Rita did a GREAT job on my hair. I hadn’t had a cut in way too long, and even my previous cuts had been cheapo trims, so I wanted something a little more drastic. Rita helped take pictures I liked and make them work for my face and I absolutely love my new ‘do. Also it was very reasonably priced for the quality of the service. I’ll definitely be recommending and returning to The Establishment. Thanks so much, Rita!

This is my second Unilocal review ever. I usually hate this stuff, but it’s worth knowing where you can get a good reasonably priced cut, color and style in this town. I have been many times and gone to a few different stylists and have always been pleased. Cut, color, style, everyone there knows what they are doing.
Shout out to Rita who recently cut my hair. I haven’t received this many compliments since I chopped it all off 5 years ago. She is quick and knows what she is doing. I am extremely particular about what I want and she killed it. I love the way I look and she managed to cut my bangs in a way that I can wear them to the side and in front (she also gave me a destress hand lotion sample, I’m in love)
Oh, and they take the KCRW fringe benefits card which makes me oh so happy.
Thanks to everyone who makes this one of my favorite local businesses in town.

Two syllables… RITA!
Made an appointment online for a cut and blow dry. Mind you, it had been a year since I last cut my hair and I was looking for a change. I have serious trust issues and Rita is such a saving grace. As soon as I sat in the chair I let her know that I trust her judgement and that I want a cut that not only will compliment my face shape but will match my hair type — I have a lot of hair but its thin and the longer it gets, the more weighed down it becomes. She recommended a lob and it was the best decision I’ve made in a while! I can’t tell you how many compliments I’ve received in the past two weeks. The cut was pretty affordable too below the $ 100 range. On a side note, not only is she a fabulous hair stylist, she’s so down to earth and just a pleasure to be around. Can’t wait to see her in 8 – 12 weeks for up-​keep!

So far I’ve been to The Establishment for a facial, wedding makeup (both with Shanda) and a haircut (with color consult) with Adriana. I can officially say this is my salon now. I love the vibe, the smell of Aveda products (basically heaven) and the quality of service! I let Adriana take the reigns on my hair, I’m not good at decisions like that, and she gave me a totally cute cropped look that I wouldn’t have thought of. She showed me the best and easiest ways to style it (because I’m lazy and can’t stand spending more than 5 minutes on it) and I walked out feeling fresh and cute! My cut was $ 60 which seemed like a perfectly reasonable price. When my split ends come rolling back into town, I know where I’m stopping first.

If you want the best haircut of your life, it’s actually really easy and only requires one step.
You go see Preston.
Preston is the best hair stylist. He understands trends and his work is perfection. In 45 minutes I got a mind-​blowing shampoo, a super cute and on-​trend hair cut that flattered my face shape and color and had the perfect it-​girl waves to top it off. 45 minutes I was out the door. He’s incredible. I can’t say enough nice things about him.
The Establishment is a super cute salon with good parking in the back. Loved the feel and vibe of the salon and everyone working. Will definitely be back.

I went in for a trim and asked for the best person to cut my long and very loved hair. Adriana was my stylist and the second I saw her: her style, her hair, her warmth, I knew I could trust her judgment. I sat in her chair, asked her what her ideal cut for me would be and when she said it I said «ok, Im going to close my eyes, have at it.» Now I understand most women think Im nuts for doing this but my hair turned out absolutely beautiful. She took off ten inches and sculpted the most beautiful Long Bob (Lob) with sharp edges that when texturing cream is added looks super cute. It feels healthy and wonderful. To add to her completely fantastic skill she also took time while washing my hair to do a peppermint aromatherapy on my temples which helped de-​stress me from the day.
All in all she is absolutely fantastic, and this is coming from someone who hasn’t been to a new hair dresser in ten years!!! Thank you Adriana! I’ll be back for color:)

Adriana is the best! I told her what my vision was for my color and she nailed it! The color came out exactly how I wanted it. She was extremely friendly and funny. Then she cut my hair into a long bob that came out amazing. She really took her time with it and cut it according to how my hair would react. I love my new look and would 100% recommend her to all my friends.
She hasn’t been working there long but don’t let that fool you she is a professional who knows exactly what she is doing.

Love The Establishment. Let me explain:
I just moved back to LA and was dreading the search for a new hair stylist– one that just understood what was going on with my coif. More specifically I have a perm, so I pretty much figured it would take a few trial and errors with various salons/​stylists in town before finding one that would understand: a) why I would even have a perm (FYI — it’s because they’re awesome) and b) how to manage and maintain one. I’ve always been an Aveda salon goer, so after some online searching I found the first one I was going to give a shot during my search for a new stylist called The Establishment. More importantly I happened to be booked with one of their stylists named Stefano.
As soon as I sat in his chair, I forewarned him stating, «I should let you know that this is a perm…» while crossing my fingers in hopes that he wouldn’t freak out. Unexpectedly it turned out that he was excited about the fact that I had a perm and just got me. He knew exactly what would and wouldn’t work with my hair, knew exactly what this look was about, and knew exactly what I was going for. Additionally, he knew immediately how to cut and manage it, which are obviously two key things you need when finding «your» stylist.
Needless to say, I somehow hit the bullseye with my first salon visit since I’ve moved back to LA. I’m happy I stumbled across The Establishment and was paired up with Stefano. (In fact, I already booked myself 2 months in advance with him.)
Overall: great salon, awesome service, cool people.

I’ve only been there once so far, got my brows done and I liked it. I’ll go again!

Snagged one of two dedicated spaces in the lot behind the salon. Was welcomed when I can in, though the girls behind the counter seemed more interested in chatting with one another than acknowledging customers. This is a minor oversight, but I wasn’t offered anything to drink, although people waiting alongside me were? Not major, but felt a little odd.
I saw Jen who I give five stars — knowledgable, realistic about my hair type, gave good advice and got me the look I was going for. Their site talks about different stylists’ specialties — her focus was wavy or curly hair and she definitely understood my hair’s characteristics. Less expensive than many places, and great quality cuts! Also has the awesome Aveda products, head massage, etc.
I took off one star for front desk and limited parking, but will definitely come again and recommend to friends in terms of the actual service provided!

I have wavy, curly hair that NO ONE has ever been able to cut before besides Rita at The Establishment. She is truly gifted — an artist. I’ve gone from having to tote bobby pins and elastics around and having ZERO hair style to goddess hair every day because of her.
However, this salon needs to handle its phone system. The phone rings and rings AND THEN HANGS UP ON YOU. This past April, I just gave up. Went to another studio and paid for a subpar cut. Two of my friends who got cuts and color here — won’t go back — it’s like there is no way to get in touch with them! (Although today — I did see you can sign up for an appointment online after putting in all your personal info –fine — but after being hung up on again this morning — I was over it.)
This is a great, friendly, clean salon filled with talented people but they continue to ignore a known and reported problem and I feel like I might go by the way of my friends and just quit as well.

HASSLE OF TRYING TO GET MY HAIR CUT HERE: 0 STARS

Got an awful bangcut from adriana who did a hack job and started dry cutting my bangs and letting SO MUCH hair fall into my eyes. The end product was so uneven and choppy, I asked the receptionist if it could be fixed. Rita was sent to fix my hair and she was very cautious and did her best to fix it.
However, before my second appointment, the receptionist upon seeing Rita, (thinking that I wasn’t there yet) said loudly,‘oh, thats the girl that complained,’ and made a face. Rita could see that I was there and tried to be professional but the damage is done. TELL your receptionist to have some respect and be professional.
I came for another bang trim a second time with Rita — it costed me 17 $, which is way more than the menu price. I also was unhappy with the cut, I don’t know if it’s a certain style, but rather than evenly layering the bangs, she cut layers by vertically snipping at the bottom of my bangs, something I could easily do myself. Won’t be returning.

I did a lot of research before deciding to try this place but my conclusion is Unilocal does not always get it right.
Went in for a consultation before I booked my appointment and was quoted a price of 100 bucks for roots and toner treatment.
Went in on the day of my appointment and I was not ecstatic with the results like the other Unilocalers but I thought to myself it could be worse. Then on checking out the front desk person said 130 !! I told her I was quoted 100, then she said the blow dry was 30 bucks !
No one asked me if I wanted a blow dry with my color ?! Because if I knew I had an option I would have done my color there and then run off to my girlfriend who does amazing blow outs for me at 20 bucks.
I’ve never been to a salon where the quote of a color did not include a blow dry with it. Or at least they needed to mention it at the consultation or on the day of my appointment.
I felt like I was intentionally misinformed to get my business.

this salon is about a block from my apartment. I walk by everyday. I was seriously hurting for a haircut, it had been over a year and it would be dumb af to go anywhere else. My life clearly revolves around convenience.
I made an appointment on their online system (my FAVORITE way to book appointments or order food. as little human interaction as possible, please). I got my haircut by Jess. She was very friendly and did a good job, my hair be looking’ healthy again.
It’s not too expensive (100 bucks cheaper than ramirez tran. too poor for that sh*t), and homegirl didn’t try to shove products down my throat for me to buy, which I appreciate.

Love love love the Establishment! I came here because a few different friends recommended it. Rita cuts my hair and she is amazing! I’ve been growing out a side-​shave and she has expertly trimmed and shaped it into an adorable bob!
She’s very knowledgeable!
The entire staff is great! They are all very friendly and accommodating.

Having had one very mediocre haircut, one absolutely tear jerkingly terrible haircut and a lackluster color job I have a lot to gripe about this salon. Let me say first that my first visit was just «ok» but nothing really bad, which is why I gave this salon and a different stylist a second chance although in hindsight I should have let this place go at the three star cut.
My second visit I went for a cut and color, I went in and explained that I was really unhappy with my then current color and wanted to go more towards a golden strawberry blonde (I’m blonde naturally so this shouldn’t have been a drastic change). I also said I wanted bangs and was very specific about what type of bangs I wanted. It seems that my stylist just didn’t pay any attention to what I asked for.
The color: my stylist convinced me that instead of an all over color change that I would get my desired look with partial high lights and a toner. I decided to go with her supposed hair wisdom and we proceeded to do just that. I ended up with very amateur highlights (there was about half an inch of root color left on all of them) in a strange almost grey ash blonde and the toner did absolutely nothing at all. So basically I paid full price for a color correction but only ended up with partial highlights, no one I know could even tell I had had my hair colored. Not at all what I asked for.
The cut: just bad, once again my stylist just plain didn’t listen. The bangs I got far exceeded the width I had asked for and were an uneven choppy mess. (Think 80’s men’s bangs al a the ramones) I literally cried when I got home with my hair still dripping wet (they charge to blow dry and at that point I just wanted out).
To rub salt in the metaphorical wound I contacted the owner via an email and never got a response.
Bad color, terrible cut, rude service. Almost $ 200 down the drain.

My favorite stylist Jess was recently hired here, because she is so great at doing my hair… I will follow her practically anywhere.
The moment you walk into the place you will feel very relaxed with the open floor plan and lighting. The complimentary french press coffee is a brew exclusive to the salon… And it was delicious!
Every single staff member was extremely attentive and friendly, and of course my hair turned out amazing. For a mens cut they include a Shampoo/​Conditioner and styling. A lot of times for mens cuts they hose you down with a spray bottle, and kick you out the door in 30 minutes or less. I really like how the place is structured and I don’t ever feel like my stylist is being rushed to complete my hair at all.
5 stars all around!

After so much thought, I finally decided to dye my hair for the first time. And of course, I couldn’t have chosen a better place than The Establishment! I chose Jennifer Sarchet, based on her experience and what I wanted to get done. *Note — if you go on their website, they offer bios of all their stylists and their top 3 services. This is how I picked Jennifer :) *
I decided on something not too drastic — balayage. My hair is naturally dark brown and I wanted to try something different, but not dye my hair in its entirety. I came in for a consultation three weeks prior (this was my choice/​decision; you can definitely schedule something sooner) with Jennifer and showed her my ideas. She was very understanding to my constant change of ideas and hesitation, since it was my first time.
Flashfoward to yesterday. I came in 6 minutes late (sorry!) due to a missed exit on the fwy. Jennifer and The Establishment were very understanding. The whole time I was getting my hair done, I had a great conversation with Jennifer. She was kind and was guiding me through everything she was doing to my hair. From the complimentary water, to the hair massage, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience.
Thank you Jennifer for my wonderful new look and I will definitely be coming in here more often!
