GAVE A FIVE STAR (but read below): I felt the need to make a positive review for Dr. Podell because I found the previous reviews skewed. He is not the most conventional doctor, he does talk about his own life sometimes, but in the end, there is purpose in what he does. He helped me out significantly medicinally, hit things right on the mark. His talk therapy is a bit didactic but he makes very strong points, where a normal therapist mainly lets you talk and talk. If you like a more New York approach, not just hearing yourself talk for an hour, this guy is for you. And if you just want a good psychiatrist, prescribing medicine, I would highly recommend. He treats you like a whole human being. He does not just ask your mood, your energy, etc. He finds out about all aspects of your life. I can see he may not be popular with everyone, but he did not deserve the one star rating that he was given before me.

EDIT — LOWERED TO 3 STAR: I have since left Dr. Podell and I wanted to give my view: he does talk too much… about himself. His weakest point is that he did not believe in me. He believes in himself. He is a big time doctor and has seen famous people as his clients, but he didn’t know how to make me feel like the human being I am. I think he is under-​qualified as a therapist and pretty good at psychiatry, though it seems he is a little heavy handed. I am not an expert so honestly I can’t judge. He did keep me relatively stable for the duration of our working together.
Summation: not the best, but someone who might be good for the time being, especially if you are in an emergency.

The worst psychiatrist you can imagine. His treatment of my 92 years old mother was outrageous. Unprofessional, uncaring, insensitive, arrogant. If you are looking out for your health and state of mind, stay far away from this incompetent doctor. In reality, it’s Dr Podell who is in dire need of a good psychiatrist and a heavy dose of meds.

HORRIBLE!!! The $ 500/​hour that he charges should get you a quality doctor, but I would not even see him if he gave away his services for free!
