I noticed this place on the way home one day and decided to have brunch with my friends there. I will say their Iced Coffee was delicious. Overall all meal and experience was just ok. There was a kid working there with blue hair that kept touching his hair, face and nose and that grossed me out. There was only one other table there same time as us and they got the orders mixed up. There was at least 5 people working and that may have been too many as no one seemed to be in charge of getting things done correctly. Neither myself nor my friends will be back.

This looks like a place I would really like, but my first experience there this past Sunday was disappointing. Went for brunch and was deciding between the Chicken Pot Pie and the Italian Breakfast Bread Pudding. I chose the latter because it sounds super unique — the presentation was interesting, but the bread pudding was dry, plain, and lackluster. I think the idea of it was much better than the actual dish. So my food took a while to come out… but my friend’s breakfast sandwich took significantly even longer. A couple that sat down after us got their sandwiches etc rather quickly. He eventually asked about it, and we were told that they are short staffed. Which doesn’t really explain much of anything, because I got my food, and the couple got their food… why was it just his breakfast sandwich that took so long? Especially when it looks like it requires the least preparation to be honest. Several different people did come up to us after we got the sandwich to ask how everything was, but that didn’t minimize the confusion. It was Father’s Day, and a Sunday, but there were plenty of seating available. There’s a sign posted that states to order at the counter, but we were told that we could sit at the bar as well and order there, which is nice.

Normally I am not the type of guy that write reviews but the meal and service was so bad I have to express it here. Ordered the steak frites, had it the 3rd time now so I know what it’s like. Got a tiny, thin, dry pieces of steak, told the waiter how I felt and he was like, «is there a problem sir? «what kinda response is this? ? My friend got the green goddess salad, dry and blend. Paid $ 1.50 for extra avocado but only got 3 slices !! Plus the waiter spilt the meat juice of my steak on his pant! I ate my steak because I was extremely hungry! But my friend only had a few bites of his salad. I ate a few bites of his too as I was still hungry since the steak was so tiny! :-) We wanted to like this place so much as we eat out all the times but most prabably will not go back again. Thx for an awful and unforgettable Father’s day brunch! !

My review is currently based on take-out only. A few things to mention: A. The staff that assisted me seemed kind of out of it. I walked in and immediately took a menu and a little asian woman who was behind the counter seemed scared of me, I didn’t really even get a greeting or anything. I’m a heavier guy by I don’t think I’m that intimidating. B. I decided to take out instead of eat in mainly because the parking right out front is only 30 minutes maximum. That seriously stinks as I would have loved to eat in here. C. I got a cold brew bottle to go, while their door signs advertise that they are an exclusive seller of one type of cold brew, in their fridge toward the back they seem to have at least two different types of cold brews to go, I found this kind of odd. If you want to showcase your cold brew, you should only sell one. D. The guy who ended up helping me cash out seemed a bit spacy/out of it. He didn’t give me a rustic vibe but more of a stoner vibe(no offense meant to him) he may have just been tired. Anyways he rang me up and it took him 10 minutes to ring up 3 things. E. I got a cold brew, a fro-nut, and a small cheesecake slice and somehow my bill came to $ 18.00, seems a bit steps for three things. One very good thing I want to emphasis here is there menu looks absolutely amazing. Everything on it looks drool worthy. So I’ll be back for sit down service eventually, if I can find parking longer than 30 minutes.

So here’s the thing… I like food in general but prefer good food. This was not just good food, this was exceptionally good food. The appetizer we started with was Avocado Fries — a crispy breaded outer crust with a buttery soft avocado explosion of flavor dipped gently in sriracha mayo dip… sublime. The daily special I had was the grilled corn with queso fresco, lime juice & smoked paprika — so good. My entrée was the signature Veal sliders with an exquisite marinara sauce and provolone on a feather-light brioche bun — heaven. Served in an environment that’s warm, inviting, friendly and with an air of sophistication that speaks to the chef’s food prowess. The prices could be higher and still be fair. This is not just a place I’ll be returning to, it’ll be a place I recommend — often.

As an Old Skool Mar Vistian(yes, I just invented that word), I’m so thrilled that this restaurant exists! Food was delicious, love the industrial yet still friendly décor, and staff was on point! I also got to meet the chef and I want her to be my bestie. Don’t miss the chicken curry sandwich or any of the Sunday brunch items. I’ve been too busy lately for a return visit so I gotta clear my schedule ASAP. PS: When I was there, the liquor license had not been approved yet but they have a very welcoming BYOB policy. That may have changed by now so check with the restaurant directly.

Wow. The Cobb salad was not only huge, but delicious. I swapped blue cheese out for toasted pistachios with no issue. The format is order at the counter and they bring your order to the table. Service was great, seating was not an issue. The menu features super tasty comfort food. And they definitely deliver. Oh and free parking in back! Great service, easy, convenient and delicious. I’ll be back.

I drive by this place every day on my way to work and I’ve always wanted to give it a try. Well today I finally did and I regret not doing it sooner! Food was great and it was really fast too. We got back to the office in less than an hour from when we left. I love efficiency, especially for lunch during work hours. There are so many things on the menu that I want to try, I’ll have to come back. First of all, its pretty much self service here. Water, cups, napkins, utensils etc are all on a little station by the cash register. We didn’t realize this at first and asked a worker for some water. Dur, it was right there for us to get ourselves. The menu that’s written above the counter is not comprehensive, there’s additional items on little signs as well as the specials for the day. You order at the counter, find a seat and they bring your food to you. I got the grilled cheese, it comes with cheese, pears and caramelized onions. I added a little sriracha and it was mm mm good. I also got the side salad, nothing special, just like spring mix with balsamic dressing. The guy at the cash register recommended the short rib panini and the curried chicken salad as the most popular dishes. Apparently they’re also known for their mac and cheese, which is something I want to try. The dessert options looked delectable too, must give those a try sometime too! The ambiance is really cute. There’s a tiny little market inside(i mean its called Rustic Kitchen Café and MARKET) and there’s a bunch of tables and chairs to sit at. They had the windows open so it was almost like we were half outside. There’s also some limited outdoor seating.

Had a great breakfast in the patio. Not only was the entire place clean and adorable but the staff actually was nice, happy and attentive. The food was delicious and I’m a picky pancake eater. My boyfriends breakfast was done just as he asked and he loved it. They brought a little bowl of water for my dog without me asking and gave him attention too. Great experience and I can’t wait to try something new in my new fav neighborhood café.

Came here for lunch first time, it was«ok»… has potential. I’m writing this review with high hopes that they improve, mainly the flavor. Ordered fish and chips, both were flavorless, had to pour tons of dressing, vinegar, lemon. Second thoughts, none had salt. As for service, everyone was friendly, the food came out fast…(maybe I had a new server?) but they can do a better job bringing typical condiments for food, not one having to ask for every single thing(ketchup/malt vinegar/salt). As a first comer, would be nice to have a visible sign telling one to order at the(not immediately visible) counter. I appreciate the small market goods for sale and selection of cheeses. Also the glass water bottles available. Will come again later, hoping to have an extraordinary experience.

Worth a try. Had the chicken sliders and a bahn mi. The chicken sliders were great! The chicken was perfectly cooked and crispy without being dry on the inside and I thought the slaw and sauce they used for them was excellent. I would put a little more dressing on them since they were a bit on the drier side because of the bread but it really wouldn’t stop me from ordering them again. The real winner here is the chicken. The Bahn Mi… Well I feel like it’s my fault for ordering a bahn me at a place that doesn’t *just* serve vietnamese food but seriously, don’t call it that if you’re not going to give me a bahn mi. It was a roasted pork sandwich with asian slaw. No cilantro, no jalapenos, no carrots. Sorry but if it doesn’t have what makes up a bahn mi it shouldn’t be called that. Enough about the name, the sandwich was fine. So, the meat was over seasoned and salty — it happens — but I can get past that since the flavor was ok. Ultimately, I think i’d come here again if I wanted to spend like $ 20 on lunch.

I love this place. I live right down the street, so o swing through for lunch or dinner every week or two. The food is always amazing and the employees are very helpful and polite. One of the rings that’s really cool about this place is that they have a kind of local market set up going. There are tables with local products for sale, along with artisanal food stuffs like organic maple syrup and olive oil. Very cool. A word of caution: this might not be the best place if you are in a rush. The kitchen consists of two people, so food orders can take a little while. That being said, it is always great. Today I had the VB Burger, which came with smoked Gouda, bacon, avocado, and fries. So tasty. I’d also recommend the Braised Short Rib or any of the Mac ‘n Cheese options, as they are all winners. If you have some time, this is your spot for brunch, lunch or dinner. Big hit with the locals, so give it a shot.

Review based on take-out orders. I like the ambiance and the staff was very friendly. The food was good, but nothing so special to justify the prices. I ordered the chicken pot pie and the Nutella pie. CHICKENPOTPIE: TINY and not worth the $ 12.00 I paid for it. It was good and had big chunks of meat and veggies, but the container it came in was about 3 in x 4 in, if not even that. It was not filling and devoured in minutes. NUTELLAPIE: creamy and delcious. It is really choclatey. If you’re not the type that likes overly sweet desserts, this is definitely NOT for you. In my opinion, I think the $ 6.00 I paid for this was much more worth it than the pot pie.

First time there, when you walk in it is brand-new, clean and shiny. You order at the counter and the staff brings the food to you. The paninis were very good, a lot of flavor and they use real carved Turkey. The Mac and cheese on the other hand was not so great. Five of us ordered sides and we all said the same thing, that something was missing or a little off. My sandwich and a sparkling soda was 15.50, a little on the pricey side considering nothing came with it. Next time I will try one of their salads

I was searching for a good dinner spot last night, and came upon this new addition to the Mar Vista neighborhood. My search criteria was«cheese» and«cake» because the boyfriend craved quesadillas and I wanted cake. We got here close to closing, so we decided to get our order to go: the RK burger, pork bahnmi, and carrot cake. Unfortunately they were out of pork, but offered to make me something else off the menu, I went with the braised short rib panini. Our food was brought out shortly after their closing time, there was still another patron in the café and they didn’t seem rushed to eat and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food: that sandwich was amazing. The menu says it has horseradish, arugula, and smoked gouda, but I tasted brie instead of gouda, which made it better. There were also pickled onions in my sandwich. The horseradish and pickled onions cut through the richness of the cheese and short rib, and since I’ve been recovering from a cold, also opened my sinuses so I could taste the food better. 5⁄5 Boyfriend said the burger was a decent burger. Fries were fine, though some got a bit limp in transit but that’s just a side effect of to-go orders. Carrot cake was great, most and soft, frosting was not too sweet, balanced out cake well. I could not finish it because it was a big slice, and it was still delicious the next day. All in all, a great new café in the area. I will be excited to revisit and try the pork bahnmi another day, as well as the pot pies.

So disappointed in the fried green tomato sandwich. The bread was good, but their were only two thin slices of tomato on the whole sandwich. TWO! I should have sent it back. There was more aioli then tomato! And there was no crust/crunch to the fried tomato… really so disappointing. I’m spending some $$ on this sandwich, I want to at least get a decent portion… and I’m a petite woman! The Kung Pao Brussel Sprouts on the other hand, were quite Delish, and the green goddess salad was fresh, the dressing was a tad bland(I added salt and pepper), but it was decent. The atmosphere is nice, and they offer a wide variety of interesting drinks in their drink case. Our server was very nice, and attentive. I hope they open for breakfast, the neighborhood could use it.

Honestly, it was underwhelming and disappointing, which is unfortunate because I really wanted to like this new neighborhood spot. Maybe we got the wrong things when we went there, but honestly, if you’re a restaurant, should there be any«wrong things» on your menu? If you want a quick run-down, here are the bullet points, but keep reading if you want the details: — Lackluster Fried Green Tomato Sandwich. Flavorless aioli. Untoasted bread. — RK Skinny Fries: I’m pretty sure they use frozen, mass-produced fries. They look and taste like Burger King fries with a dash of paprika on top — but they charge you $ 8 for them. They’re also not what I consider to be a «skinny fry» — they’re normal-sized(like what you get at fast food places). –RK burger: They cook them well done. Patty was flavorful enough, but it’s nothing to write home about, especially for $ 12. Just go to Father’s Office if you want a quality burger with blue cheese and caramelized onions. –Crispy Cauliflower: Not crispy. Reminiscent of Shake & Bake coating. Incredibly underseasoned. If you’re craving crispy buffalo cauliflower, just go to Public School in downtown Culver City. Theirs is crisp, their dipping sauce actually has flavor, and it’s cheaper than Rustic Kitchen’s lackluster version. — They just opened, though, and I do think it’s possible for a place to improve, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed, but ultimately, after my experience with the lackluster food, it just doesn’t give me a huge incentive to keep coming back, when there are so many other great options in the area. The Fried Green Tomato sandwich comes on sourdough with«bac’n aioli». The tomatoes were fresh enough, but the crust/coating wasn’t all that crisp. The bread was room temp and untoasted, and I honestly didn’t get any semblance of «bac’n aioli.» I could tell there was a bit of sauce, but it was honestly flavorless. I know it’s supposed to be a simple sandwich, but I just think the execution needs work. The aioli needs to be kicked up so there’s more flavor to the sandwich — add more bacon? Add some sundried tomatoes? Garlic? Just something so cut through and add to the bread + tomato flavor. I also think the bread should be toasted. Even slap it on the griddle for a minute, just to warm it up. The RK Skinny fries were another disappointment. I’m pretty sure they used frozen fries here. They look like fries from Burger King with some paprika sprinkled on top. Sorry, but just because you slap some pretty paprika on mass-produced fries, doesn’t mean you can charge $ 8 for a bowl of them. Have you had the skinny fries from places like Father’s Office? That’s the real deal, and those fries are *actually* skinny. The aioli dipping sauce from Father’s Office is on point(I would have loved some of that on my fried green tomato sandwich, actually.) Father’s Office makes their fries in-house. They’re addicting, delicious. And it’s only $ 5 for a big pile of them. Again, fries should be simple, but if you’re going to put fries on your menu that are just on par with Burger King or Carl’s Jr., don’t bother putting them on your menu. And don’t make them $ 8. The Crispy Cauliflower were another mediocre offering. They were simply not crispy, and lacked seasoning. I think they may have forgotten to add salt. If you’re craving crispy buffalo cauliflower, just go to Public School in downtown Culver City. Public School’s is crisp, their dipping sauce actually has flavor, and it’s cheaper than Rustic Kitchen’s lackluster version. And the rest of their menu is actually on point(unlike RK). Lastly, the RK Burger. I suppose it was the least disappointing of the bunch. They don’t ask you how you like your burger cooked. And they cook them well done. Even so, the burger patty itself was flavorful enough. Decent burger, but nothing to write home about, and honestly not worth the $ 12 they charge for it. I hate to compare, but as a consumer, you kind of have to. If you’re looking for a burger with blue cheese and caramelized onions, the $ 12 burger at Father’s Office just a couple miles away honestly takes the cake as far as quality goes. You get twice the amount too. So honestly, if I had to choose where I’m spending my money for this kind of burger with fries, I’m sure you can guess where I’ll go. I think this place needs to do its research, see what it’s competition is doing, and put in a bit more effort if it wants to keep locals like me coming back. There are too many fantastic restaurants nearby, serving quality food at great prices. Because frankly, if I want to spend $ 25+ per person on my dinner(not including drinks), I’m not going to want to spend it here.

Rustic Kitchen is a great neighborhood spot for a delicious bite to eat. My boyfriend and I found it on Unilocal and decided to check it out, as it’s just up the street from my apartment. Was greeted with a warm welcome and a super friendly staff. They had a few vegetarian options for me and plenty of options for my meat eater boyfriend. I got the Mac n Cheese and the Califlower. He got the veal meatball sliders and the Brussel Sprouts. Everything was really good, especially the Brussel Sprouts. I would have preferred a different dipping sauce for the Califlower and definitely a larger portion of the Mac n Cheese. They also serve Groundworks Coffee which is awesome. I gave this place 4 stars because it’s a bit pricey for what you get and the place is kind of small inside. My boyfriend is in a wheelchair and it was slightly difficult for him to move around. Would definitely go here again to try some of the other menu options.

Walked over to this new spot. Had the braised short rib sandwich and wife had the Oven Roast Turkey. Both excellent. The short rib was tender and full of flavor. Wife’s turkey was equally delicious. For dessert, we tried their blueberry and white chocolate bread pudding. Made right there, served hot. Excellent. The staff are friendly, courteous, and professional. Spoke with the owner a bit. They are still in the process of getting their liquor license but there is no corkage fee. They have a little outdoor patio area which we didn’t try. All their ingredients seem fresh, everything we ate prepared great. Highly recommended.

Decided to try out this new spot on Centinela. Great neighborhood café with coffee, gourmet sandwiches, small plates and pastries. Tried the fried chicken sliders and fish-n-chips: Two people for $ 26. Sliders were tasty. Fries were nothing to write home about(Sysco). Fish was par. Sauce was house made. The«market» portion seems to be a work-in-progress, limited so some fancy bottled drinks and snacks. Although, I did see some locally sourced items for purchase including pickles, cheese and ice cream. Interior was clean and new. Not a ton of parking — there is a small lot in the back and street parking on Centinela and in the hood behind the Café.

Really, really wanted to love this place, but the high prices set a high bar. And, while it’s good, it didn’t seem like a $ 14 burger. I mean, at least include a small bit of greens/fries or something on the side. If the prices were literally a few bucks cheaper and they were more generous with the little things — it’d be 4.5÷5 and probably double the customers. Hoping they make tweaks to the menu as we need more quality joints to stick around in MV.

We’ve waited so long for a casual dining spot walking distance within this corner of Mar Vista! And Rustic Kitchen isn’t disappointing. Especially the rich but perfect banh mi and lobster sandwiches. My only request is to add a little acidic/crunch garnish to the lobster– a small scoop of cole slaw or butter lettuce & radish salad— it’s begging for the contrast to round out the taste treats on the plate. Can’t wait for the wine action to start up! And the tiny sidewalk café area! Looking forward to many more visits.
