to your nose. Almost artistic! To summarize, a really wonderful addition the the downtown LA area. Definitely hope to come back and try more of their food(and cocktails). The service is nice, and the décor is just perfect for good conversation. Might be a good spot to get that awesome cocktail on the weekends if you don’t feel like fussing with the crowds… I’ll have to return and see!
