This humble little barbershop/massage provider may be the best kept secret in downtown LA. For about $ 20, you can get one of the most professional and relaxing 40-minute massages possible. The therapist seems meager, speaks very little English — but KNOWSHISSTUFF. Expect a clothed massage(he even puts an extra covering over you), but he thoroughly identifies and works each and every knot. His back-cracking technique manifests what can only be described as god-given talent. Don’t anticipate a grandiose interior, but you can bank on a GREAT massage at a ridiculously cheap price.

Yup, massage, Yup, 20 bucks, Yup, huge sushi to go from the little grocery store for six bucks, Yup, freaking awesome. I’ve been going to this guy from time to time but just returned from a session and have to say, this is my guy from now on. I can’t really afford to go too often, but for 20 minutes, this guy is the best deal in town. I’ve never had an expensive massage, but have solicited the kiosks in Grand Central Market and Whole Foods. They’re the same price, but this guy is incredible. He asks what you want to have worked on, and takes direction during the massage, very, very peaceful demeanor and really goes all out to make sure your muscles get the ache out. Totally recommended.

Ok, so this is a barber shop. But I’ve been going here for a number of years for the shiatsu massage. It’s excellent and is VERY reasonably priced. To be quite frank, I’ve never tried the barber shop but Tetsuya san(213) 687‑7497 is located inside Matsuda and he gives the best shiatsu massage! I used to go all the way to Gardena to get massages, but that’s no longer necessary. Tetsuya san operates a shiatsu inside this barber shop. He’s absolutely fantastic. He sometimes has assistants, and they are equally good at shiatsu.
